KC steakhouse is not living up to their obvious potential. While I'm sure the restaurant has a tremendous following and many years of successful operation, I was unimpressed with the lack of attention to detail.
The Good:
1. We were seated promptly and the teamwork amongst the hostess/cocktailer/waitstaff created a very carefree experience.
2. The atmosphere (as I'm sure many of you already know) is excellent and I enjoyed sitting next to the indoor fireplace.
3. The efficiency of the service was impeccable.
The Bad:
1. We opted to bring our own bottle of wine, something we do only on special occasions, and were horrified to watch the waitress practically ruin a very special vintage. With the grace of a bull-moose she begins to pierce the cork without cutting away the top of the foil and violently rips the stopper upwards creating a jagged mess of aluminum above and around the bottle opening. She then proceeds to poor a unique and rare bottle of wine through the shards of aluminum into dirty wine glasses. My wife was in utter shock.
2. My entree prepared contrary to the menu descriptions. My lamb chops came smothered in garlic and devoid of the mint jelly that was very clearly advertised in the menu. Individuals who eat lamb understand that this is almost unforgivable.
3. Both my wife's fillet and my lamb were unmistakeably top quality cuts of meat but were ruined through improper preparation methods. My wife asked for her fillet to be prepared medium-rare, which typically calls for the chef to quickly mark/sear the steak on a hot grill and then place it on a flat iron and into a hot oven to evenly cook. This fillet was over-seared and undercooked. It felt as if the chef had little experience, or was just inattentive.
I feel as if this may have just been an "off" night for this establishment. I was impressed with the level of service and the quality of ingredients but the lack of attention to detail disappointed us greatly.
