Consider yourself Old Bakersfield? Luigi's is a must if you're pursuing that iconic definition.
Luigi's is my constant standby for a delicious, high quality ingredient sandwich. I'm a sandwich guy. If I could date a good sandwich, I would. Luigi's has two of my favorite sandwiches in town:
#1: The Luigi Sandwich
Varieties of salami and ham with mustard and salsa, onions all on a hard Pyranees roll. Somehow manages to leave you feeling satisfied, full and still that freshness as if you'd just eaten a salad.
#2: The Steak Sandwich (only available Saturdays)
This steak sandwich is seasoned fantastically and is dripping with pepper jack cheese between a Pyranees soft roll. Absolutely phenomenal. They sell out of these early, so hop on that action asap on Saturday. They open at 11, have your order in at 11.
Both are available by phone order and pickup in the Deli next door. This is a dream option on Saturday, when the restaurant itself is packed with madness. I usually call in my order, stroll through the masses waiting for tables, pick up my sandwiches, a pepsi and meat sauce for pasta later. (Sidenote: if you haven't used their jarred meat sauce, start. Easy dinner, fantastic taste. Great secret for date night).

WE LOVE LUIGI'S!
We usually end up going for lunch and it is quite a tasty lunch. It is pretty busy during lunch but when you step in their be prepared to go back in time. The memories on the walls are great to look at. The food is very consistet. Try their sandwiches, all great, but of course pasta and noodles are very good.
I love their little bread, cheese, pepper, sandwiches too. That bread is tasty and a good little appetizer.

I love this place. It's more than the food; it's the atmosphere, the history and overall good times that are had here. The wait might be long (I usually come in parties of 12 to 20 people), but it's worth it (especially if they don't run out of the daily specials).
The baby back ribs and New York steaks on Fridays and Saturdays are the best. I never know which one to order. Sometimes, there are Fillets (not on menu). My favorite is the toast and onions (Saturdays only) which are a good substitution for the hard/soft roll and nothing beats the Giovanna's salad (I love their candied walnuts). If you have room for desert, the Butterfingers pie is delicious.
I've always experienced good, friendly service from the hostesses and servers (especially Gidgit). If you lucky enough to sit in Nancy's section, you even get a back rub. Margo (the bartender) can have her friendly moments too (well, that doesn't happen too often), but you always get a generous pour and she works the bar like she owns it (which for the regulars, she does).
