I was surprised to walk into Toro since it has a more upscale, metro atmosphere than I'd expect in a Bakersfield Sushi joint. We ordered a series of rolls, my favorite being the Shrimp tempura and the lobster rolls. They tasted fresh and yummy. I also enjoyed their edamame and miso soup starter.
Our service was great and the price seemed average for sushi. For 2 people drinking and getting totally stuffed, our bill was around $65.
I recommend you give this place a try the next time you're in the mood for sushi!

The thing that will keep me away is the service. We were completely ignored with the exception of order taking. The food was served by a bus boy kind of person. We were not offered a second beer. In fact, I was not even offered a drink when I got there, I took my husband's and he had to practically trip someone to get another.
The atmosphere was too posh for what they offered. The Japanese fast food place across the market place sells comparable food for less with better service.

My sushi eating friends drew me to this place. I am not a big fish/sushi eater so I was pleased to find a menu full of other options. I had a crispy chicken salad and was intrigued with the mustard looking dressing that was on the side. Yummm. I will try a little of everything especially when my friends are ooohing and ahhing at things, hence a taste of the spicy tuna roll that left me wanting more, not fishy at all.
Needless to say, I took my husband there a week later and he enjoyed it. If the prices were more reasonable, I would probably make it a habit. The service was great both times. Definitely a place for a girl’s night out or a date night.

Toro Sushi is a quality restaurant with a decent location nestled in the back of the Marketplace (away from all of the annoying little kids). I found the sushi to be of decent quality, but not the best that I have had in Bakersfield. All of the food at Toro comes very well presented, and the decor seems to be ordered entirely from the Pier 1 catalog (as was noticed by my friend who worked at Pier 1). The food seemed a bit on the expensive side compared to Miyoshi Sushi, which in my opinion, has higher quality food.
Toro's saving grace is it's happy hour prices, which offer all appetizers at half off, spicey tuna rolls at discounted prices, and premium beers for $3 and well drinks for $4. The tempura vegetable appetizer I had was very good. However, I was quite disappointed by their unagi (eel) which had a leathery texture which I was not expecting. I much prefer Miyoshi's unagi, which is probably less expensive as well.
So if you are looking for a place to take a girl on a nice date, Toro might be the place to go. The decor and atmosphere create for a pleasant dining experience, but if you are looking to just have some good sushi with some friends - come at happy hour, or better yet, go to Miyoshi on the other side of CSUB.
