While the service is often sub-par, I have always enjoyed the food.  My favorites are the salmon, and the coconut shrimp.  I also appreciate their variety of salad dressings.

  • Mainland Insurance Services

    5 stars from roninsales

Got a really good quote on the phone, they dont b.s. like these other so called cheap insuance places. they tell you exactly what your getting with a positive additude and great service from the moment you walk in.  I was also surprised when i learned they have many other services other than insuance and taxes, if i remember right the young gentleman that attended me told me they also did divorces, notary, and help with refinancing. kinda of like a one stop shop place. they have my 5.

  • Elephant Bar

My husband and I have visited this establishment twice, both times the service was horrible, the 1st visit the waitress attended to us right away, but once our food was brought to us she never returned until I physically walked up to the hostess and asked for our check and the manager who by the way is worthless when it comes to complaints.  I DID NOT want money taken off my bill or anything of the kind, what I wanted was someone to come and refill my drink once during my visit. The food...

This bakery is the best in Bakersfield I've been coming here for 5 years, and the bread is very good. I'm constantly trying different breads in town, but nothing beats this bread

Chili's ain't worth beans.  Get it?  Beans?  Chili? Thank you for finding this review helpful.

Mediocre food + mediocre drinks + mediocre service = mediocre restaurant. The Elephant Bar is generic, safe, boring and bland. If that's what you look for in a restaurant then I recommend the Elephant Bar...until they open a Cheesecake Factory.

  • Chili's Grill & Bar

    4 stars from axpangel

My food is always good and I have always received friendly service.  It seems like its always such a busy place and theres normally some kind of wait, which sucks if you're hungry!

  • Romano's Macaroni Grill

    5 stars from axpangel

I haven't had any disappointments about this place.  They have friendly service and my food has always been good.  I love the bread and its nice they give you a sheet to "make your own pasta"  and you're able to circle all the toppings you want and your choice of noodles.  And its always so tasty :oP

I come here because I like the orange chicken with rice and the Passion Tai drinks.  The service is mediocre, they're semi-friendly and often don't check up on you.

I love this place!  Its where I always go when I want Mexican food.  Anyone I have told to go try this place loves it now.  Even a really picky friend of mine always wants to go here.  Good food, good drinks, good service, and clean!

  • J's Place

    5 stars from CrunchyGuero

Chicken and Waffles!? Can you do that?  Yes you can, and it's really good, too.  I dropped by J's Place for some quick lunch on Wednesday and was told by the waitress that I should try the Chicken and Waffles if I wanted to get an idea what J's was about.  Who am I to argue with an expert.  I ordered the Chicken and Waffles . . . and I'll do it again too. On the way out the door I got an order of ribs and they were pretty darn good too.  My next stop, I've got to try...

  • California Pizza Kitchen

    4 stars from nkoby3

I had never been to this location until today.  At other CPKs, I found the food to be overpriced and of average quality.  Today's visit, however, was exceptional.  I tried the vegetarian pizza with goat cheese (an extra $1.50).  The pizza had big chunks of broccoli on it that I could have done without, but the rest of the pizza was awesome. I would give this place five stars, but there were a few minor problems.  First, our order took longer than it should have taken.  People whom had...

Love love love it here!  The nice sized cupcakes are around $2 and the cookies are all yummy too.  I've tried way too many there...snickerdoodles, chocolate chip and the rice krispy treats which are as huge as a brick :)  I love the red velvet cupcakes and the butterfinger ones, too.  The girl who is always there around lunch time when my coworker and I go in is so nice.  They aren't open all day though, I think only until 4pm M-F and until 12pm on Saturdays, closed...

It was cute in here, a bit plain, but I liked it.  I tried a strawberry shortcake sort of cupcake and I loved it.  They do have a limited assortment, but I still left satisfield.  Yum!

My and my fiance met them at Disneyland to take our engagement pictures. They were so professional and very friendly. We only saw a few of the pictures, which looked absolutely great. I can't wait to see the rest! They made us feel very comfortable. Thank you Rhiannon and Alex! You were Great!

  • Tom's Famous Burgers

    3 stars from tedabrown

Well I went there yesterday and had a 1/4 lb. burger $2.31 with tax. Not bad flavor, but I am not a fan of a THIN meat patty or sherdded lettuce, as it is not only a big mess it makes the burger look way bigger than it really is. All the rest of the burgers were way out of my price range.. clear up to $6.99 whats that? If I want to really get full, 2 JJs will do the trick... For the money  the JJ is the best buy for a burger in Bako, and at $1.38 with tax it is the best around...

I enjoy going to Connie's, I shift from favorites every time I go, right now I'm all about the Red Velvet, some other favorites are cinnamon, and I never tire of the Chocolate Attack. It's important to note that they encourage you to call in advance if you want a particular flavor as they don't bake all their flavors every day. They do offer to have your flavor ready if you call in advance. I also enjoy the calm atmosphere. I will be returning for my sweet tooth attacks!

  • Mama Tosca's Italian Restaurant

My DH and I frequent the marketplace, but have never tried Mama's until this past Friday.  We stopped over for lunch after a Dr visit mostly because it was close, and DH wanted to try something new. We got there before they actually opened, and they still seated us, so that was a pleasant surprise.  There was only one other table occupied, and the waiter seemed friendly and approachable.  He really did do an excellent job in taking care of us.  Even though we were seated in the open,...

  • Los Molcajetes

    5 stars from Lynrgl

The Molcajetes, specialtiies of the house, I think,  in chile verde sauce is like no other.  Excellent Excellent Excellent.  Also when you order one of these dishes you will not leave hungry. Also this is one of the very few restaurants in Bakersfield, that actually provides great service. Hurray!

  • Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery

    5 stars from jamin236

We had great service and the food was fantastic. Bakersfield doesn't have enough pub style restaurants, so this is a good addition for those of you who enjoy a good beer and good eats. I would highly recommend the Tilted Kilt for hanging out, watching sports, drinking and eating.

I have a 19 month old son who hsa severe food allergies. Lassesns is very very expensive! If you need gluton free, wheat free, dairy free, or vegan foods there really isn't any other strore that can fill these needs. On that basis alone I will be a customer at Lassesns for at least 18 years.Pray I win the lotto.

the appetizers are more like "tapas" plates (cheap and small portions) and the entrees we tried were excellent.  the service was prompt and the staff friendly. the decor is contemporary but the waterfall was not working (?on a Saturday night). also it was too quiet because there were not too may patrons and one could hear the kitchen (like CPK).  background music will solve this problem and add to the vibe.

  • Yoga Space

    4 stars from Mickey49

I have never been to a yoga class.  I was a runner and worked out with weights at local gyms for most of my adult life.  I was most recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis which affected my physical abilities and am no longer able to run or work out as I have done in the past.  I was looking into a more effective way to keep in shape and still feel good physically and cardio wise.  I visited the Yoga Space last week and was greeted with a very energetic and...

Well, in a nutshell, this place sucks!  I wiaited for the "newbies" crowd to die out so I didn't go there for the first week.  Here in Bako anytime a new eatery opens, it is packed for the first few weeks.  On there second week of opening I went there on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar.  17 MINUTES later I finally was assisted!  There were 7 bar folks tending the bar so there was no excuse for having to wait 17 minutes, this is unacceptable! ...

  • Stuart Anderson's Black Angus

I have no idea why, but it doesn't matter which Stuart Andersons I go to, I sit and wait. And wait. And wait. After waiting almost fifty minutes before even getting my order placed last time, I knew I never was coming back. The food was ok, but not worth the interminable wait.

For years this has been the one restaurant in Bakersfield with consistantly good food, good service, and good prices.  On top of that, they are one of the few restaurants that accept  reservations. Over the last 20 years, we have held many employee luncheons here, and have never had a single problem.  The same goes for the numerous family dinners and special occasions we have celebrated here.   I highly recommend this restaurant.

This has to be the BEST BURGER in Kern County! Also the nicest people running it. Prices are so cheap -- and they make the onion rings from scratch! Try it and you'll be hooked. Please make sure to leave a tip -- even on "to go" orders. They deserve it. And to respond to "bmw328man" above who made the comment about tipping: No, I'm not family nor an employee. I just tried this place the day before posting the review. I mentioned...

  • L & R Cleaning

    5 stars from finyin

L & R folk have kept our home, an old one, in the dusty area of Valley Acres, in very, very livable condition.  Additionally, they are honest, hard working folk that own and provide services for the business.  I strongly recommend this business to anybody who is ethical and needs residential or commercial cleaning services...

I have the same complaint as the prior reviewer who had the problem with the (lack of) "All you can eat Shrimp."   I havn't gone back since the "All You Can Eat Beef Ribs."    My plate came with 2 ribs on it, and the waitress avoided eye contact with me for over 30 minutes while I waited to ask for more ribs.   When I finally did get her attention, she tried to out wait us, but eventually brought me a plate with one...

this place needs a chef ramsey make over. it still looks like it did 20 years ago and the quality has gone down hill. the last time i ate there the chow mein tasted burned we asked for a different bowl and got the exact same thing..it was quite frustrating..i have loved the rice bowl for years. but it needs a change all the fixtures are old and out dated it doesent feel clean..i no longer dine in there. i do sometimes have it delivered to my home...someone call kitchen make overs quick...

  • T L Maxwell's Restaurant & Bar

    3 stars from Honeyporter735

Eh. My husband and I had dinner there and to start with it's like being in a very dark cave, turn up the lights a little for pete's sake!  Our steaks were good, loved the sauce too but a dab a plain steamed veggies and a baked potato???  Really, come on, this is 2008, a baked potato???  How about some risotto?  How about  coming out of the 80's?  Just way over priced and out dated.  We won't waste our money.  I do have to say the service is great though.

  • Bakersfield Love Sushi

    1 star from Honeyporter735

I've given this place 4 tries and I am done with it.  Each time the sushi rice was hot and did not taste like they even seasoned it.  Hot rice with cold raw fish?  UGH, I don't think so.  The last time they were playing some gawd awful music when I heard m-f'er over the speakers!  I told the manager who didn't apologize, she just giggled and told me they let the wait staff play their own music.  Never going back!

  • Izumo Sushi

    5 stars from Honeyporter735

Best sushi place in town hands down.  Unlike the other joints in town, here you get miso soup, edememe AND a salad all included as soon as you get settled in.  The food is always good and they don't do  the trendy crap that some of the newer places are doing.  I've been going there for 12 years.

  • Village Grill

    1 star from Honeyporter735

Well, my husband and I went to the Village Grill many months ago, were seated and never waited on.  We waited for 25 minutes then left.  I talked my husband into giving it another try last weekend.  This time we were waited but the food was horrible!!  I ordered the eggs benedict which on the menu was described as being covered in a "creamy" sauce, the waitress assured me it was indeed hollandaise ( I guess they felt the folks in Bako are too stupid to know what hollandaise is) and it...

  • Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery

    2 stars from rsupergirl29

Well i have been there 3 times now.  I think it sucks that you order your drinks before your food and your food comes first.  You might want to order two rounds so that you can have something to drink.  The last time i went there i had an awesome waitress but it was on a Saturday around 12:00.  The food is not the best, i love the Atmosphere.  If they could just get there stuff together it would be a pretty cool place.

  • The Prime Cut

    1 star from scober81

I would have to agree with the latest review. My wife and I loved going there on a regular basis because it was close to where we lived. Each time we go we always sit in the bar and each time the service gets worse and worse. I don't know if there is not enough people in the bar working but the last time was a joke. The bartender outside smoking and chatting with other people while we and others in the bar wait and wait........and wait.......and...
