  • Phine's Southern Style Cooking

    5 stars from GRENSLEN

I tried Phine's for the first time last Friday, and it was a delightful experience.  The food was outstanding and the owner was charming and provided excellent service.  I'm not big on southern style cooking -- or so I thought!  The deep fried catfish was wonderful with yummy homemade tarter sauce, the black eyed peas were smoky and tender, and the peach cobbler was fresh right from the oven and heavenly!  This place is a little hidden gem and I plan to go...

  • Rocket Shop Cafe

    5 stars from Qutiepie2U

GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEATTTTTT Food, and atomsphere, especially their Karaoke Sat. Night. What fun! Their pasta is out of this world, and their sweet potatoe fries............YUMMMMMM. Chicken Enchilada Soup excellent.

  • Frosting Ink

    5 stars from nkoby3

I tried a cherry walnut cookie.  After taking a bite, had I been struck by a fifteen-ton truck, I would have died a happy man.  The cookies are un-freaking-believable.  Seriously.  They are that good.

I was given two cupcakes for my birthday by my employer. Each one's appearence made it almost too cute to eat, but I first tried the Cherry Cheesecake cupcake and then the plain 'ol Strawberry cupcake. The frosting on both was very sweet (maybe too sweet for those sugar-sensitive types) and the cake itself was extremely moist. Being a frosting girl, I was a little surprised to find the the Cheesecake cupcake had a different frosting than the Strawberry one; I couldn't...

  • Chili's Grill & Bar

    5 stars from jewel1325

I really like this place.  The atmosphe is cool and you get a list of ingredients to choose from when ordering their fajitas.  It was delicious too! The service was friendly and our wait was short too.   will definately be back.

  • J & M's Cafe

    3 stars from tedabrown

Well now, I thought for sure I had written a review before on J& Ms?? Do they take them down? I went there today, Saturday, the service sucked, the place has turned cold and impersonal... Maybe just on the Weekends?? And I ordered a slab of country Ham, it was for sure cut in half, but full boat price. Pappy's has them beat (all around) it seems... One would think in this day of hard times, that a place of business would treat their customers more like Family.?

  • K Le Salon and Spa

    5 stars from annieleiboweitz234

I've been to this salon twice so far and have another appointment for next wed.  I loved the service at this salon, the girls there were very kind and courteous and were very personal to me.  The last salon that I went to was very cheap and the people there were very cold to me, so this is a very refreshing experience.  I got a massage and a manicure while my eldest daughter got her hair colored and cut for her high school graduation.  The only complaint that I have is that the prices are...

I'm definitely in agreement with tootall. The food is outstanding, but the seating is a nightmare. Definitely get your food to go!

  • Cataldo's Pizzeria

    2 stars from lossadjuster

I went to Cataldo's for dinner a few months ago and ordered a pizza and a basket of wedges. The wedges were quite tasty. Crispy, well-seasoned, not too greasy. The pizza took almost 45 minutes to get to us, however. When it did, it was delivered by a bored teenager and was burnt. To a black crisp. We asked for a replacement. Another 45 minutes later, we received one of the most disgusting, greasy excuses for a pizza I've ever seen! The crust was even soggy from grease! Not a place I’d...

  • DARK SIDE COMICS

    3 stars from bugmenot

As a first timer at this shop, I can say that the shop is small and hard to find, but the quality is great. Because of the small size, there is little shelf space so the selection is a little limited, particularly on the independent side. Nonetheless, the shop is well organized and kept up, and perhaps most importantly, the proprieter is really nice and really helpful guy. If you are new to comic book collecting/reading or returning to it, drop by and ask all the questions you have....

  • Phine's Southern Style Cooking

    5 stars from lbeason

Absolutely wonderful food!!! I've heard good reports from coworkers and had to try this place. The catfish fillets were outstanding, light and moist with a crispy corn meal breading. The fried okra tasted fresh and had a similar crispy coating. I was surprised to get cornbread in the form of a pancake, but it was delicious and a fun change of pace. My sister avoided catfish in the past, but tried it for the first time today. She loved it, along with the black eyed peas. The decor is simple...

  • Famous Dave's

    3 stars from jbaldwin

For my first time there, I was impressed. Shy as I am, each time the wait staff brought out trash can lids full of food chanting "FEAST!" I shrunk in the booth. Luckily I didn't order a "feast." But I did order one of the least-expensive meat combos (rib tips, $10.99) and got a MUCH fuller plate than my date, who ordered a two-meat combo (ribs and brisket, $17.99).  I went home with what felt like a 5-pound box of leftovers! I loved the green beans and sweet mashed...

  • Cope's Knotty Pine Cafe

    5 stars from mannthing

Food and service always top notch. The atmosphere is friendly and upbeat. Very family friendly cafe.  I have been going since they opened almost 10 years ago. The chicken fried steak is out of this world delicious. You always get your moneys worth. They are very generous.  The service is always great even when it is real busy. Never judge how busy it is by the parking lot, sometimes you can get right in if you sit at the counter. The wait is never too long unless you have a very...

  • Coffee Cottage

    5 stars from mannthing

This is a very cute little coffee spot. The hot coffee is wonderful and the blended coffees are absolutely amazing. I am a frequent visitor and it is always a great trip. I always end up seeing someone I know and chatting with other visitors. The service is great and always very friendly. I will be going back!

  • Fabious' Corner Best BBQ

    5 stars from charlie1

Great BBQ. We went there for the first time last Saturday and because there were 6 of us we ordered the "Elvira's Mama Family Pack". It says it is enough to serve 6-8 and it means just exactly that with ample portions. Drinks and all came to $69 bucks and divided that is not bad ($11.50 each). Since we could not eat it all we each took some home. The owner and all the employees were very friendly and made you want to come back. It's the kind of...

We went to there to get prices on a wedding cake. First we sat down with the "Wedding Cake" book and looked. We loved the look of the cakes. But then when we ask about prices and showed the lady which cake we liked she quoted us $240. Great I thought. But then after we talked with her some more she asked if it was for a wedding. When we told her yes(the picture of the cake we showed her was in the wedding cake book) she told us then it was $600. WOW. Just because it was for a wedding the same...

The Burgers weren't  that great... tastes like something you would get at your next door neighbors bbq......Flat soda....only the fries were restaurant quality.... this place looks better than it tastes.....I probably won't be going back... to expensive for what I got!

  • Gimme Some Sugar

    5 stars from silence

I have made several orders from Gimmee Some Sugar and I will NEVER order baked goods from anywhere else in Bakersfield!!! The cupcakes are absolutely fabulous!!!! I have had both the buttercream and cream cheese frostings and both are addicting! Not to mention the owner's creativity! I have recently made another cake order for a friend's baby shower and I am so excited to see how it turns out.....I know everyone at the shower will admire it as much as I have our orders in the past. Imagine my surprise at finding out that the diner inside the old Woolworth’s building was open again under new owners. And then to find out just how great the food is! I had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was one of the best I’ve ever had. And the ambience, complete with antiques and a rock ‘n roll theme, was very inviting. I’ll definitely be coming back!

  • The Orchid

    4 stars from eaguilar

I, too, recently ate for the first time at The Orchid restaurant with my mom. I ordered the Pad See Ew. The food presentation was very good and I was impressed by the beautiful waterfall located on the wall inside the restaurant. Our waitress kind of got our bill mixed up with another, but other than that, it was a good place to try.

  • Sugar Mill

    5 stars from MeMeWonderfulMe

We love this place!  The staff is always friendly and curteous and their food is great and plentiful without spending tons of money.  My sisters and I went only once for breakfast but the amount of food you get on one plate was almost enough to feed all four of us.  My husband, son, and I go for dinner quite a bit and have never had a bad expirence.  I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

  • Romano's Macaroni Grill

    2 stars from MeMeWonderfulMe

We have a girl's night out every month in which we try out a different restaurant each time.  This month was the MG and I'm sad we wasted our time and money at this place.  The service was horrific and the food was mediocre at best.  I had been a couple of times before with lukewarm feelings but the 3rd time was the clencher.  We won't be back.  They automatically charged us 18% tip because we had 10 people in our party (I understand why, but I would NEVER have tipped that much on my...

  • Pizza Bob's

    1 star from foodjunkie

i use to love pizza bobs. the food was always top notch. I have to say that since the location was sold by bob to a new owner the service and quality has gone down hill.  have gone twice now and the servers have been extremely rude and the food is not as good. the pizza lacked toppings and the garlic cheese bread had no cheese on it. we want bob back

  • Wool Growers

    5 stars from steveeswenson

The reason Wool Growers is a mainstay is because of the great food, and lots of it, and the great service. The owner, Jinny, is not only a sweetheart, but she has assembled a top rate crew that tends to your every need. The pickled tongue is excellent and the ox tails melt off the bone. Best soup (mix in those beans and salsa) and french fries in town. We had tri-tip on a recent Friday and it was very tasty. It's why I've been going to this restaurant for all 29 years I've been in Bakersfield.

  • Berean Christian Store

    4 stars from maryrusso

Well, I have to preface my review by stating I don't consider myself a Christian, so I am really surprising myself reviewing a Christian bookstore. I stumbed into Berean to buy a book on the recommendation of a friend. I had no idea what or where Berean was. After Googling it, I realized it's the place I drive by daily right next to Mor Furniture and the Valley Plaza movie theater. When I parked and walked up to the door, I was almost afraid to go inside. Like they were going to sniff...

  • Rockets Coffee

    4 stars from maryrusso

Located downtown next to Capistranos, Rockets is a little hole-in-the-wall independent coffee place. It's brand new, so it is still getting settled in and working on finding it's groove. It's not clearly marked from the street yet, except for some vinyl letters from the home improvement store saying Rocket Coffee on the window. It's a very small space inside- maybe the size of my bedroom, but open and organized. The atmosphere is sparse black, but comfortable.  It also has an outdoor...

  • The Orchid

    5 stars from DiningDivaKatie

I love a delicious Pad Thai. What makes The Orchid’s Pad Thai exceptional is how light and fresh it is; not tasting fried in the least. The coral-colored egg noodles are light and fluffy and full of tangy, nutty flavor. The chicken and shrimp nestled inside the noodles are perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. On top of the hot noodles is a menagerie of crisp shredded carrots, bright purple-hued shaves of cabbage, crisp strings of bean sprouts and ample shreds of cooling cilantro. All of The...

  • The Orchid

    5 stars from DiningDivaPenny

I love the concept of their wine bar and felt very metropolitan in Bakersfield. One side of their wine bar houses the reds and keeps them at room temperature. The other side of the bar is chilled and stores the whites. I ordered the Mac ‘n’ Cheese with lobster. It was luxurious mac and cheese with five types of cheese, truffles and lobster. I offered each of the girls a bite, but I kept my hands on the bowl as I passed it to Katie since she loves comfort food. Sixteen dollars for...

  • The Orchid

    5 stars from DiningDivaTracy

The Orchid is located in the Brimhall Square shopping center on the corner of Brimhall and Calloway. Just look for their fabulous outdoor dining patio with wrought iron chairs and market umbrellas. From bright warm colors on the walls to dark tones in the wood to the grey slate water feature in the dining room, it’s easy to tell that this is not a typical restaurant in Bakersfield. My Blue Crab Avocado Salad ($12) was beautifully presented with spring mix greens and real blue crab meat...

  • The Orchid

    5 stars from DiningDivaLydia

Everyone I run into has been talking about this place. It’s been a while since I’ve heard so much chatter about a new restaurant in town. People can’t tell me enough about the pay-as-you-go wine bar or gush enough about the lobster-studded Mac ‘n’ Cheese. Walking into The Orchid, I was struck by the atmosphere. The dining room décor is nicer than I expected of a place in a strip mall. The dark woods and dim pendant lighting give it a subdued,...

  • Famous Dave's

    3 stars from bakobornnraised

I can only give three stars based on the fact that what I had was eaten and served at home. Today was my birthday and my mom and dad surprised me with a thick slab of Famous Dave's Bread Pudding. It came pre packaged with instructions, but most of all, it was pretty darn good. Actually pretty darn good doesn't quite explain it. It may be because I haven't had dessert in ages (eating disorder) but I ate most of this piece and licked the plate clean...seriously. The pecan caramel sauce was...

  • 1560 KNZR-AM

    2 stars from nkoby3

It's easy to see why this is the top-rated radio station in town.  Two of the biggest hate-mongers in radio, Rush Limbaugh and Jaz McKay, call this station home.  They are both racists, homophobes, and clearly have very little self-esteem.  And the rednecks in this town eat up this garbage.  Ralph Bailey is pretty cool, though.  He's the only reason why I'm giving KNZR two stars instead of one.  Oh yeah, and Bill O'Reilly's stupidity makes me laugh on a daily basis, only he's not...

We had a large group of 20 for a birthday the service was HORRIBLE. Waiter got everything wrong.  Drink orders took 30 minutes plus.  We were told there was only 1 bartender. We ordered a bottle of champagne it took 45 minutes to get it after asking for it twice. Limited choice of menu items and they were out of 2 of them.  They did not tell us until we tried to order them. I ordered the steak it was supposed to come with a salad didn't get the salad until after getting the steak, ask...

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. We have tried just about everything on the menu and can honestly say their food is equal to their service -- the best in town.

  • El Jacalito Grill

This place has the best service and the best margaritas in town. Also the camarones a la diabla, the best I ever had. Ask for the specially  flavored margaritas (guava, is the best).

  • Si Senor Grill

    1 star from Folsomsd

“ Absolutely pathetic. Garbage food, amateur service. It's just about as bad as can be. The only thing they do right is chips, and it is because they come straight out of the bag, but it takes a lot more than that to run a restaurant. It takes a good cook, good manager/owner and good service. Since when the pastor tacos are 3 little pieces of steak and chorizo, give me a break, whom are you trying to fool. I was willing to forgive that, however as soon as had the first bite, I just...

Oh man this place is ssssoooooo good.  I love the food so much I have been there twice already within a week period and I am going there today.  I have tried the grilled chicken panini and the Autumn turkey and they are both really good.  The fresh cut fruit bowl is so good it is way better then something you can get at a grocery store.  I just wish they were open on the weekends because then I would be there even more.

  • Sinaloa

    5 stars from achilles

My wife and I love Sinaloa. The service has always been great, and the food better. If you want tradirional Mexican food, then Sinaloa is the right place. By the way, ask for bread and butter along with your chips and salsa.

  • Joseph's Italian Restaurant

I like Joseph's for the food and atmosphere. The service is just what you expect at any restaurant. The steaks, oh man the steaks, are to die for. Good pasta as well. Keep it up.

  • Serenity Cat Hospital

    5 stars from CGNewbro

I also agree that this is a top-rate vet for your cat.  I was adopted by a 1 year old cat who kept showing up at the door at the house I was renting.  I became concerned that she was going into heat, and I took her to another local vet  (who was recommended to me) to have her fixed.  That vet told me they couldn't take my cat for surgery for 2 months. I had seen Serenity Cat Hospital in the neighborhood, so I stopped by, just to see how long their wait was to perform the surgery on my...

  • Stars Theatre Restaurant

    5 stars from goldiloxff

We went to Stars for the first time, to enjoy a nice evening out for our First Anniversary on 6/7/08 We had the BEST experience !  The bartender didn't have much 'spunk' - she seemed bored to death!  But the rest of the staff was awesome! and catered to our every whim. The food was really good, which kinda surprised us! The performance was a comedy ~ and we were delighted with the entire experience. If you want something 'different' to do in Bakersfield, we deffinately suggest an evening...

  • Cafe Med

    1 star from alidoremi

We've been eating at Cafe Med since they first opened in the northeast 20 years ago.  Usually we love the food.  But things have gone downhill in the past few years.  DON'T go on a special holiday like Mother's Day.  They overbook the reservations, they don't have enough waiters, and they run out of food on the buffet. We went for our anniversary (not having been there since the year before) and were very disappointed.  They gave us a dirty water glass and when my...

  • Joseph's Italian Restaurant

This place is wonderful.  Their calzones are very big and tasty.  Sometimes we go by just to pick up pints of red and white sauce to use at home.  They always throw in some french bread.  Go early as it is always slammed.

I have been there almost every Friday. I see the same friendly bar tenders some of the same crowd.  The music is happening and the crowd is very safe. i like the fact that they have tight security.  It feels like LA club and the lounge decor is awesome.   I like to be in a safe club since i am female.  I like the nice looking guys that come there
