I went to Cold Stone Creamery in the Marketplace with my two kids on February 24, 2007. This was the first time I had gone to Cold Stone Creamery when I was not planning to go, nor had I gone, to Edwards. The kids and I had been couped up in the house all day and I thought we needed to get out.
My kids normally love ice cream. Me too. I love ice cream. We like all types of ice cream, including Rite Aide (formerly Thrifty's ice cream). I should have suspected something was not right tonight. The first comment from my daughter Paige as we entered the Marketplace parking lot was whether "we were going to the ice cream place with the stuffed bears." I told her "no, you're thinking about the place near Circuit City."
Enough background. Paige had a "loved it" sized Chocolate something. My son Blair had a "loved it" sized banana caramel something. I had a large chocolate fudge shake. I ate my entire shake on the spot. Blair ate half of his ice cream. Paige ate less than a quarter of her ice cream, and even spit out the portion of ice cream I wanted her to eat so I could put a to go lid on her cup. Mom, who was smart to stay at home, got a ton of left over ice cream when we returned. The moral of the story is excellent ice cream, which is what you get at Cold Stone Creamery, can be wasted on some kids. Listen to this folks: my daughter's major complaint about her ice cream was it was "too choolately." "Too chocolately!" You got to be kidding me. I told my kids next time we'll just stop by Rite Aide.
On the serious side, the ice cream is to die for, but don't waste it on those who do not appreciate having your flavor mixed on the spot. The service could use a small upgrade (a wee less singing and a little more customer attention). Oh yes, don't go to Cold Stone Creamery if your intent is to dine in. You'll be lucky to get a seat. If dining in is your plan, go to Rosemary's Creamery.
