i had the tuna burger tonight for dinner and it was delicious. i spoke with the owners about the burger, as i had read the earlier review, and they explained to me that they agreed, it was too salty with the marinade. they have now changed the way they prepare the ahi tuna burger, which your right, may be more like a sandwich, and it is great. it is topped with arugula, cucumbers and a scallion-mayo. with a delicate piece of ahi, you do not want out-of-season tomatoes to hide that.
the place is great - been there for breakfast many times. they open at 7am and have the best coffee and pastries in town. the best breakfast i have had was a biscuits and gravy plate with homemade bacon-cheddar biscuits.
they also have a great wine list - very reasonably priced and everything by the glass as well as half-bottle and bottle. and a new castle beer float - so creative. something that bako needed! i want an assigned seat at the bar!

What a great new place to eat! We've gone there three times since it opened and have been pleased each time. The inside decor is sort-of 50's diner meets the 21st century. They have sandwiches (try the Tuna Melt), salads (Arugula salad was great), and burgers (the 'Moo' burger comes in several variations... BBQ Bacon is wonderful, also the Bacon & Blue Burger... yum!). They make their own ice cream and have wonderful flavors like Peppermint Oreo, Butter Pecan (get it w/candied pecans as a topping), and Berry Sorbet. They also have a unique flavor that seems to very popular.... Bacon Love.... well, I'm not that brave yet.
Service has been good at the times we went. They mix their own sodas (instead of having one dispenser that does it for you automatically), and on one occasion my Mr Pibb didn't have enough syrup (which they fixed).
This looks like a winner to me!

I stumbled across this place located right off Truxtun down from Mohawk near Paragon Day Salon and decided to go in on a whim. Great location in central Bakersfield in a place where a quality restaurant was desparately needed (sorry Woodys'). The food (Gourmet Salads, Hot Sandwhiches, Burgers and Soups) is awesome and the ice cream is even better than that ... plus they serve beer and wine all while big flatscreens have sports on. Its hard to think of an occassion that wouldn't be suited to this restaurant. The owners and staff were so friendly that I felt compelled to spread the word.
