Returned on a Tuesday night. There were two large parties (18 people downstairs; unknown number upstairs.) I'd seen recent reviews that supposed the place was slipping, so when nobody greeted us at the door I thought we were in for a disappointing night. A couple more glitches (the candle was not lit before we found our menu order in the dark) and things began to pick up. They really do know how to prepare a steak. A good deal of others in town are less consistent. The chocolate souffle was fine. The waiter did forget my coffee, which - for whatever reason - I really like to have to close out a meal.
But when the rubber meets the road, we go there for quality steak and seafood, and that's what we received. Also, we never waited for anything (that they remembered to serve in the first place). Drinks were refilled, our meal came out on time and hot, despite the large parties they also needed to serve. The staff were friendly.
They're clearly still working out some persistent bugs. Going there reminds me the restaurant busines can be very hard, and I guess I don't care to be reminded of that when I'm putting out $100 for 2 before drinks. But it is better food that Chili's (which isn't bad either), and on the Bakersfield bell curve, I still like McGees.

The set up is strange. You have the dinner tables on one side and the dance floor on the other. If you are having dinner, you are literally right there on top of the music. Honestly, it almost gave us a headache.

After hearing all they hype we tried it. Our waitress couldn't care less that we were even there but it was probably due to the woman manager disciplining the staff in front of tables. The food was below average and the price well above what real quality should cost. Had they been impressive, we would have gone again but as is, not a chance.

I ate there when it first opened and the food, service and ambiance were great and well worth the prices I paid. I went back there two weeks ago and the only thing I enjoyed was the wine. The service was poor and the food was worse. It was easy to tell that there was either new owner or management or both. I will not go back there until someone tells me it has improved tremendously!
