We have been going to this restaurant for years, and it has always been very good. We often share entrees for dinner - the Mu Shu Pork or Chicken is one of our favorites. The lunches are delicious and inexpensive. It's always quiet here since it is in the NE portion of Bakersfield. Service is always quick and the food is always fresh. I took my extended family here and they were very impressed with everything we ordered. Most of Bakersfield does not know what they are missing!
As so much time has passed since I last visited PekingPalace, and now that eastbound Highway 178 is open to the Fairfax exit and there is no road construction or detour on Auburn, my companions and I decided it was the perfect time to make the trek. It was as good as we remembered.
The quality of the food is high, and has been consistently so over its twenty years in Bakersfield. Past reviews agree. If memory serves, it was officially voted the best Chinese restaurant last year by The Bakersfield Californian’s food critic.
For good reason. The menu is extensive, offering a variety of Chinese dishes for lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. Our favorite lunch specials were the Mongolian Beef, Honey Walnut Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken and the daily special. The dinner menu is also worth considering for lunch. Our favorites from this menu were the Peking Prawns, Orange Chicken, Pad Thai Prawns and Mango Chicken. Do not forget to try the incredibly spicy combo noodle soup.
Traditional ambience abounds, friendly and polite servers await you, great food, plus an owner who really cares. Yes, this is definitely a place everyone should try. PekingPalace rocks. Best place for Chinese food hands down.
Last July I was passing by Bakersfield for a business trip. I ordered potstickers and the Happy Family for my dinner. The potstickers were incredibly delicious. They were the best potstickers I had ever had.
After the dinner, I asked the chef Steve how to judge the quality of potsticker. He simply replied that crispy wrap and smooth filling were the key factors. I mentioned to him that the potstickers were browned only one side, instead of being browned all around like fried wontons. He explained that was the authentic way to cook potstickers to keep them crispy and juicy. The all around browned poststickers were prepared for mass production or fast-food business.
Thanks Steve, I miss your potstickers and will come back again for them.

I wanted a quick meal yesterday and was craving Chinese food as well. The Peking Palace on Auburn in the northeast was a valid option. The new owner Paul is enthusiastic and friendly. Peking Palace has always been a solid restaurant in my opinion but now it is even better with new menu items. As soon as I sat down one of the servers brought hot tea, water and wontons. That was quick. I ordered from the new luncheon menu which is quite diverse. The server was patient in describing the items to me, their preparation, asking if I wanted more or less spicy and so on. The food arrived promptly and the prices are quite reasonable. Beware the portions are quite large so bring your appetite and dig in. All in all, I enjoyed my meal and will return again soon.
Peking Palace's Response:
Thank you for writing your review and we are determined to serve you with the best in every possible way. However, there is always room for improvement. Our management team would honor and appreciate any positive input or constructive criticism you may have.
sincerely yours,
Paul & Steven
