I've eaten here a few times, and every time, the food has been spot-on. I tried the buffet for the first time this week, and for a very reasonable $7, you are invited to a number of items, all of which are tasty. I'm not sure if the naan was included with the buffet, but they kept bringing it. By the way, the naan is really, really good.
If you are going to order off the menu, I'd order anything that has mushrooms in it. I don't know where they get their mushrooms, but they are the most delectable mushrooms I've ever eaten. Furthermore, my water glass was never empty--a sure sign of attentive service.

Being of Indo-American descent, I grew up eating traditional home-cooked Indian food. In college, I often joked w/ friends (of non indian descent) that they didn't know the difference between good Indian food or warmed over crap. They often referred to places that served the blandest and least fresh food their fav Indian restaurant. In Bakersfield, Taj Mahal has been serving decent Indian food for almost two decades, but now a new serious contender has emerged- Delhi Palace. Delhi Palace-is good Indian food.
The owner, "Paul", is friendly, as well as most of the staff. They have a bar and an ambviance that is missing at Taj Mahal. The thing that irks me most about Taj Mahal is the lack of atmosphere; this place has some personality, as well as well prepared dishes w/ attention to freshness & quality.
I highly recommend Delhi Palace to someone trying Indian food for the first time, or seasoned (pun intended) fans of the cusine.

I went to this place recently on a Friday night w/ my family. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of smoke from the bar. Once we were seated, the smell from the bar and the noise coming from was terrible. The food was nice, the somosas were good, and tandoori chicken was good. One thing that didn't make too much sense was having to order rice separately and nan was not included. These items had to be ordered. The food was good but if I go back, it will be probably be at lunch for the buffet, when the noise isn't so loud.

I used to be think the other Indian restaurant down the street was the best, but now there's a new chief in town. The service at Delhi Palace is friendly and attentive and the food is outstanding.
Pete Tittl just didn't order the right food when he tried this place or he would have given it a better rating. The samosas (appetizer), tandoori chicken, chicken tikki masala (which has the best sauce), okra ,and of course the onion kulcha and cheese naan are all of my favorites. The lamb korma and chana masala are tasty as well. Note, the first time I was here, they served the tandoori chicken as an appetizer. I prefer it served with the rest of the food.
It's best to go with a big group and order and number of items to share. Then, you'll get to find your own favorites.
