Chico, I've certainly heard of that kind of theme from the likes of Pat Robertson. About a dozen years ago Disney World announced they would be holding a special gay & lesbian day at their theme park, you know, like family day, except for gay families. So Pat Robertson got on the 700 Club and said that God told him that if Disney World went through with this event, a hurricane would hit Orlando. What seriously then occurred was that a hurricane, in fact, did form in the Gulf and it was headed for Florida but took a swing up across Alabama and across land to hit Vienna, Virginia, where, it turns out, the HQ of Robertson's 700 Club calls home.

Of course, the serious answer is that God has nothing to do with the weather and that hurricanes do what to do on their own power. There are no supernatural implications at play if the Democrat convention or the Superbowl or Pat Robertson's headquarters gets hit by a storm.

Now, three years after Katrina, we have to wonder if we'll see the same thing we saw when Katrina was destroying lives on the Gulf Coast.

You can say that Democrats are hoping it happens, but the truth is we can't afford any more disasters as long as the party of man-made disasters is in charge. I pray that the storm will stop and people will get to watch the Republican Convention. Nothing worse for the party than people actually seeing them talk about what they believe in.

Uh, Chico. GOD speaks directly to Pat Robertson, unlike the rest of the world. Watch his show. He'll tell you so. I did screw up the details of that, but what I found online was even more hysterical.

Note the Indian Ocean Tsunami story. My niece's birthday was on the day of that tsunami. She what you call a "devoted" Christian, even if see puffs a little weed on the sly because of it relieves some pretty severe pain she has from a car wreak injury she had years ago while driving back and forth from San Diego to Tijuana where she was helping feed the homeless. On that faithful day in the Indian Ocean, she had called Pat Robertson's 700 Club to ask for a prayer because of some terrible pain she was experience in her foot. She testifies that they did, indeed, pray for her and that she did feel a kind of miraculous relief. But, this is the part that gets me. Why her foot pain and not the lives of 200,000 people who were killed by that tsunami? It disturbs the part of me that was a devout Christian for 30 years. She wrote to us to tell us about that experience with the 700 Club and it wasn't until later that I realized that happend on the same day as the tsunami. I read a newspaper report about a week ago in which people who participated in a fairly large scale survey were asked where they attributed medical skill to Godly intervention. The major did. Something like 57% believed that when they had successful, positive outcome after a visit to the hospital, they thought it was the hand of God involved. I don't hold that belief. Pat Robertson does.

I heard that Senator McCain was preparing to go down to NO and fill sand bags. Wish he'd have had that kind of enthusiasm when Katrina hit, but then, he wasn't running for the presidency at the time. The Dems? They're already THERE.

I must say I was relieved to see the Homeland guy out there on the ground, checking the preparation. One of my oldest friends from high school runs a hospital there right on the north side of Lake Ponchatrain and he said the area was swarming with battalions of people, supplies, the works are already in place.

In the meantime it's always a good idea to keep your powder dry whether facing a hurricane or anything else that gives the barbarians an opportunity to loot and murder. Chico -- I'd heard that our national health care know-it-all, Michael Moore (that picture of healthful living), had been "wondering" if Gustav might interrupt the RNC. You don't suppose he may even have been somewhat hopeful, do you?

By-the-by, I have a sister living about 80 miles from Louisiana's Gulf. Katrina wreaked havoc on her, her house, fence, and many of her possessions. Gustav is now threatening. She is expecting her grandson to fly in tonight and her daughter (his mother) to fly in Tuesday, but neither she nor her daughter has been able to contact her grandson -- they have no idea where he is inasmuch as he was flying from another origination point. If he's able to fly in, they will drive north to the home of another of my sisters, and my niece will in all likelihood cancel altogether. The best-laid plans of mice and men ------ and all that.

I think there'll be a lot of praying going on even though, Sam, God does already know the hearts of men (and women, too). In addition, both my sisters have and know how to use firearms. I reckon they're covering their bases. They could pray for guidance in the use of the firearms in the even of dire necessity. Let us hope it won't go that far. I've told them all that I hope Gustav will simply sail on out to the Pacific, nowhere near land of any description.

NO~ natural wonders and disasters happen. Everyone has their own vision of "God" ~or no vision of the concept. My personal belief is that "God" is not a vindictive 5 year old throwing tantrums to "punish " people. "God" gives one trials and tribulations to help one learn ones lessons in this life. All one can control is you~ so my thoughts go to those who will be impacted by this disaster directly.

I am thrilled we learned the lessons from the last disaster and are better prepared this time,to all apperances.

The problem with alleged theologians proclaiming God's hand being involved in natural disasters doesn't quite pan out for New Orleans. The only places unaffected were Bourbon Street, and the French Quarter.

So using their logic, one could make a better claim that God was punishing all the non partying folks and rewarding sinners.

I wonder how much better we could fix the levees protecting one of our most strategically important ports with 3 months worth of Iraq money?

I like all those guys I mentioned, but I didn't think they could energize the ticket. Carly has too much baggage from HP, Kay Bailey is a little long in the tooth and inside beltway, Jindahl didn't really seem to want it, so I was left with Sarah. I started looking into her background and it reminded me of a time in the Kings Cross in Sydney Australia in 1969 when I was having a beer with a Special Forces Aussie just back from VN [Quin Nhon where we served for awhile together and at Bhu Prang] and he told me: "You Yanks are like an inverted pyramid...... You wear your bleedin lives on your sleeve..... in ten minutes I can know more about you than I want to without even asking. But when you do its like an upside down pyramid mate, the deeper you dig..... the less there is....."

I didn't go to any of the links since it's way too early to dignify the rumors. I hope it isn't true, not that I would think any less of them for doing it, but that it would be a cover up the left would love to sink their teeth into. If it turns out to be a rumor, that would be the lowest I have ever seen someone go to drag down a candidate.

In all honesty it's more likely the baby with Downs would belong to an older woman than to a teen since that's one of the things they warn women over40 about. It shouldn't be hard to track down since someone somewhere was in the delivery room with the mom.

For the hating liberal who speculated that Palin never could have been pregnant given her weight months after the birth, I offer this ... I gained over forty pounds with my nine pound babies ... 135 to over 180 with one of them. And within two months after the deliveries I was back to 140. I'm sure breastfeeding helped, but I know that three miles a day and eating well did more.

Typical. Gives moms a bad name if we expect to carry "baby weight" around for the rest of our lives. Excuses, excuses.
