I've been there once and the service was great and the food was good. However, I wouldn't call it authentic Thai food like some of the reviewers are saying. It's more Thai influenced.
The server (Danielle) did a great job explaining the menu items and when asked made some suggestions. The food was good, but I'm not sure if it's worth the price. For $22, I had the pork chops with risotto. There were two thin pork chops and a tiny amount of risotto. Both were tasty, but one of the chops was on the tough side. We also tried the Mac N Cheese. It was very rich (from the 5 cheeses); however, the menu said truffles and lobster, but there were only specs of truffles and only a piece or two of lobster. Again, the portion was very small.
The atmosphere was impressive and stylish. I really liked the rock wall with water falling and unusual light fixtures. Overall, I gave a 3 due to the price and lack of quantity. For half the price, the Thai House gives you more food the is actual Thai cuisine.

Visited The Orchid for lunch with my dad. Was seated immediately. The decor is modern, and has a cool feeling. We ordered the shrimp rolls as an appetizer, and he ordered the roasted duck curry, and I ordered the Mac & Cheese. The shrimp rolls were brought out very quickly, meaning they were quick dropped off on our table, without a word from the server, and with no appetizer plates. The flavor was OK, but not as flavorful as I would have expected. A salad was included, and did not have enough dressing to flavor the greens. When we received our entrees, I was expecting great things from the Mac & Cheese, as it is made with lobster and truffles. Unfortunately, again, there was no real flavor. The sauce tasted like a cornstarch base. There were also small spring rolls which came with the lunch, with no flavor at all, except for a greasy taste. For the price and expectation set by the surroundings, I must say I was very dissapointed.

We ate at this restaurant on Saturday night around 7 p.m. There was no wait and the staff was friendly. It's a beautiful place, a little loud, but still nice to look at. My husband had the coconut shrimp (they serve two for $6) and he couldn't stop raving about how wonderful they were. He also had their Riesling and really enjoyed that too. I had the crispy spring rolls (six for $4), they were tasty, nothing amazing, but no complaints here. For our entrees my husband had the mango chicken. It was yummy for sure, but nothing special. I had the Basil Chili Spaghettini. Our server warned me that it was spicy, which was perfect for me! My husband and I enjoyed that entree soooo much, except, I couldn't detect one bit of spice in it. But it was delicious all the same! The only reason this gets 4 stars is for service. Our service was terrible, but our server was a bit chatty with everyone (not in a good way) and so it would take her awhile to get our ticket, clear our plates, bring refills.. etc. Anyway, we'll definitely be back!

It is about time Bakersfield finally have decent Thai restaurant. I have been eathing once a week at this restaurant since the opening. Food is authentic Thai with very contempo atmoshpere. If you want to experience and taste real Thai food, you should try their food. In the beginning, I was not pleased with the customer service, however, it got better every time I visit the store and I am very pleased with the service I receive. In fact, the waitress who serves me everytime, never wavered in customer service.
