Executive Chef and Owner Paul Hurd opened Hourglass Kitchen & Bar in the spring of 2008, with a vision of fusing the flavors of Bakersfield's diverse communities with tried and true American food favorites to create the finest dining experience. Chef Hurd infuses every dish he creates with his extensive knowledge and passion for perfection.
At a young age, Paul Hurd had a strong interest in cooking. To further that interest, he prepared dishes for his family, experimenting with various culinary styles. He honed his skills, learning the business, working at local Bakersfield restaurants, and created quite an eclectic menu. However, Hurd never lost sight of his passion for fine dining. He knew that in order to create the dishes he wanted to share with the world, using only the freshest ingredients available, he would have to establish his own restaurant. Chef Hurd opened the doors of Hourglass Kitchen & Bar in the spring of 2008. Before he created his first dish, he vowed to only use the finest ingredients, and prepare each dish with an infusion of passion and creativity. Critics have been raving ever since.
