I grew up in the American South.. and If you want good BBQ, stick to the locals like Mr. Tibbs - it's rare that BBQ chains get it right. The best warning sign is that you shouldn't be getting your meat soaked in sauce! Why would they have 5 different sauces to choose from and then not let you make your own decision on what you want and how much?
I'm honestly surprised that this place is always so packed. If you actually want to throw away your money, at least go through take-out instead.

My Southern husband and I really enjoyed Dave's. We thought the brisket was wonderful - easily matching some of the best I had when I lived in Texas (where they take brisket very seriously). We enjoyed the different variations of sauce - although the brisket (sorry to bring it up again) was so good it didn't need sauce. Ribs aren't my favorite type of Q but my husband thought they were above average. I guess they have fixed the service problems because our service was fine. We will definitely eat here again.

The first time my husband and I went we waited and waited for our food. When the waitress casually walked by our table she had an 'Oh!' look on her face and went to find out where our food was. She brought it out and it was COLD. We told her, she found the manager, and he didn't charge us at all for the entire meal. Plus, they threw in a chocolate brownie/ice cream dessert to go (which was horrible, actually).
On our second visit the service was better and the food pretty good. We liked the BBQ chicken sandwich, the pork ribs, the brisket sandwich. My husband didn't care for any of the sauces... said they were all too sweet.
