This is a nice coffee shop.  I took my wife here for breakfast yesterday and we both enjoyed our meal.  The portions were very generous, the food was good, and the service extremely polite and friendly.  I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

No, it's true, Lorene's is not the best restaurant in town and doesn't serve the best food in town. But they are a good coffee shop and usually serve a good coffe shop meal. They usually beat the coffee shop chains for quality and quantity. Tonight I had a sirloin and scallops special, and both the 6 oz sirloin and the half dozen mid-size sea scallops were very good. The steak was cooked past the medium rare I ordered, but was still tender and juicy and tasty. The navy bean soup was good comfort food. My wife had the chicken fried steak dinner and likewise enjoyed her meal. When you want a basic American menu with food done in a good old fashioned coffee shop style, Lorene's is one of the better choices in Bakersfield.
