I enjoy going to Connie's, I shift from favorites every time I go, right now I'm all about the Red Velvet, some other favorites are cinnamon, and I never tire of the Chocolate Attack. It's important to note that they encourage you to call in advance if you want a particular flavor as they don't bake all their flavors every day. They do offer to have your flavor ready if you call in advance. I also enjoy the calm atmosphere. I will be returning for my sweet tooth attacks!

The owner's idea is a good one. The bakery is clean and neat. There is an area to sit outside as well as inside, but the assorted options for what kinds they offer are few (I guess we were just expecting more kinds) Also the 2 cupcakes that we had bought were old. When my husband and I bit into ours the frosting was stiff, and the cupcakes tasted as if it had been sitting there for days. Perhaps we may have just been handed an old batch, but we will not be going back any time soon.

Cupcakes seem to be the new "in" thing, capitalizing on a combination of childhood nostalgia, the illusion of portion control (it's just a cupcake!), and, heck, just the fun of it all. Who doesn't like cupcakes? The big-city craze for gourmet cupcakes in a plethora of flavor and frosting combinations has hit Bakersfield in recent months, and now there are several places in town that specialize in the treat.
Connie's is the latest arrival on the scene, and I only stumbled on it recently because I was driving up H St. to work and saw their sign on the corner. I had to stop in--and now, I've been their twice. Both times, I got an assortment of their mini cupcakes ($1 each except for the cheesecake ones) to go, the first time for my co-workers, who loved them, and this time, I'm taking them to a family get-together. The kids are gonna flip, I know it.
I've had the chocolate chip and nut cookie one and the oreo cheesecake one (I just downed that in the car on the way back to the office), and both were really good. And did I mention that the minis are a buck each? (Again, the cheesecakes are more.) There are ginormous full-sized cupcakes, of course, and coffee and other drinks, but these mini ones are a great sampling size at a great price.
The shop is cheerily painted, with some cafe-style seating, and the staff are super-friendly. I'm definitely coming back, and I can't wait to try some other flavors.
