On Saturday Jan 5 2008 members of the Kern River Valley Sheriff's Station and the Kern County Sheriff's Gang Unit contacted several members the Vagos outlaw motorcycle gang at the Happy Haven Trailer Park on Lake Isabella Blvd. The Sheriff's Office was investigating the possibility that the Vagos were looking at the Kern River Valley to start a club. Following the investigation Michael Bryan Dunn 36, Kevin Earl
Corly 44, Christopher Peterson, 19 of the Lake Isabella area and Clarence Hoffman 52, Shane Nursery 34, and Roy Virgin 51 of Goshen Ca. The subjects were arrested on possession of dangerous weapon, narcotic and gang member charges. They were booked into the Kern County Sheriff's Central Receiving Facility.

During this investigation Dunn and Corley were also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, kidnapping, dissuading a witness, conspiracy and gang charges those charges stemmed from an investigation that occurred several weeks ago. That investigation is on going with more arrests pending.

From what I could gather, Hispanic gangs have a sort of moratorium on drive by shootings and black gangs do not. In essence the black gangs put themselves in the media more because of their drive by shooting styles that the majority of the time end up killing innocent children and adults instead of the intended target. So common sense tells me that if I were the DA I would pursue these types of criminals and get them off the street. I am not saying that other gangs with different ethnicities should not be targeted but black gang members do not really have a street code when it comes to this type of violence. I just hope we do not start to offer affirmitve action to killers and gang bangers, that would be sooo liberal California of us.

I did my time in the fields timec. Twelve hours a day, 6 days a week and Saturday's off because the boss was Seventh Day Adventist. I took home about 124 bucks a week, and my Irish ars, (well, maybe not my ars) got fried by the sun! My mom reminded me that she did the same thing at 9 years old, while I only did it for a few summers.

I don't care what anyone says, you have to have some special fortitude to work in the fields your whole life.

In response to the irrational comment that Bakersfield is Racist. If you look at most of the poverty in Bakersfield its centered in 3 parts of town. East Bakersfield, Central Bakersfield (cottonwood), and Oildale. The largest gang activity is also in these neighborhoods. The Bakers (Hispanic gangs in the east and Southeast), Crypts (Black gang:Cottonwood, Union Ave.), and the Oildale Peckerwoods aka Nazi Low riders( White gang, in Oildale and parts of Central Bako). The DA targets all of these gangs--it is ridiculously and ignorant to say the DA stereotypes.

That comment is very common in the culture of poverty. To be anti-law enforcement. People who are involved in criminal activity themselves no matter how small usually have an anti-law enforcement attitude. Unless you have solid evidence in your claim then you should watch what you say--because it makes you look like a fool

I have had many family members that have experienced Kern Justice. Stevie Wonder can see that Kern County is racist. This justice system here is unfair. I will ask you this why in the hell did the white motorcycle gang walk on all charges? You tell me one black that walked on all charges after it was all over the news. I spoke with a criminal attorney here in Kern County and he told me blacks need to be careful in this court system. Kern county specializes in scaring innocent people into pleading guilty to crimes they did not commit.

Thank you for naming all of the gangs but tell me why the black gangs are the only ones on Kern's hit list?

I got into a high speed chase with the cops about 22 years ago and I have a story to tell.............. the chase lasted about 10 minuets before I crash and I remember looking up and there was a bako cop at my window with his gun pointing at my head and he yelled ''GET THE F--K OUT OF THE CAR OR I'LL SHOOT YOU'' well not being to smart I started the car and took off.....Being I had two flat tires I didn't get to far so I stopped and was instantly rammed by a police car, I was dragged out of the car and thrown onto the ground and I could feel several guns on my back as they were telling me to ''MAKE A MOVE MOTHER F--KER'' ...................You can bet I didn't move.....Anyway here's the good part......The cop that originally told me to get out of the car or he would shoot me was the cop that transported me to jail.......About half way to the jail the cop looked back at me and said ''do you know why I didn't shoot you back there''...no I said......Now here's the good part .....He said that he didn't shoot me because I was white.................. Its good to be white !

I got pulled over by a cop this weekend while in Bakersfield. He told me he pulled me over (I was driving a Cadillac with gold rims) because his job is to find gangsters and that I looked like a gangster. It was about 2am and I was just leaving the drive-thru at the Taco Bell on Brundage.I told him that I work for the DOJ and he left me alone. The whole weekend I kept asking myself, "what does a ganggster look like?" Was I racially profiled or did the cop have a legitimate reason to pull me over? He didn't even ask for my registration(he did ask if I was on parole or probation, though).

If anything I was somewhat relieved due to the fact that I had two beers earlier that night and was concerned about a breathylizer. I truly believe he was out looking for gangsters. He wasn't mean but I was shocked at the admission and that being the reason for being pulled over. Since I turned left on Oleander and parked my car by the Pantry, it apparently was suspicious and made me out to be a "gangster". I'll go ahead and file the complaint since you think I'm bluffing. I just concluded that he thought I was a gangster because he asked if I was on parole, he asked why I was in that (my) neighborhood and didn't ask for my registration. Is that an unfair assumption? I believe you jfrancais. The same thing happened to me once. I was driving from the Carrows on Easton going south on Real Rd and got pulled over by the BPD. I was in my late teens and driving my recently deceased grandpa's big old Lincoln Continental type car. The officer approached from behind very slowly with his gun drawn, and as soon as he shined his light in my window and saw I was a sweet little teenage white girl (with a sweet little teenage white boy next to me) he relaxed. He asked for registration and my friend opened the glove box and my grandpa's 8-track tapes came spilling out, and that was pretty much the icing on the cake. The officer said he was looking for a vehicle that fit this description (baloney! I knew it was a gangsta hooptie) but he pulled me over because of a broken taillight, but he never wrote me a ticket and let me go. At my friend's house I had my friend stand behind my car while I did the brake light, etc, and none of my lights were out. My friend and I knew exactly what was going on. If I had been a black person in that car that night, the whole story would have gone very differently.

I felt that way as a kid (and fairly recently) but since I know a few folks on the force, I would like to believe it is only select few or that they have been trained to "profile" or make assumptions. I just worked on a task force meeting with LE and the community and one of the big complaints was of the adversarial relationship between LE and the community.

When I am pulled over by a cop I expect to be treated differently.....not because I am black but because my attitude sucks. If I am guilty of something OK pull me over but don't interrupt my day for some b/s..... Oh your license plated light is out, I received a call about a car that fits the same description as yours, or what are you doing out at this time of night...Those are all reasons why cops pull over blacks people for no reason. I tell them to give me my ticket or let me go. I will not answer a hundred and one questions...I don't have to.

My brother has been pulled over late at night and the cops have asked him are you on parole or probation. My brother says no. The cops ask do you have any guns or dope. My brother says no. The cops asked can I check...my brother says yes. The cops checked and let him go. That is wrong. So basically my brother was pulled over for being black after 12am....b/s.

I believe JF because this is a common practice. The BPD's gang task are famous for harassing Negro's at night. They are just doing their job ..that is what they were hired to do.

Speaking of racism, I too have been a victim of reverse racism. You might not be able to tell but I do have a lot of Spanish and Mexican blood flowing through me. I do look like a run of the mill cracker, white boy though. I ventured into Ranch Market a few months ago and I was the only white looking one in there. I did get a few smiles and hellos, but mostly it was the cold shoulder from my brothers and sisters. I thought it was pretty cool. Idiots. Then the guy at the meat counter refused to prepare some meat I wanted to buy a certain way. Although the sign right above his head read something like "carnes preparados sin gratis" (meat cut for free how you like it) i think that's what it means. I don't speak spanish. I really got the feeling that I wasn't wanted there and I could hear people running their mouths behind my back calling me pendejo, cavacho and other more colorful names. Racism is all around and is practiced by all ethnic groups. It's not just blacks and whites.

You're right about the reverse racism, Frankie. For every story about racism against blacks, there's another about reverse racism. Everybody's so judgemental. It's not just about race, either. You see a little old lady driving a big, old car, you automatically assume she's going to go 30mph. You see a bunch of men in suits crossing Truxtun Ave, you automatically assume they're important--attorneys or something. You see a woman wearing a short miniskirt and a cleavage blouse walking down the street, you automatically assume she's a slut--or a divorcee! LOL.

I remember reading a long time ago that making judgements on appearances is part of a human's basic wiring. It was essential back in the hunter/gatherer days when humans needed to have a keen sense of their surroundings to survive. It's still important today, too. It's that uneasy feeling you get when all of the information your senses are gathering in a particular situation are telling you "something's not right here." Of course, we rarely need that keen sensory judgement much anymore, and we seem to use it more for bad than good, ie racism.

Above the Law there must be section 8 apartments below us the last year more and more black teens are seen walking across the street and not at the cross walks everytime I see illegal handi cap parking guess who I guess their above the law

At 11.00 the other night five neighbors were seen chasing a couple black teenagers down the road these black kids for no known reason decided they didn't like the tires on eleven cars so a knife slit the sides wide open

28 years up here and no troubles but section 8 seems to draw the bad one's and up here it seems to be the black one's

And yes they were caught and with the knife I don't know if they were beaten or not one can only HOPE

Funny you guys mentioned getting pulled over by people. One day my family and I were at the Valley Prison err Plaza and as usual there were a bunch of gang banging looking thugs just standing in the middle of the mall, blocking the flow of traffic. We will leave out the ethnicity of this group because I know you can figure them out. Anyways, my family and I are trying to get thru this gangster pile up and they do not want to move so I say excuse me politely and one kid tells me f*@# you motherf@%*&! that's on crip. This is while my wife and kids are with me. I tell the little future inmate his mom should have swallowed him and moved right along. I too have been a victim at the hands of disrespectful person and am probably going to have pay for this person to be locked and repeatedly rehabilitated (insert sinister laugh here) numerous times because he likes to be a gangbanger. Instead of constantly crying about our outstanding police department let's put gangsters on front street. Besides when you are being carjacked who are you going to call the crips, southsiders, or skinheads. I don't think so.

Catherine, I think you're right. Walking down the main street in Wasco, I never felt threatened or concerned but I certainly knew I looked out of place. I did it anyway because it's a friendly town and it didn't matter that I was the minority there. (They have a GREAT doughnut shop where they sell brownies that would make you run in circles and write bad checks.)

For a long time I was the only non Hispanic/Latino/Mexican in my office with the exception of a part time doctor. I rarely paid any attention to it. (only when they told jokes in Spanish..lol)

For every cop beat down against blacks is there a cop beat down story against whites...I think not. We are the most hated race in the US....why...I saw a study on the most hated races. Ancestors? You make it sound like these atrocities happened in the Paleozoic Age. My mother lived in the 50's and 60's. My grandmothers lived through Jim Crow and was raised by a former slave. Heck, MLK was killed 10 years before I was born. We, as a society, have made substantial progress but it is still not that far removed.
