I was very lukewarm about this place. There were many positive elements--there was a sign in the window with a pair of glasses that had been left by a customer letting him or her know that they still had them. The staff was really friendly. The place was clean. They have soft crushed ice for the drinks, and that's really awesome.
It's not like I had to wait a really long time for the sandwich, but I thought it was going to be faster. They brought me my sandwich, and it was wrapped up and hot. But I opened it...and opened it...and opened it...and when I finally got to the sandwich, I realized that there was more paper than sandwich! I don't have a huge appetite or anything, but good lord! The sandwich was just a snack! I couldn't believe I paid $7.50 for it! I was somewhat tempted to go up there and ask, "Where's the rest of it?" But I didn't, because as I mentioned before, they were too nice. Besides, the sandwich was really good. But I can't get over the fact that I paid so much for so little.
I'll probably try this place again soon because of its convenient downtown location. But if they are skimpy with my next sandwich, and if there is more paper than sandwich, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

The look of the place is welcoming and the staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. I ordered the pastrami and a slice of chocolate cake. The cake was everything a deli chocolate cake should be - moist, rich with thick frosting. But the pastrami had very little meat, no cheese, no mustard and no pickle. It was four thin slices inside a dry bun. Now, many places skimp on the girth of their sandwiches, but top deli's have no excuse for doing this. The meat should be sliced deli thin and piled high. There's is sliced a little too thick and piled low.
I don't see how Popi's can end up wth higher reviews than Sequoia, which while not perfect, has the basics of a deli sandwich down. Or even SubStation a little closer to Chester, where they serve a fantastic pastrami.
