I must say I was pleasently surprised with my dining experience here. My wife and I where a little worried when it was just us and two couples in the huge dining area. Service was good, should be when there is only 3 tables to wait on. They have several dishes with a "pepperjack sauce" which peaked my curiosity. I decided on the carne asada traditional plate with the pepperjack sauce on top. The steak was on a bed of mexican potatos and grilled onions and bellpeppers. Very tasty. Rice and beans where like every other mexican restaurant in town, nothing too spectacular, but good. My wife settled for a bowl of chicken soup with lime juice and a mexican style shrimp cocktail. She said the soup was ok and she liked the shrimp coctail. Not my thing so I didn't try it. I didn't have the opportunity to meet the owner, but the other posts indicate he is very much involved in this venture. I would reccommend this restaurant and I look forward to going back and trying the pepperjack chicken enchiladas.

I have been to Camino Real about five times..and everytime I go I walk out with a smile on my face and a stomach full of wonderful food!
When I first walked in the resterant was huge, clean and elegant.I love the look they have, it is historical with the missions..and the amazing painting and who can forget the warm filling being greeded by the hostess with a cute smile making me feel welcome...All the servers are great making sure everything is going well and checking up on my table...I have had the orange chicken burrito excelent! and the So Cal burrito..I have had the Camino Real sampler..and all were to die for.
Trying not to fill myself up to leave room for desert a many to choose from...I have tried the fried ice cream, and OG brownie very delicous..
I very much enjoy when the owner comes to talk with me and my husband getting our opinions and telling us about his dreams and aspirations..its nice to know how welcome we are at Camino Real...From my eyes all the employs try hard to please everyone, I do observe. I think they are doing a wonderful job their is no place in Bakersfield like Camino Real!!

You know youre in the right mexican restaurant when the chips and salsa are so good and fresh! i must admit i was a bit scared to go to a new mexican eatery but hands down best food in town no doubt about it. The menu is wonderful and so many choices i had the relleno stuffed with grilled tilapia and shrimp best ever. You need to see the decor so different than others and very charming. The service was perfect was helped by one of the owners he mentioned it was a local family owned restaurant he pointed out his mom and brothers which by the way gets confusing brothers look alike.Anyhow must try best food best service..........hands down.

Went at 1pm on a Friday for lunch with a friend. We both had the buffet (though she had planned to order off the menu until she actually saw the buffet). We were both happily impressed with the food. Of note: the white enchiladas, the chicken al pastor, the chicken lime soup (very yummy) and the flan. I just LOVED the salsa! Service was quite attentive: we were helped by several people. Another good point: the owner's son is a cutie!
