i used to volunteer at elaines to complete skill hours required for culinary school, unfortunately i had to leave do to a very personal tragedy anyways i was reading reviews and came across one by a "dorthy34" i thnk thats it, i cant believe how completly false and rude her review was. elaines does not store food on the floor i know because i worked in the kitchen and the place is not a "dump" tim (the owner) did all the remodeling and so the place was under construction a lot that doesnt make it a dump. elaines is not good because it is the only vegan restaraunt its good because tracy is a very good cook and she is very creative. the food is excellent and oh god i miss the icecream! elaines will do well, if u havent checkd it out then u have to its great, good food, good service and a great environment

Today I met two of my girlfriends at Elaines just to try it out. I am new to being vegan and I was so impressed with the freshness of the food and the customer service. The owners were so friendly and didn't have any problem chatting with us about items on the menu and other vegetarian/vegan topics. My experience at Elaines was wonderful, and I plan on coming back often. Finally Bakersfield has a Vegan friendly restaurant!

So i wanted to know what all the ranting and raving was about... so i went in to check it out... i think that the only reason people like this place is because it is the ONLY vegan restaurant in bakersfield. If there was another one i highly Elaine's Cafe would still be open. The place is run down, they store food to be prepped in there display cases, the base boards on the wall are falling off, the chairs and tables don't match, the front counter is a disaster, the floors look like they've never been cleaned, they store food on the FLOOR in boxes!... as far as the food goes it was stuff i could have bought at lassens or trader joes and made at my house.. i go out to eat so that i can enjoy something that i wouldnt make or dont have the time to make. i wonder if these people have ever even worked in a restaurant.. the owners were friendly but thats about all they got going for them. I think all the excitement about Elaine's is ONLY based off the fact that everyone expects vegan food to be icky then when its not they are like "wow elaine's is great" so yeah this place is a dump and the food sucks.

I try to get to Elaine's once or twice a week for lunch. This food is fresh, tasty and made by the nicest people on the planet. I always feel happy and energized after enjoying Tracey and Co.'s homemade delights. And the place is unfailingly clean and welcoming.
I'm guessing the person who commented on the coleslaw had perhaps never seen purple cabbage....? Good stuff! It grows that way, by the way.
I am rather fond of the taco salad. My husband really likes the roasted red pepper sandwich. We do enjoy sampling the whole menu, of course. And the vegan ice cream is remarkable! Dang, how'd they get that creamy sweet concoction from cashews...??
Not sure anybody's mentioned the bakery yet. Seriously good, folks. As a lacto--vegetarian myself (meaning, yes to milk products, no to eggs) I rarely get to eat cupcakes I don't bake myself. And I hardly ever bake. Anyway, I had developed a strong yearning for one, after seeing the popularity of cupcake bakeries. No more. Elaine's bakery features an assortment of most excellent cupcakes: German Chocolate (my fave), regular chocolate, dark chocolate with JoJo cookies embedded... oh, and vanilla and other no doubt wonderful flavors. There are also cookies, mini fresh fruit upside down cakes, fruit bars, and...okay, enough for this review. You're just going to have to go try for yourself.
