The Hungry Hunter is a very attractive restaurant. The help staff seems willing and able. Service was good, and wait time quite acceptable. The food just doesn't live up to everything else about the place. The menu prices are consistent with a steakhouse type meal. We most recently dined there before 6:00 p.m. when they have an early bird "discount" menu. Don't expect to pay much less than $15/meal (plus any beverage) even with the early hour.
Hungry Hunter specializes in prime rib, and their's is as good as anyone's, very typical prime rib. I find it hard to get excited about meat that is very tender, but needs horse radish or dipping sauce to give it any flavor. Most recently I had their ground sirloin steak, which is 16 oz of sirloin ground and grilled to order with sauteed mushrooms and onions. The mushrooms and onions were served on top of the meat, which was cooked medium, exactly as ordered, but unfortunately were completely dry. The combination was OK, but certainly not a reasonable $15 meal, except that there was plenty of it. I chose the mashed potatoes, and they were very disappointing. Hungry Hunter's mashed potatoes are made with red potatoes, skin on. The result is to waxy, too earthy, with an unpalatble texture and unsatisfactory flavor. I couldn't identify exactly what they had been seasoned with, but didn't care for it. More dairy and a starchier potato would have helped a lot though.
Of course the broccoli was "cooked" restaurant standard. Warmed but not cooked. The object with broccoli should be tender crisp, not warm raw. So many restaurants serve warm raw broccoli that it's hardly worth mentioning, but places that charge premium prices ought to do better.
Of course Hungry Hunter starts the meal with warm bread and sweetened butter. The bread is dark, made with molasses, and would probably be more enjoyable with plain butter. Meals include the option of a table prepared salad or a caesar or the soup of the day. The table prepared salad is probably often the highlight of the meal, with a bit of extra service and personal choices of ingredients. The salad is large enough that the meal to follow is likely to be too much for most diners. Dinner also includes sevral potato options, rice pilaf, broccoli or a seasonal vegetable.
My wife ordered chicken in a sundried tomato sauce. The chicken was tasty but dry. The sauce was good except too salty. The baked potato was OK. I wish the food measured up to the price and the effort put into creating a nice atmosphere, but it tends to fall short.
Hungry Hunter Steakhouse's Response:
Dear Cfryguy
When you last dined at Hungry Hunter we had the old corporate menu from the previous owner. Since your last visit we have changed the menu to include several new items. Interesting, we took off the two items you were unhappy with. If you could send me your address I can send you a card so you can come in and try it again. The bread and mashed potatoes are the same. If you choose the brocolli just explain how you prefer it. Most people love these items as they are, sorry. My email address is hungryhunter3580@sbcglobal.net or you can visit our web site at www.hungryhuntersteakhouse.com
Thanks for your comments.

I got the prime rib, it was good. If you're looking for a spot where you will feel like you can have a personal conversation this is a good place. The tables are set up in a way that you kind of feel like you have a little privacy. I was expecting a little better food, but it was good. It just didn't meet my expectations.
