I like the 40 year old decor, I think it would have been a great place to have gone 20 years ago. I've never had "egg rolls" deep fried like that... still not sure I liked it but if you like deep fried bacon..and liver...welcome to heaven. I can't say anything bad about the place, but it isn't for me.

I have been going to Rice Bowl for as long as I can remember (at least 1963) and have always loved it. Try the Helen's fried chicken if you aren't afraid of an instant heart attack. My boyfriend LOVES the egg foo yong.
Lately though I have been disappointed. Our last visit we had a buy one get one free meal coupon and I almost felt guilty getting off so cheaply, so I ordered an extra side of General Tao's (Tso's) chicken. Since we filled up on our regular meals, I took most of it home. I tried reheating it, but it was so salty and soggy and I couldn't even find hardly any chicken, it was almost all breading and sauce. I had to throw it out. I hope it was just an off night for the cook.
Also, the last time a group of us went for lunch from work, my coworker asked for a refill of soda. He was told if he wanted more soda he would have to pay for another one! I never order soda because I think it's ridiculous to pay $1.50-$2.50 for a few ounces of soda over a full glass of ice, but to refuse refills is even worse. Their glasses aren't even that large, perhaps 20 oz, so he couldn't have had more than 5 or 6 oz.

It is okay. Not the best Chinese food but it has been around for many years. Always great service and friendly people.

The hot and sour is very unique, tasty and worth the drive. The orange chicken is exceptional as well. I have to concur with the need for decor updating suggestion. The help could also stand to put a smile on their faces. The chow mein needs some serious flavor because the steamed vegetable taste is pretty overpowering. My current game plan is to pick up the soup at this place, the chow mein at Bill Lee's and take everything home. For a complete and satisfying meal, head over to Great Castle.
