I do not live in Bakersfield any more. I live in Las Vegas and wish there was a Bill lees here. I've been eating at Bill Lees for over 40 years. I came to Bakersfield in the 60's and found Bill Lees right away. I Know Sherman Lee and I knew his father Bill Lee.
The food today in 2009 is exactly the same as it was in the 1960's, just GREAT!

One of my favorite Chinese places to go to. It is a tradition that we go there as a family and the main reason why is because the food tastes great and very consistent.
It is also very unique. I have worked up and down the state and there is literally no other place that serves the unique combinations of foods that Bill Lee's does. I like (in no particular order) fried shrimp dinner, specialty of the house, sweet and sour chicken, mongolian beef, the egg rolls and the egg flour soup.
If you go for lunch, you should get one of the individual combinations, the perfect combo of rice, noodles, and something like bbq ribs or egg fu yung, etc. If you go for dinner, with a few people, order the family style dinners. They give you five or so dishes and everybody just shares everything which is great. Plus you get egg flower soup and the tea is included, unlike a lot of places where they charge you.
Went there this past weekend, am going back next weekend when the in-laws come to town.
Also, be ready to probably have food to take home. Great deal!

My co-workers and I went to Bill Lee's Chopsticks for a birthday luncheon. Everyone rubbed the belly of the life-sized Buddha statue as we entered the restaurant, and the decor made me feel like I had stepped back in time during Imperial China. Our Korean waitress was very attentitive to all of our needs and was especially patient when we asked how a dish was cooked. We ordered a dish from each section off the menu. When the food arrived, we had fun watching the waitress set down each plate on the inner, circular table which spunaround the outer, fixed table. The food was good, but the service was even better! If you make your way to Bill Lee's for lunch, ask for the tiny, Korean waitress, and you won't have to ask for a refill;)
