I've eaten at this place a countless number of times, and I've never once had bad service or a bad meal. The prices are reasonable, the food is fantastic, the menu is extensive, and they have crushed ice!!! I highly recommend this place without reservation. There's a reason why you have to wait so long to get in on the weekends.

I used to live in San Diego and enjoyed the variety of great restaurants there, but that's no reason to slam this place. I've been to 24th St. many times, and have never been disappointed. Everything is relative. Compared to other restaurants in this community 24th St. is highly regarded with many loyal fans as shown by the other reviewers here.

I recently moved here from sunny San Diego. I like good food, and I'm a "food critic". I was told that this place was the best in Bakersfield. I found it to be disappointing, beginning with service. It took a waitress about 10 minutes to acknowledge we were in the place, just standing, and the food was very “conventionally” horrible. Maybe, I was expecting too much. I normally get immediate, awesome service, which San Diego (and other places) is great for. I found this place to be slow, not busy (at the moment) and could not understand their horrible service. I know I’m not in San Diego anymore, but gosh…I want to find at least one good place to eat besides chain restaurant. Just to give everyone an idea of my expectations, if anyone ever visits San Diego or Vegas try this place, you will never think this cafe is the "very best"....

Sorry Bakersfield, I'm still waiting to be "Wowed"… Restaurant owners, you need to kick it up a notch, you have well traveled people moving in, and college students that are adventurous, small-town-farm food is not cutting it anymore. Entrepreneurs take advantage and be creative, make an awesome restaurant here in Bakersfield!
