Both Female and Spayed and both came from the SPCA on I believe its Gibson , anyway you people know where I'm a talken about .;=)))

Your statement that people should "adopt a shelter pet rather than buy a purebreed" is perpetuating the common misconception that shelter animals are mixed breeds/mutts and only "purebreeds" are for sale. There is a huge number of purebred dogs and cats in shelters everyday, so if people want a specific breed a shelter is a great place to start. And there are plenty of mixed breeds being sold in the newspaper--some, like the faddish "Goldendoodles" and "Puggles", for exorbitant prices.

I'm sure what you meant to say was that people should not be buying ANY dog or cat, regardless of its pedigree or gene pool, from Kern's unethical backyard breeders when they could go to a local shelter and save a life.

I adopted a terrier mix 8 months ago from the Kern Co. Animal Shelter. I saw him while taking an animal care class at ROC. I already had a 10 yr old jack russell and I wanted another dog to keep her company and this little dog caught my heart for some reason. He is a little shy of most people, but he is my little baby. He is cute, funny, and makes me smile. I am so glad I adopted him and I would not hesitate to adopt from a shelter again. We named him Tater Tot, but we all call him Tater.

AND Im sure you wouldnt think this is a slam to breeders in Bakersfield Pup..infact you probably thought it was cute..I howevr dont..There are alot of breeders in Bakersfield that are not unethical and have glowing reputations with their past clients..

this person is calling ALL breeders such..I agree we have more than our fair share that are going over board breeding irresponsibly but its not right or fair to lump all Bakersfiled breeders into that catagory..

I don't really see, what the argument is about. Some one, some where, is going to buy that small one that's being sold through breeding.

I like getting mine through SPCA, when one of mine passes on, there's room for a new one. When I look at the SPCA, I don't take just any one, when I see a Dog at SPCA, there's a connection, you can see it in the Dog and you can feel it so, you don't just grab the first one you see, the same in breeding. When I got my Husky ( pure breed ) we made a number of trips before we picked and saved a life although they had already spayed these two because they knew they'd find homes. It's almost as if our two Dogs picked us rather than we picked them. If I see the Dog has a reaction as well, that's a BIG plus. We also look for the White teeth, good sign it may well be under a year old. Our Husky was right at a year old and the Vet said the Terrier was right at 9 months.

These Dogs at the SPCA didn't have a choice of coming into this World, and there are many of lonely people out there that could save a life and gain a friend. There is no more or better loyal friend in this World than a Dog or Cat, they never turn against you as a person may and if you say people close to you don't turn against you, check out the Civil Court House 2ND floor any day of the week.

No matter which way you go, take em down to SPCA and have a chip placed under the skin, you can do it with your Vet but it'll cost more. If your Dog becomes lost on the outside World and is picked up, they'll scan the Dog and up pops your Dogs address and other information that's on the chip. Save yourselves the heart ache and just do it.

I had a friend who`s sister`s boyfriend`s uncle knew a girl who`s stepdaughter saw a news program on a worker at the SPCA who had been in the SPCA organization for 20yrs and was also a waitress at Zingos and it was a touching program..the SPCA is a good project

My wife and her best friend of 30 years worked at the SPCA,,wife was a dispatcher and friend did the books we were forever getting a new dog cat or rabbits...we have put on dog demos ..set up and ran info booths ..helped the vets give shots during their dog day celebrations..its is a great org..

pup your a lost cause..no pun intended...insinuating I'm drunk is one of your toppers in showing everyone how childish you can get when some one doesn't agree with you..In the world i was raised in and probably 99.9% of the rest...Russky is a term used as another word for Russian...how old or naive are you that you wouldn't know that? Siouxcityranch, you need to stop jumping to all sorts of crazy conclusions. First, I didn't say ALL Kern breeders should be avoided--I said Kern's UNETHICAL ones should be. They're the ones who advertise several times a year in the paper, sell litters to anyone with the cash, do no genetic testing on sires/dams, require no purchase contract for their animals, and breed everytime it's possible. THOSE are the smallscale backyard puppymills to avoid.

Second, what exactly is the suggestion in your first post about how my name/nationality has to do with my viewpoint? Are you suggesting that IF I'm part-Russian, you can assume to know what I'll think about something? Wow, nice to know stereotypes are alive and well here. I guess you must be assuming I'm walking around town with a big red hammer and sickle on my chest? Dude, the Soviet Union has been gone for twenty years. You do NOT know someone's views by knowing (or not knowing) their heritage.

Actually I am at my limit of 3 dogs for the city limits here. But, if I ever get my dream of owning some property, I'm gonna have more :-)

I cannot ever say no to a pet in need of rescue. All but 1 of our 14 pets are rescues.

MostlyRussky...Dude when you generalize like you did in your post how else am I to perceive it..stating KERNS UNETHICAL BREEDERS kind of encompassed all breeders in 'THE COUNTY' wouldnt you say?? ..if it was not your intention then I apologize..emails read the way the author writes them so taking an extra minute to read over and make sure all doubt of your message is clear before you hit the submit button can alleviate this in the future..

I felt like you were slamming local dog people because you don't like BAKo like so many others on here do... I used the "Russian what do you expect" to get your goat as you had already gotten mine..Now if you wanna shake hands and continue in a positive manner towards finding an answer to this problem..I'm absolutely ready..

Thank You, I only have two Dogs because I only have two hands, When you're petting one, the other most always works their way in there as well. If I had three, I'd have to take off my shoe to scratch the third one. LOL,LOL ;=)))
