All-Area schedule

I'm not going to give up any secrets, but the All-Area teams for winter sports have been selected, along with a Player (or Wrestler) of the Year and a Coach of the Year in each sport.

Picking the teams, of course, ain't easy. Consider this: Typical all-league teams for basketball include anywhere from eight to 10 players for a six- or seven-team league; the Californian's All-Area team has an MVP plus six spots, and that's for the whole county.

Soccer teams? 12 players, including the MVP, in each sport. Wrestling? One wrestler at each weight class, including the MVW.

So if you felt your favorite team or player was under-represented, consider that it's a very high cut line. Only the very elite can make one of the teams.

Here's the schedule for the teams' releases:

Friday, March 28 — Boys and girls soccer
Saturday, March 29 — Wrestling
Sunday, March 30 — Boys and girls basketball

I always look forward to seeing the all-area selections published, mainly so I can see how many Centennial players get honored for each season.  Hopefully there will be some good selections (not just from Centennial) as there usually are.  Keep up the good work and have a good Easter, Zach.

When will you publish All League results?

All-League teams for all winter sports will be published on Thursday, the day before All-Area releases

Most of the players already know who will be all area since the Californian calls them in to take their pictures.

Nice detective work. For everyone else, though, we do try to keep it hush-hush until the day comes.
