I have been to this place a good handful of times. First impressions were great. Food was great though it is not the type of sushi that actual "raw fish lovers" would like; I don't think. As time wore on, the service at this place has really declined. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the service and the psyche of the "experience" as a whole, but the food hasn't been as good as it used to.
The actual seafood is sort of masked by the other ingredients in the sushi. However this is not to say that the food wasn't any good. It is really satisfying and really affordable as far as sushi goes. Though like someone else mentioned, it seems more like a fusion type of sushi. At times there is too much fluff and not enough of the real seafood flavor. I'm talking either too much tempura or too much sauce (my wife used to remedy this by having them put the sauce on the side). If you are like most sushi lovers though, you might like that there isn't too much of that just-swam-up-on-to-my-plate taste.
As far as service, when they first opened up their servers were really polite and very wary of your needs. You know the typical check ups,
"Did you need more water?"
"How is your food so far?"
"Can I get you anything else for now?"
The last few times I have been there, it has not been this way. The servers have since changed and so has the quality of service. I am not a high maintenance customer whatsoever but I definitely like to make sure that I can at least see or make eye contact with my server once in a while. Among other things they started to forget some of the things you ordered. Be careful when you order in a medium to large group. Also the last few times I was there the food seemed to take longer than usual.
The service got so unsavory that I have not been there in a year. I am sorry to say this because I'm sure the servers are really cool otherwise and the place isn't all that bad as far as food and atmosphere. I must admit though, a few times my wife and I could not resist and ordered it for take out. If they tell you it will be ready in 30 minutes, give them a cushion, say…30 more minutes.
My mother is one of those people I described above. You know the ones that don't like to taste the raw fish but like to know that it is there. She wants to eat there soon for her birthday. Hey, if it's her birthday, who am I to say otherwise if that's what she really wants. Maybe if I have enough energy to re-review I will post again afterwards and hopefully have something different to say. Though its not like not everyone has been to this place already, judging by the photos on the wall.
If I could add a half star I would.
