Dewars is a charming family owned business that is a real Bakersfield landmark. I waited a few years since moving to Bakersfield to try Dewar's ice cream in fear of becoming an addict. Well, now that I have tried it, I think it was a smart decision to wait. It's good stuff.

It's an old fashioned style ice cream parlor like you'd imagine in Disneyland, BUT it's the real deal. They offer an assortment of sundaes which are famous for their marshmellow topping. The Black and White is also a local favorite with layers of chocolate ice cream, marshmellow topping, vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge. It's an impressive site!

I enjoyed their English toffee ice cream with caramel and almonds. Yum! It's a lot of fun to sit at their counter while you enjoy your ice cream and watch their staff members make sundaes in front of you.

I must admit I'm not a fan of their famous chews. I don't see what makes them unique or special. To me, I don't see what the big deal that people make about them is all about.

I recommend the experience of getting an ice cream at Dewars. It really makes you feel like a kid again!

I am a Bako. native and grew up going to Dewars downtown. The ice cream is always good - the handmade candies are delicious - as usual and the number system is a MUST if you want service in a reasonable time downtown! If you want to sit and relax at Dewars, try the Northwest location at Hageman and Calloway Dr. They have tons of space inside and out. There are tables for 3 or 4 to sit inside, the traditional space at the bar, like the downtown location, and a gated area outside that has water ready for you to refill your own glass. There are umbrellas, misters for the heat and heaters for when it's cold...What more can you ask for?? Give it another try, Dewars is the best! (order a George's special...yummy!)
