Week 5 HS football running thread and scoreboard

UPDATED, 12:12 a.m.: it was another night of the blowout in Kern County — and I think that might remain the case throughout a lot of the league season, with maybe a close game or two in town and the rest convincing victories. We've got a serious case of the haves and the have-nots. Let's look at some key scores.

Frontier 42, West 7: My first chance to see the Titans, and they were really well-rounded and impressive. Offense rolled, with DeShaunte Webber running for 112 yards and four touchdowns. Defense ruled, with several sacks and a dominating effort from the defensive line. Special teams rocked, with Matt Darr booming punts and even blocking one of West's. This team is for real, and it's clearly a factor in both the SWYL and the section's Division II. At this point, it'll be an upset if Frontier isn't 8-0 heading to Stockdale in four weeks.

Bakersfield 22, Centennial 7: Changing that SWYL landscape in a big way could be the status of Golden Hawks QB Cody Kessler. Kessler turned his ankle late in the first quarter, had it wrapped and did not return. Even after he left, the Hawks took a brief 7-3 lead before the Drillers got on a roll. Bakersfield needed this win in the worst way, and it doesn't matter a bit to them that they didn't get it done against a full-strength Centennial team. The question now is Kessler's health; he's obviously the centerpiece of a strong offense.

Stockdale 63, South 20: So much for keeping the game close until the fourth quarter. Stockdale scored 2:30 minutes into the game, got a turnover and scored again, and then used a long drive to make it 21-0 before the first quarter was up. The Mustangs rolled from there. I've heard the Rebels are a gambling bunch on offense, and if the defense they're facing stays at home and has some athletes, it'll be a long night. Stockdale has a huge game at Liberty next week, and like Patrick319 said below, all of a sudden a lot of signs are pointing towards the Mustangs' Week 9 game with Frontier. That game is Nov. 6 at Stockdale.

East 40, Golden Valley 30: This probably was the most exciting game of the night, and who would have thought we could say this at the end of Week 5: The Blades have a game and a half lead on Bakersfield in the SEYL standings. Obviously, that can and will change, but it's good to see coach Jerald Pierucci's tenure at East off the ground after a tough year and a half.  East is 2-0 atop the SEYL with Liberty and Garces.

Garces 62, Highland 21: Speaking of the Rams, they've now out-scored their first two league opponents 111-21. That's much better than last year, when Garces was pretty formidable and finished third in the league. Can the Rams run with Bakersfield when the Drillers come calling next week? It's suddenly become a very interesting game. An upset for Garces would likely mean the SEYL title would come down to its home game with Liberty in Week 10. But let's worry about next week first.

Delano 33, Porterville-Monache 12: Yes, Tigers fans, your team won again, and it seems to be looking more impressive each week. The inconsistency that plagued Delano last year hasn't shown up, and I think the Tigers clearly are in the Division III championship picture with teams like Tehachapi, Clovis North and possibly Ridgeview or South. A tricky trip to Porterville is next.

I'll take a more complete look at Week 5 in Sunday's Most Important Things.

UPDATED, 11:16 p.m.: Updated some scores below. Weren't a whole lot of close games tonight. Bakersfield gets a much-needed win at Centennial. Frontier rolls, 42-7 was the final. Delano stays undefeated, looking impressive against Porterville-Monache. South does not stay unbeaten, not by a long shot. Stockdale rolls, 63-20 in Rebel-land.
I'll have some more in about an hour when I get away from a few editing duties.

UPDATED, 9:50 p.m.: First final of the night: Stockdale 63, South 20. Less than four minutes remain here, and West was just stopped on fourth down, courtesy Matt Darr. Looking like a 35-7 final. I'm gonna head to the field, but I'll update shortly after I have the story in.
First I'll update: Deshaunte Webber, trying to run the clock out, gets 31 yards to the 1, and then punches it in. He has 112 yards and four touchdowns, so quite a night for the junior. 42-7, 2:30 to go.

UPDATED, 9:40 p.m.: West is trying to make things interesting late here. The Vikings have forced a three-and-out and now are driving again, at the Frontier 40 before a false start pushes them to the 45. And there's a huge penalty on West. Moose Cobb just completed a halfback pass to Taiyon Jackson inside the 15, but it was called back because of holding. It's first-and-28 now, and now Tyler Barnhart sacks Franklin Simmons to make it second-and-34. That's probably going to do it; clock's inside of eight minutes now.
And just for historical perspective, a couple of sacks and another penalty and West has a fourth-and-50 from its own 20. And none other than Matt Darr, who knows a thing or two about punting, blocks the punt at the 5! Frontier is doing it all tonight, and now the Titans can add more. It takes them two plays, with Deshaunte Webber going in for his third touchdown run from 4 yards out. 35-7.
An update from Centennial: Bakersfield has just taken possession with 6:50 to play and the Drillers ahead 19-7. Looks like a much-needed victory for BHS.

UPDATED, 9:24 p.m.: Just got to see Matt Darr drop back to punt for the first time, and he took a bad snap. He showed his athleticism by jumping up to corral the snap, rolling to his left and completing a pass beyond the first-down sticks. Of course, the pass was to an illegible receiver, a lineman. So after a five-yard penalty, Darr punted again, and he unleashed a high, hanging 43-yarder that West had no chance to return. Game has slowed down other than that excitement, and at the end of the third quarter, it's still 28-0.
Meanwhile, at Centennial, I have no new score update, but it sounds like Cody Kessler's injury might be rather serious. He still hasn't returned, and whether that's a precaution or not, it's a cause for major concern for the Golden Hawks — and you can extend that to the basketball program, for which Kessler is a valuable point guard.
West has finally capitalized on a red-zone drive, here, with Franklin Simmons completing a couple of nice passes to Taiyon Jackson and then finishing the drive himself with a 5-yard sneak up the gut. 28-7 now, with 10:56 left.

UPDATED, 9:06 p.m.: In perhaps its last gasp, West returned the second-half kickoff all the way to the Frontier 17, courtesy of Taiyon Jackson. But for the third time, Frontier stiffens in its own end, with linebacker Will Harvey intercepting Franklin Simmons. Frontier proceeded to suck up half of the third-quarter clock before turning it over on downs. West has the ball again, still 28-0, but it's getting late in the third already.

UPDATED, 8:53 p.m.: About to start the second half at West. Here are some first-half stats:

Frontier — Deshaunte Webber nine carries, 67 yards, two TDs; Rudy Valdivia eight carries, 29 yards. Josh Legorreta 4-of-7 passing for 81 yards, with two catches for 33 yards and a TD going to Jacob Adelman.
West — Moose Cobb nine carries for 25 yards, Franklin Simmons five carries, 14 yards and 2-of-5 passing for 66 yards, 49 of those yards going to Bryan Ortiz.
BHS-Centennial is still 12-7, now at the half. Kessler said he might have heard a pop in his ankle. He sat out the whole second quarter. Not good at all. It was the Golden Hawks backup, however, who led Centennial to its only scoring drive.

UPDATED, 8:45 p.m.: It stays 28-0 at halftime here, where Frontier is proving yet again that it's an elite team in Kern County. Elsewhere, I've got some scores rolling in, and we're learning a lot about other teams as well.
Bakersfield leads Centennial 12-7 late in the first half, where maybe the bigger news is that Cody Kessler apparently rolled an ankle earlier in the second quarter. Californian correspondent Ron Stapp says he's had the ankle taped on the sideline but it looks like Kessler might not be able to return. BHS should feast if that's the case, you would think. Meanwhile, Stockdale is up 35-6 on South at the half — the undefeated Rebels fail to keep it close in their first test. And a couple of shutouts, Liberty 24-0 over Foothill, and Ridgeview 21-0 over North, also halftime scores. Garces leads Highland 20-7 in the second. I'll be back with stats from this one in a second.

UPDATED, 8:30 p.m.: I hate to call a second-quarter play a dagger, but West just lost a lateral pass from Franklin Simmons to Moose Cobb and Jacob Adelman scooped it up and could have walked the 23 yards to the end zone from there. Two plays, two touchdowns, and it's 28-0. Simmons just found Bryan Ortiz on a slant across the middle, though, and the speedy Ortiz took it 49 yards to set West up inside the 20.
Now it's third-and-9 from the 17, though, and it looks like Frontier will stiffen when needed again. Incomplete pass, fourth down. West is going to go here; this is about the Vikings' last chance to get back in it before half. Simmons tries to run for it and gets only about two yards. Titans take over, up 28-0, with 1:33 left.

UPDATED, 8:23 p.m.: Looks like all Matt Darr might have to do tonight is boot some impressive-looking extra points. Deshaunte Webber just made it 20-0, Darr 21-0, with a 24-yard run over right tackle. West has just one stop on the night, when Bryan Ortiz intercepted Josh Legorreta on the goal line. But West couldn't get a first down and gave the Titans great field position at the West 30. Easy pickins for Frontier from there, and they've got a commanding lead 3:09 from halftime.

UPDATED, 8:11 p.m.: West does manage to convert a couple of first downs to get out near midfield, and from there Mustafaa Cobb, the man they call Moose, got free on the left sideline and accelerated for 23 yards. Now the Vikings have a real threat going.
But now Frontier stiffens, forcing a fourth-and-11 from the their 36. West is gonna go for it, but the Titans call a timeout first. At least West has been able to get something going here and stop the bleeding for a few minutes. If they can get points here, or pin Frontier deep, maybe they'll get a foothold in this game. Keep in mind the Vikes were down 14-0 to Ridgeview last week and came back to win.
Out of the timeout, on second thought, West will punt. And Richard Soria hits it off the side of his foot and only gets four yards on the punt. That's a bad mistake, and Frontier gets field position without even getiing the stop.

UPDATED, 7:58 p.m.: If you needed another reminder that it's a game of inches, you got it at West here. Frontier converts a fourth-and-1 from inside the 10 by the nose of the football on a Josh Legorreta keeper, then pushed in for their second TD from there. Deshaunte Webber did the honors from a yard out, and it's 14-0. Fifteen seconds left in the first quarter. It'd be a good idea to respond if you're the Vikings, and do it quickly.
First score from around town: Garces 14, Highland 0, late first quarter.

UPDATED, 7:49 p.m.: Frontier wastes no time taking the lead in this one. Actually, it could have been even faster. Jacob Adelman took the opening kickoff back 100 yards for a touchdown (probably should have been a touchback, actually), but it was called back because of a block in the back away from the play. Undeterred, the Titans marched 61 yards in nine plays to take a 7-0 lead on Adelman's 15-yard reception from Josh Legorreta. After a three-and-out, Frontier has the ball back again in West territory.

UPDATED, 7:17 p.m.: Here at West High, checking in about 10 minutes before kickoff. Rich Cornford is out there, very businesslike with his Titans, as he visits his old stomping grounds for the first time as a visitor. West High won the JV game 22-7 in what strikes me as a bit of a surprise, though I admit I don't know many other JV results. In the varsity game, Frontier is favored to move to 5-0, but West's speed will be a test for the Titans.
Keep it here throughout the night — I'll have updates from this game, and I've got some reporters checking in at games around the city, including Stockdale at South, Bakersfield at Centennial and Highland at Garces.

ORIGINAL POST: The air a bit crisper, the players a bit more seasoned and the games a bit more meaningful. Hard to believe that we'll be halfway through the regular season after tonight (more than halfway when you include Week 0), but here we are. The season is taking shape. And that will continue tonight.

I'll be at West High watching Frontier try to stay undefeated against Rich Cornford's old team. We'll also have plenty of updates tonight from Stockdale at South, where the Californian's Jeff Evans is stationed, and from Bakersfield at Centennial and Highland at Garces from correspondents Ron Stapp and Steve Lynch. We'll try to get scores from a few other games as well as we go on.

The complete list is below, and the live updates will begin around 6:30 or 7 tonight. They'll update above, with the most recent on top. Make this your Friday night home base, and you'll be in good hands.

Also, check out my Week 5 predictions and a Week 5 podcast with myself and Todd Camps before the action starts tonight.

BHS @ Centennial should be a good game, especially if last night's frosh/soph game is any indicator.  Centennial defeated BHS 14-0 after scoring a touchdown and 2-point conversion with under 3:00 remaining to put the game away.  I'll be out watching that one for sure tonight.  Frontier @ West could be interesting, too, same with Stockdale @ South, if the Rebels can find a way to stop Stockdale's offense (and as I saw last week when Centennial played against Stockdale, that sure won't be easy) and score some points themselves.

Sitting out at home this week (so much for getting the flu shot!). Frontier's the real deal! Watch out Stockdale! The Titans may be their stiffest league competition!

When does Frontier get Stockdale?!?

Delano High beats Manache-Porterville 33-12. Delano posts 301 yards rushing and 123 yards passing. At the half, Delano held Monache to 60 yards passing and -6 rushing, much of the same in the second half.  So much for not ranking Delano, huh?

posted by BobbyShoaf on Oct 9, 2009 at 10:29 PM

Some said that Delano would not fare so well against the air attack of the Monache Marauders, but by the end of the 1st half, Delano had 188 total yards on offense and held Monache to just 54 total offense. Monache was -6 yards rushing. Delano came away victorious 33-12.

Andy Del Campo and Josh Garcia put up some big numbers. Del Campo rushed for 205 of Delano's 301 yards while Garcia passed for 123 yards. The players were fired up throughout the second half. This is the second game where the Tigers came out fired up and increased the intensity as the game wore on.

Tigers win! 5-0 and counting...

The team looks solid, especially the defense.  Monache offense had no answer for the Tiger rush, which kept Monache's quarterback pressured all night.  I am really liking this teams ability to win next week against Porterville.  Andy Del Campo has put this team on his back and carried them to victory.  If you don't know this kid personally, he's a little, but with has an incredible competetive spirit.  It's about time he gets nominated for the Army Bowl.  Is KERO 23 getting this?

On another note, Zack I want to commend your reporting on the Tigers.  Although they are still the most underrated undefeated team in the Kern County, you are doing a great job putting these kids on the map.  Something most people don't know is that this Varsity team is composed of a J.V. and Freshmen team that collectively were 19-20 in 2008 (only loss to Tulare Union).  Oh and if you were planning on comming up county, I recommend attending the CCHS vs. DHS (T-Bowl) game!  You will experience some routy Delano fans, as well as an intensity matched by few other teams.  Keep up the good work.

IBBG, That was not Zack reporting on the Tigers, it was me. Delano fans have to submit their own updates or else TBC and the rest of the Bakersfield media will not report it until later in the weekend. Become a fan on my Facebook page: Search for Delano Tigers.

Bobby... cut the guys some slack... though i agree with you that Delano does not  get in the paper much... its nothing new, its been that way for as long as i remember... we are like the step child... kern county papers forgets about us... and tulare county forgets about us... who cares... good thing is we are playing well we are taking care of business... if we keep wining it will come... like they say "win it, and they will come" ha ha ha there are so many schools and so much man power...why travel far when most of the games are in town... I

I believe zach has been doing a good job... this kid is not from here and totally agree he has no fav. he dosent know delano... Yo, Zach keep up the good work,  I like reading your stuff man... but one thing i will say you should come down to a Delano game... the CCHS game would be the best game to see the show... but there is no place like  the jungle at DHS stadium!

I'd love to guys. I'll see about getting up there before season's end. And you're completely right, DTfootball; keep winning, and the attention will come. There are more than 35 high schools in Kern County now, and since most of our circulation comes from Bakersfield, we do focus there first. But I promise I haven't forgotten you guys.

posted by BobbyShoaf on Oct 10, 2009 at 12:38 AM

Listen DTFooball, and everyone else that wants to cut "these guys" some slack. THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE&nb sp;GREASE.

I don't really care that the manpower sits in Bakersfield and reports Bakersfield. I don't care that someone has come from afar because of a job. What I care about is the kind of press that the North County, primarily Delano and McFarland, gets. As a proud Delano Alumni I returned to the area after 12 years of service. It saddens me when I see the same ol' same ol' is going on: TBC and the TV stations do not report many of the great accomplishments of these underprivileged north county kids.

I have volunteered my time to gather the stats for DHS and update the MaxPreps site as well as a DT Football Fan Page. I do not get paid for this except for the joy of seeing the youth of a fine community get recognized for their accomplishments. Did you know that CCHS is ranked 4, academically, in the county (behind Stockdale, Centennial, and Frontier?) ? The wrap Delano gets is due in part to its citizens not becoming more vocal.

Enough is enough, folks. Delano has a great football team, and each week it seems like the comment is: well, next week they face a real opponent, so we will see then. As a matter of fact, the comment that "A tricky trip to Porterville" is not only ridiculous, but offensive. What about P-villes tricky trips to Taft and Wasco?

Forget next week for a moment, how about now, DTFootball? How about not coming to the rescue of someone who has the majority of the county behind him because most of the schools are in his AO.  How about patting these kids backs in the newspaper and television. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I was playing football and I did not see a local news station's camera at the game. Then to go home and watch Hometown sports after a big win or a game with some big hits or plays, only to have the score (sometimes incorrect) to pop up on the screen.

No, DTFootball, TBC, and the rest of you...I will not cut any slack. Zach talks about Delano's inconsistency, well, Bakersfield has definitely been consistent for the past 20 years (at least) by both not properly reporting Delano's successes and acting shocked when something goes good in D-town.

By the way, only two TV stations made the 40 minute journey to Delano. Telemundo was there for the first half and another was there for the second. Give me a break.

(Sigh)

Other than Osbaldo Orozco, there was not much to report on Delano football when you were in high school.

Sedrick Ashley was a star for his senior year there and he couldn't even touch the practice field when he was at BHS (Football and basketball).

posted by studtchr on Oct 10, 2009 at 12:57 AM

Hey DT fans the combined record of the 5 teams you have beaten is 6-20.

posted by BobbyShoaf on Oct 10, 2009 at 01:13 AM

So, whats your point studtchr and jfrancais? I am guessing that you don't believe Delano should receive any press because they have had only a couple of good players. How ridiculous is that? Your comments do prove a point, though: You only know what Delano has from what you read and there is not much out there for you to read. However, Tehachapi and Taft, which are much farther drives and smaller communities, get much more press.

I will make a prediction, though. If Delano loses, you will be the first to let me or any other DT fan know.

posted by jfrancais on Oct 10, 2009 at 10:10 AM

My point is if you continue to win you will get the press.  Delano was not a very good team when you were there but they had a good player.  If Delano loses, I wont put it in your face.  That's not my style. These are student-athletes we are talking about and I think it's trashy to relish in kids' ire when they are trying to do something positive.  Plus, I think it's cool that they have strong academics.  I like good football and give props, especially in the valley.

Admittedly, I am a little put off by you and your "ESPN style" rants on Zach.  It doesn't matter though, the stats will speak for themselves.

Tehachapi (mountain football) has been good for a very long time.  I've followed Central Valley football for more than 20 years.  There is no aganda by Zach to giev them press over Delano.

Taft started winning a few years ago hence they started getting press (Not to mention they are one of the oldest high schools in KC).  You do the same and it will happen to DHS.

posted by jfrancais on Oct 10, 2009 at 10:16 AM

How ridiculous is that? Your comments do prove a point, though: You only know what Delano has from what you read and there is not much out there for you to read.

My comments say more about my indifference to your perceived lack of respect by folks in Bakersfield.  My knowledge of DHS from back in the day is from the fact that we actually played DHS when I was at BHS before I was on varsity and had a few friends that went there during my prep years.  Orozco was one of the top LBs in the section while at DHS (That guy could hit!!!).  He is also one of my brother in arms (one of the first officers to die in Iraq).

Just keep winning if you want the sports press, Bobby.

posted by IBBG on Oct 10, 2009 at 10:49 AM

Bobby, your right...

TBC or Bakersfield broadcasting stations do not equally report on Delano schools, sports or events.  That sad reality is coverage on a team/school is about a team being able to sell a newspaper; Unfortunately, Delano doesn't have many TBC subscribers.

was directing the improvement to Zach.  Lately, he has given Delano a little L.O.V.E.  Just a little. lol. (thanx again Zack)

"Win and they will come," that is good way to put it Bobby.  We also love all our volunteers that take on so many jobs to make DT FOOTBALL a great environment for our kids!  At time media can be a double edged sword because if "they come" and Delano loses, they label the Tigers with words like inconsistent.  Hey Zack, to comment on the Panthers being tricky?  True or not they may be tricky, but the Tigers Will be ready.

A note for all the bloggers, quit being Delano haters.  Embrace or accomplishment like if it were from your own Alma mater.  By the way studtchr Delano and South have a similar strenght in schedule.  So please don't critique a teams ability by there opponent record; use statistics.

jfrancais, Osbaldo Orozco was not the only good thing that has happened to Delano.  Possibly, the most honorable event this team has experienced recently was the 1st annual Hall of Fame Dinner.  The event brought back past Delano Tiger Players; the honorees shared motivational and inspirational stories.  I credit these men or heroes,  for getting the undefeated Tigers were they are today.  It does not matter if Delano is 6-0,7-0,8-0...I'm honored for what they have accomplished whether media recognized it or ignores it.

I'm confused by the indignation over the "tricky trip to Porterville" comment. If Delano doesn't realize that it's tricky, then it WON'T be ready. You respect every opponent, right?

And by the way, I hope you all realize that Delano has now gotten about six times the coverage on this blog post than any other school. As I've said before; the great majority of our readers are in Bakersfield, and there are more in Taft or Tehachapi than there are in Delano. I'm not just saying this — I've seen the readership numbers. I also think it's true that Delano is not on the same level as the top five or six teams in Bakersfield. Obviously I could be wrong, seeing that I haven't seen the Tigers play, but I have reasons for thinking that.

That doesn't mean we're going to ignore Delano, and I haven't done that. Just realize that I already spend about 50 hours a week on this job and that giving all 36 schools in the county the coverage their fans think they deserve is just not feasible.

(*Sigh*) Good for you and Delano...

Just keep winning if you want sports press coverage.

I stand by my statement.  DHS was not very good in the 90's.  He stood out on some mediocre to bad teams.

Ok...now back to the JUICY STUFF!  ( :   Liberty lost to Centennial who lost to Stockdale to lost to BHS who lost to Liberty! Frontier is in a position to answer a lot of questions in week nine IF they don't falter against Centennial. Nightmare scenario for ranking: Frontier BEATS Stockdale but LOOSES to Centennial. The G-Hawks AGAIN throw a monkey wrench into the WHOLE equation!

OK I'll try this again......Do you guys ever watch the local FB high school coverage TV program called Hometown Sports?  They have provided video highlights of each Delano fb game for the last four weeks.  The links were posted last Monday here.......   http://people.bakersfield.c...

Patrick319, just so you know, Frontier doesn't play against Centennial until week 10.

Hopefully Cody Kessler will recover soon.  Meanwhile, Mark Ritchie will have to step up and play well.  He did show some promise with his first drive, throwing a nice 36-yard pass to Cole Hallum on (I believe) 3rd and long.  Then he found Elijah Trail open in the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown pass 2 plays later.  But, as I've said before, Centennial MUST clean up its mistakes.  Mistakes have hurt Centennial all year, including last night.  Stockdale pounded South and Frontier did the same to West and Ridgeview defeated North.  Now, Centennial has a must-win game against South next week at home.  The Frontier @ Centennial game in week 10 will be a showdown no matter what each team's records are.  That one's going to be a big rivalry.

WOW.... Bobby... You got what you asked for... alot of press for delano this week on this blog... thanks! Though i do agree on many of your points, its just reality man... life is not fair... cant just sit there and itch about it... Money talks, and like every one has said not to many ppl subscribe to TBC... and yea DT has not been very good at football in the past untill recently we been having some success... if it keeps up i am sure we will get much attention! just one thing you need to relax, otherwise you gonna need some help, sounds like you stressing over this... PLus i am sure the team dosent even care what is going on, i know for a fact that they are focused on continuing what that have begun and they are well aware of the lack of "respect" if you will from newspapers and the fans... now dont get me wrong there was a good turn out of fans friday night... but after homecomming you would think more ppl would show up...

And to everone who reads this... In my opinion ppl in Delano are aware of the lack of reporting but i believe we all understand and like i have said.... "win and they will come" ... and are not bothered (as much) as bobby... but hey bobby as a DHS alumni and Delano resident thanks for the supporting the team the way you do... and your efforts to getting delano some publicity! but dont be an ass about it!! ha ha

Anyways lets put this soap away... and continue talking football.... Frontier has impressed me!  and Zach Delano does know P-villes ways and surely knows that they have alot of tricky plays... but they will be ready! cant wait!

Clarification: Frontier can answer a lot of questions in week 9 against if they were to beat Stockdale. The perfect disaster in trying to seed these guys for playoffs would be if Frontier were to beat Stockdale in week 9 but loose to Centennial in week 10. Zach, how in the world would you seed that? Liberty lost to Cententennial who lost to Stockdale who lost to Frontier who lost to Centennial who lost to BHS who lost to Liberty. Section seeding has always been dominated by teams north of Kern County.  Wouldn't this nightmare scenario possibly play out as NONE of the Division I teams in town playing a home playoff game?  I could honestly say at this point that minus a let down against Centennial, Liberty might be the best D-I team in town.  Liberty v Stockdale on 10/16! Aren't these guys all league opponents next year? If so, we're getting a great preview!

I think its very hard at this point to argue that Frontier should NOT move up a spot or two. I think we've seen BHS and Centennial (sorry bryan) go flat as of recent weeks, and I honestly DO NOT see the G-Hawks going far without Kessler. BHS is mistake prone. Liberty found its offense (oh-oh!). Frontier and Stockdale are scoring machines.  I think Frontier, Stockdale, and Liberty are heading full speed towards eachother with the first collision to occur this coming friday!

DT Football, are we on the same side here? Seriously, you have the headline and even write some good stuff (half the time.) Then you go and make an ass of u and me and ASSUME that I am "stressing out" about this. You obviously don't know me. You don't know my passions. I don't think I know you, but I am sure that I can say this much about you: you read too much into my postings. Here's a bit of advice that I learned in the Marines: if you are confident you can influence a situation, then try, but, by all means, do not let the situation control you. You need to realize that just because things have been this way as long as you remember does not mean you have to turn over and give in. Reach down, grab ahold, and put on some big boy pants, because our boys are doing this day in and day out (Trust me, I actually do see it, I saw it this morning when these dedicated young men watched nearly 4 hours of tape).

Oh, and don't tell me life is not fair, brother. I have lost too much in this lifetime and know this all too well. By doing what I do, I have found a way to cope with the "unfairness" that life has dealt me.

On another and more topic appropriate note. I expect Delano High to jump from the waiting list to the top 15, if not, then I don't know what will have to be done.

Also, as we enter the second half of a great season, lets continue to remember these players as they push themselves. Encourage them to voice their aches and pains. I lost a dear friend because he wanted to "man up" and play through an injury. These boys are so competitive and want to do so well that they won't allow themselves to heal. Let's be good fans, parents, and coaches by providing the leadership they need. The flu and other contagious sickness is beginning to go around, lets ensure they are drinking lots of water and increasing Vitamin C uptake. Also, a new mouth piece and disinfecting helmets and pads wouldn't hurt.

Patrick319 — Remember that Frontier is in Division II and will be seeded seperately from the four Division I schools in Kern. Results between divisions are certainly important, but you don't have to worry as much about head-to-head matchups. As for the D-I seeding, I think at this point Buchanan, Bullard and Clovis West will get the top three seeds (right now probably in that order, though you could flop the first two). The fourth spot almost certainly will go to a Bakersfield school, keeping one quarterfinal in the south Valley. Whichever team will be a league champ, so right now that looks like Liberty or Stockdale. It could easily come down to the winner of Friday's game, especially if the winner doesn't slip the rest of the way. In fact, the loser of that game could be the No. 5 seed, so this could be a playoff preview. Much more on that to come during the week, though.

Also keep in mind that if all 11 Division I teams choose to enter the playoffs, there will be first-round home games for the No. 6, 7 and 8 seeds, one or two of which likely will be Bakersfield schools as well. If fewer teams choose to enter the bracket (last year there were only eight, so there was no first round), then there will be fewer first-round games.

My bad-for some reason I thought Frontier was Division I. Won't the Titans play in the so called 'Super-division' with the other D-I teams next fall?

No offense taken, Patrick319.  I've gone to watch Centennial each of the last 4 weeks (only missing the Redwood game in Week 1 because it was in Visalia), and I've seen Centennial make quite a few mistakes, even in the wins against Liberty and East.  Mistakes also cost Centennial in the two losses to Stockdale and BHS.  But, the defense has played tough for the most part, with the exception of the Stockdale game (when Stockdale scored 49 points).  Zach, why is Frontier in D-II and not D-I?

Keep in mind that Frontier is only in its third varsity season. It had completed just one season, as an independent, when the current divisional alignment was formulated. The divisions will be re-aligned this year for the following two seasons.
