I've taken my wife and friends to this restaurant several times. It's not fancy, the menu is simple, but the food and service are great. This is difinitely a restaurant that you have to try yourself.

We went on a Friday night at 7:00 p.m. there was a couple leaving and we asked how the food was.  They told us that the restaraunt was out of Crab Legs (their specialty) so they left.  Strike one, the atmostphere was very plain.  I had the fish and chips, the fries were so salty I couldn't eat them and the fish had no real taste to it.  My boyfriend had the Catfish and Okra.  The okra had no seasoning and the catfish was soggy, strike two.  We won't be going back.  Fish Lips or Westchester Bowl is where we'll be going if we want a good fish dinner from now on.

Getting to this place is quite the adventure. It's off Real Road just south of California in the back of Days Inn (next to the Regency bowling alley). Avoid further disorientation by entering through the door to the RIGHT. The one to the left says "pull" -- but there's no handle to pull. A good trick :)

Once inside, the decor is fabulously fishy. I recommend sitting at the bar! A fun surprise for the first-timer is the big basket of yummy hushpuppies brought out with tarter sauce and a perfectly spicy cocktail sauce. Our server said they're on the house! Just like when a restaurant serves bread, or chips and salsa, before a meal.

My friend and I both ordered the fish and chips. Don't be shy to ask for malt vinegar — they'll bring you some from the back. While I enjoyed my meal, the fish was a bit overcooked and the fries were a bit soggy. Of course, my favorite fish and chips can be found at Westchester Bowl!

I do plan to return to this restaurant to try their clam chowder (which their web site professes is better than at Pismo Beach) and their crab legs — but at night when I can have a couple of beers too!
