This place has adorable decorating and atmosphere, but these guys don't have it together service-wise. I went to this place for some sushi with friends and these guys were a mess. Some of us got our sushi first and some had to wait. I waited 2 hours for food and they couldn't get it together. Sadly, mine was the most simple roll to make, so I don't know what the chef was doing. They kept apologizing that the food wasn't there yet, but still no food. I even saw people that came in after me eating elaborate rolls and I still hadn't gotten my food.
I don't recommend this place for sushi. My order wasn't treated as priority, even after they acknowledged that I hadn't gotten my food yet. These guys should have stayed as a Mexican food place! They had better food back then and seemed to have it together.

I have eaten at ALL of the Sushi Restaurants in Bakersfield and many in Japan when I lived there for two years.
I believe that Azul has the best refined sushi from here to L.A., I would place Tokyo Garden at a close second for traditional sushi. All others are what I call Victim of Bakersfield sushi restaurants.
Azul may have short comings in the service department but if you really want a good "refined" roll, go to Azul. I recommend The Azul Roll and the Hawaiian which is sugar flambe'd.
Also the beer selection is awesome, I believe it has the biggest selection in Kern County!

Azul is a pretty cool place to go on Thursday-Saturday nite. A very trendy place....just too bad it's not a big place.
however, the only thing i didn't like about azul is the BOUNCER, the security guy at the door. The last time, I went I was the first in line and about 15 people behind me...and he was letting his WEED-SMELLING friends zip throu the line. Not a cool thing to do...due to the capacity of the place.
so....the owner's need to put this guy in check, if not i don't mind going else where.
