I have been to Heidi's 4 times now and tried 3 different sandwiches (each one I've only tried once). All of them were made on very fresh bread that is made on-site, not trucked in. Their service has always been very good and very friendly.
On my first visit, which I think was in early April (about a month or so after they opened), I tried the pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was fresh, but the meat seemed a little bland. It just needed a little bit of pepper or something. But overall, the sandwich wasn't too bad. I'll give that one another try.
On my second visit, I only had dessert. I got an Ecolar (spelling???), which had a creme filling and choclate frosting. This one's a little hard for me to explain, since it has been over a month since this visit and I've only had the Ecolar once. To me, it tasted kinda similar to one of those creme-filled donuts you get at a donut shop, but the bread wasn't quite as soft. I also had a piece of cherry pie, which was also pretty good.
The third time I went, I had a Chicken Parmesan sandwich, which is one of their hot sandwiches. It had a little bit of marinara sauce. The marinara was cold, so I asked them to heat it up a little. Without problem, they took the sandwich and heated it for me. This sandwich was very good and fresh, possibly my favorite one out of the 3 that I've tried.
On my 4th visit last Sunday, I decided to try their meatball sandwich (another hot sandwich), since I love meatball sandwiches. This one was fresh, hot, and tasty, but had very little marinara. I like mine with a good bit of marinara sauce, but not so much that it drips everywhere, though! This time I also added a bag of California "Earthquake" potato chips for $0.69 extra, which is what they charge for their other chips, too. I want to note this because the Earthquake chips come in a bag that is at least 3 or 4 times the size of their Lays and Sunchips counterparts. These chips have a very unique and salty flavor to say the least. I liked them. These chips are available at other places, too, but this was the first time I've tried them.
I will definitely be coming back. I also recommend this place to anyone who wants a good, fresh sandwich.

Heidi's is awesome. I have always gotten great service and everything I have tried has been delicious. My two favorite sandwiches are the Italian and the Cajun Turkey. Everything is always very fresh and the bread can't be beat. I don't even usually like white bread, but their butter-top white is amazing.
They have a lot of unique items to choose from, including many homemade deserts and items not found in other similar places around town. The earthquake chips are fantastic.
I love this place and look forward to my next visit.

Heidi's brings another great sandwich shop to Bakersfield. The Salmon Melt and Chicken Pamesan Sandwiches are both wonderful (These are the only two I have tried so there may be other wonderful sandwiches on their menu). They also have very good breakfast burritos. Heidi's is a great choice if you want a sandwich that is a little different.

Not only is the bread good but the meats and extra's are fresh. Large tomatos are just like they were picked. The owner and staff are great.

All I got to say is you go for the bread. It’s so good and can best be described as “goooie” when it enters your mouth. The meats and toppings are all fine and dandy but what makes this place stand out is the bread. The sandwich entered my mouth as one entity but when it hits my lips it began to break down into a delicious waterfall of taste. I hear someone’s tummy rumbling. The daunting appearance of the long line and the noise is all worth the wait and the high probability that you will catch a cold are all worth the risk for a taste of their mastering of the yeast. Now, a friend of mine sent me their initially for the cookies which were barely at par in comparison to those of Sequoia’s sugar cookies (which are also worth risking a diabetic stroke for-which I may or may not have had) but the main dish was worth the headache my mom gave me when she drove me and her ex-boyfriend there and they were fighting. On the way back home I kept some of the bread in my pocket just in case I got hungry, which I did. And you guessed it, the bread was still gooie in my pocket and delicious.

My family and I have been to Heidi's 3 times. The 1st time was a Sunday morning and we ordered 4 breakfast burritos to go......perfect food and service. The 2nd time was a week later and we ordered 2 breakfast burritos to go. The burritos were missing the potatoes, and being that we lived in Shafter, we called and spoke to one of the owners who took our name so that next time we could get 2 free breakfast burritos. About 2 weeks later. on a Sunday, we went in to do just that. They did indeed have our name, so 2 free burritos it was, and we also ordered two sandwiches and a whole berry pie. This time the burritos were missing sauce, which made for a very dry burrito, the sandwiches were supposed to have cheese, which was forgotten, and the pie had to be cut open to see which flavor it was because they didn't mark the pies. We complained about the cheese, but not the sauce or the pie. Restaurants should keep this in mind, it becomes a hassle to have to complain. Bottom line is that we will not be going back. I thought new restaurants were supposed to get better (after working all the kinks out), not worse.

This place is great. We have been four times and everytime we had a different sandwitch. Their bread is to die for and all the ingredients are first class. You really get your money''s worth. Make sure to try the carrot cake it was yummy and so moist. I highly recommend this. No comparison to any other deli sandwitch. All the employees are so friendly and efficient. Cudos to the management for training them so well. Go try it..

I've been to Heidi's once and don't see any reason to go back. We had the Italian Submarine and Cajun Turkey with Avocado. Both were average. The line was long, but moved pretty quickly. The service was adequate and given this is a new place, it's understandable that the workers are still learning the menu and what goes on the sandwiches.
The sandwiches are big, but it was mostly bread and not too much meat. In fact, we left most of the bread in the basket. Also, the Cajun turkey should have been called pain old turkey.
I don't know what's with the seating, but we sat at a booth and the table was really close to the seat (very uncomfortable) and not much breathing room.
I think the sandwiches are better at Sequoia's and tastier.

Just another sanwhich shop. Sandwhichs are huge but nothing special. Side salads tasted like what you get at the market in the tubs. Again nothing special, This is not a real deli-try Art'z in the valley for a taste of a real deli. Too bad because we need a real deli here in Bakersfield, not just another sandwhich shop

My family ate Heidi's to go last night. We had the meatball subs. Although the sandwich was so big we all ended up tossing out our second halves (we should have split them between 2 people) the taste was just average. However, the coleslaw was fantastic. We will defiantly eat there again.

Wasn't going to review Heidi's because my opinion is just average but seeing all the great reviews, I had to at least throw in one dissent. I've been to Heidi's twice, because they do have good hours for grabbing a deli sandwich in the Northwest. Here are my two experiences:
Round One:
Asked for sourdough bread, girl helping me said they were out, then asked me what sourdough looked like. I described the concept of sourdough the best I could when she proceeded to say they didn't have any again. Fine, settled on something else. Ordered the BLT and asked if I could have dijon on the sandwich. She asked me what dijon was, (at this point I was a little incredulous but kept trucking through). I explained it was like a spicy mustard. She said 'well we have spicy mustard but we don't have dijon". Btw, Dijon is listed on their menu.
She then took the spatula, put an enormous amount of dijon on top of the bacon, rubbing the spatula up and down the bacon. The spatula went right back into the container of dijon. Feel sorry for any vegetarians coming down the line after me.
Sandwich was ruined with the saturation of 'spicy mustard'.
Round Two:
Ordered a pepper sausage sandwich. Girl taking my order, a different girl, asked me twice what sandwich I was asking for. She then asked me what was on that. I told I guessed sausage and peppers. She then looked it up on a card attached to the counter and made the sandwich. Upon cutting the sandwich, over half of one side of the sandwich fell out and she threw it in the trash instead of putting it back in the sandwich.
Quality:
The sandwiches by themselves are good but they're not five star. Five star to me denotes top quality ingredients in fantastic taste blends. These are sandwiches I'd expect to get at any chain restaurant. It's an okay sandwich place that will probably improve vastly with time. My experiece was negative based on service and that is opening jitters I'm sure.
I'll try them again just for convenience sometime in the future.

Reponse to "tootall"
I work at Heidi's and I just wanted to mention that the booths we have are adjustable, designed so they can fit irregular people, all shapes and sizes. So next time if you may, ask one of us to come adjust it for you.
Also look for the new "Lemon-Berry Smoothie" at Heidi's. Made with lemonade instead of apple juice, combined with Strawberries, Blueberries, and Raspberries. =D

I had the eggplant parmesan sandwich on white bread, and wow...it was fantastic. The bread is baked fresh daily, and they slice the bread directly from the loaf. There was a line to the door, yet the employees were still friendly and helpful. My mom had a chef salad (which was massive), and she said it was really good. My brother-in-law had some sort of Italian sandwich, and it must have been good because he ate the whole thing.
The prices were more than fair for the portions they serve. I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say the booths are too small. All four of us were able to sit comfortably at a table. If you can't fit into the tables, it's your fault--lose some weight or something. And you can start losing weight here at Heidi's Brooklyn Deli by getting a salad instead of a fatty sandwich!!
When I'm on this side of town again, I will be stopping by for another outstanding sandwich.
