I'll try to make this review concise and spare everyone the more comical details of what I will summarize as a $120 trip to Denny's.
1. Wine list was basic and overrated and my first two selections were not in stock.
2. The cheese and fruit plate appetizer arrived devoid of fruit and without the waitress presenting the names of the cheeses (big no-no).
3. Waitress sheepishly admitted that the chef had forgotten to include borson, my favorite cheese, for no reason.
4. Waitress arrives manhandling our wine glasses around the bowl virtually nullifying any attempts to appreciate to visual qualities/characteristics of our selections.
5. Wine was obviously old.
6. When the entrees arrive, waitress again admits that the kitchen had omitted an item belonging to the meal because the chef had, "already thrown it out today."
7. Sweet potato fries were unmistakably old and most likely recycled from the lunch hours.
To their credit, my steak was prepared to perfection and the presentation of our entrees was above average. These bright spots, however, do not salvage the experience for me.
It takes more than linens on the table and a pleasant entrée presentation to justify such steep menu pricing. McGee’s is a pretender among the fine dining establishments in Bakersfield.
