This is by far one of my favorite Italian restaurants in kern County. My favorite dish has to be the cheese tortellini with alfredo and marinara sauce on it. Very very good. I have tried the pizza which is amazing, and also the calzones. Advice, their calzone is so big two people can share it! They are affordable and its a nice setting. The only thing that isn't great about it is they are usually understaffed. Most of the time it is one waitress who is tending everyone, but she still does a great job.

From the people, to the food, to the drive, to the atmosphere, there isn't anything at Giovanni's that is not a 5 star experience. I grew up on Chicago style stuffed pizza, began making my own when I moved from Chicago, and would tolerate anything to be able to purchase an authentic one in Kern County. So given how right on target Giovanni's stuffed pizza is, you'd think that would be the most satisfying part of my experience.
But I have been blown away by how friendly, interesting, conscientious and helpful the owners and staff at Giovanni's were. They have a Thai menu, too, which is remarkably odd and convenient, given my wife much prefers Thai to stuffed pizza. The owners are the most engaging people. They were more than happy to tell me how to make an authentic Thai Ice Tea at home. Given my taste for stuffed pizza, they accomodated all kinds of suggestions to make mine just the way I wanted.
Giovanni's takes the basic concept you'll find at say, Jimenos, and adds italian herbs and spices, a more flavorful (Olive oil?) crust, and a better sauce. They also prepared my order in less than half the time it took Jimeno's, making the additional drive negligible.
Please, Giovanni's open for Saturday lunch.

A friend of mine invited me to Giovanni's. When we got there the restaurant was full. But it didn't take too long before our meal was served. I ordered the meatball lasagna and the serving was huge! The flavor and aroma was mouth watering. I can't believe I finish all that food. The next evenning I took my family for dinner. I tried their shrimp scampi, my husband ordered the ribeye dinner and my children shared the Chicago deep dish pizza. I can not believe how rich and creamy their shrimp scampi taste. My husband really enjoyed his steak. He had to go into the kitchen and asked how the steak was cooked. The chef show my husband that the steak was seared in a 600 degree oven. What an amazing idea! I couldn't resist their Chicago pizza I had to order another one so I can take to work. The owners and their staff did a really wonderful job cooking and the service was very welcomed.

Last Saturday my father suggest we go to Shafter for Italian food. I am really selective when it comes to Italian food and especially on my 39th birthday. I never thought Shafter has Italian restaurant. The restaurant looked cozy and kind of cute (reminds me of southern Italy). The waitress was so prompt to bring us our menu and bread. I think they just baked the bread loaves because it's so fresh and smelled so good. I love the olive oil on the table. It has such an aroma to it. I can just eat loaves and olive oil but I settled for their "Famous Lasagna". The taste was like "WOW!" My family, especially my husband loved the garlic chicken calzone he had to order it to go for his lunch. We tasted each other's food and it seems as if you can't go wrong with whatever you order. I will definitely come to Giovanni's next week and have their carrot cake and have Chicago stuffed pizza.
