My boyfriend and I have gone to Elaine's twice, once during the week and once on a weekend. The food is AWESOME!! Even if you are not a vegan, or vegetarian, give this a try.The first time we went I had the BBQ which has GREAT homemade slaw and a good BBQ sauce, and my BF had the tacos, which have good al pastor seasoning and guacamole.
On the weekend they have the burger bar and chili, which is so good you can't tell it's meatless.
We received complimentary ice cream on our first visit, and both opted for the pumpkin, which was out of this world good. Really, it stopped me midsentence, and that is rare.
Tracy and her husband are so nice and friendly. We will be coming back again.
P.S. My kids are PICKY...and they loved the chili too, and no, we are not vegan :)

I've been into Elaine's twice now and the husband-wife owners are very friendly and curious to know about their patrons. They must have stopped by our table 5 times each during my first lunch there.
The sandwiches were good, although there could have been a lot more between the bread. We ordered the BLAT (soy bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) and the roasted red pepper with tofu sandwiches. What I tasted most was bread, good bread, but mouthfuls of bread. My favorite part of the meal was the lemon rice soup. It was delicious!
On my second visit, I got a cup of maple pecan ice cream (soy based). It was soooo yummy. I will now split my afternoon ice cream trips between Spotlight and Elaine's.
The restaurant is pricey for what you get, however. I would rather buy a fat grilled eggplant sandwich at Big Popy's for the same price as the flat roasted red pepper sandwich at Elaine's.

Elaine's has a very relaxed and welcoming vibe. It is like you are visiting a friend's home and they tell you to kick back and make yourself comfortable. This may be because the owners are very gracious and friendly. The food is not too bad either.
I had the Red Pepper sandwich with kalamato olives, spinach, and mock blue cheese washed down with the Rose Tea. I was quite impressed and satiated. They do have a fairly small menu, but I take that to mean they have mastered each item. And I'm eager to start checking them off.
I have discovered the joys of vegan goodness and will be returning promptly! Be sure to order the Rose Tea. It's pretty great.
