A visit to Carla's Cafe is well worth the drive. This small family owned-operated coffee shop serves up some of the best breakfasts in Bakersfield. Try the Chicken Fried-Steak & Eggs, whatever Carla does to this dish is right on. Carla also has an Ortega Breakfast sandwhich not found on the menu. Ask her for it, it will not disappoint. The decor is typical of what one would expect from a place where farmers meet to chew the fat. Every morning you can find a collection of locals...
Atta boy Gsiolo. You must try the El Chile Verde Special. It is amazing. Adam
There are no redeeming qualities about this restaurant.
Akira provides good quality Sushi, no doubt, but there is a lot lacking. The rolls that are offered are basic. They don't offer a "house" roll that will bring you back. They are inflexible with substitutions and the wait staff was suffocating. The sushi offered at the quickie place in the Marketplace offers a better selection at better prices. Between the hodge podge decor, limited menu and staff that won't go away, I will try another of the ever increasing multitude of Japanese...
The Hair Jungle is a full service salon with a wide variety of services. With hairdressers, manicurists, an esthetician, and a massage therapist, they've got just about everything covered! The staff is very friendly and they are more than willing to help you out with anything you need!
The Service is great! The Staff always has a smile on their faces as they welcome you and OPEN the door for you , as your walking up to the Resturaunt ! how many place's open doors now a days? not very many but they do. Their food is also very good it's always Hot when it come to the table, Mimis has excellent prices aswell.
This place has the wrost mexican food in town & very high on the price for the food. My wife & I have been there 1-2 times thinking maybe it was just 1 of those days mexican just didn't sit right before the new owners took over. So on Friday night we went over there to check out the new owner ship thinking the food would be better & it wasn't ther Fajita's have no flaver the rice & beans same thing. The service from the staff was good it is just the food, Sorry.
El Chili Verde is my husband and I's favorite mexican restaurant. It has been recently taken over by new owners, but the food hasn't changed. They have the best chips and salsa ever.
I've never been disappointed eating at Jake's. Everything is always so fresh. And that cake!! YUMMMM
Sorella's has very good food. The bread is always fresh. The dinner salads are fresh. The portions are big. The restaurant is small and cozy. It is a little pricey but I think its worth it.
Pies! Pies! Pies!
Outback is always good. The steaks are good. The appetizers are good. Their dinner salads are so good. They have a great drink menu. They stay very busy so go for an early dinner if you don't want to wait.
Tahoe Joe's Famous Steak House
When Tahoe Joe's first came to Bakersfield, we ate there every weekend. The food is superb. The steaks are the best in town. The service has always been good. The drink menu is very good. It still stays very busy despite all the new restaurants that have came since Tahoe Joe's. So go for an early dinner to avoid the wait.
Red Robin is fun and has good food. Although the drink menu is limited, they had a really good drink during Christmas called "Disgruntled Elf". My best friend and I went there twice a week just to drink those! It can get pretty noisy if the mall is busy. A lot of people stop in to get a bite to eat after shopping.
Baja Fresh is such a good place to eat. All there food is FRESH and its fairly healthy. Nothings greasy.
Everything Frugatti's serves is good. The lunch specials are great. They have the BEST lemon drop martinis.
How can anyone not like Smiths Bakery?? Everything is this place is great.
I love the Macaroni Grill. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. There Tiratinis (tiramisu martini) are sooooooooooo yum!
Sequoia is soooo yum. The Tuna melt is the best! The desserts are awesome too!!
This is a great place for lunch, and my favorite location of the two Sequoia's I've visited here in Bako. The restaurant is large and the high ceilings with ample windows make it appear even larger. But you come for the food, right? Well of course that's always on point too, since they are a deli of sorts. They offer high quality meats and cheeses as well as soups and salads. My favorite is the French Dip, which reminds me of a Philly Cheesesteak with a bit of French onion style au jus (their...
This is the WORST Applebees that I ever visited...I gave this place 2 tries and both times my family's order was incorrect, served cold (in fact, my fish was still frozen on the inside!) and tasted like the food had been micowaved instead of grilled/oven heated. Maybe it's lack of management..it seemed that the servers were lackluster in performing their services. Even their "Brewster" couldn't save this dismal place.
My husband and I love, love, love BJ's! They have a wide variety of food. The martinis they offer are awesome. The atmosphere is great. If your looking for a quiet place however, BJ's isn't for you. It's very loud and busy. The dinner wait is always long, so go early.
Comfort Keepers was great. They answered all of my questions and really helped my family. We are really happy with their service. They make sure my Mom eats and take her to run all of her errands. She is so much more active now. I would highly recommend Comfort Keepers!!!
I used to really enjoy Cafe Med. It was a great place to have a romantic lunch or dinner,... but, over the last year or two, the quality of food has slipped. The last time my husband and I dined there, I ordered the Chicken Pesto pasta dish, with fresh veggies on the side, and the vegetables were very bitter. The pasta was no better than we could've received at Olive Garden. The pine nuts, in the pasta dish, were cooked to the point that they were actually a touch "mushy" and had lost...
Bakersfield has become a hot spot for very good Japanese restaurants. Among the best is Tokyo Garden. There are many reasons to love this place. Of course, the most important reason is the food. Customers are greeted at the entry by a beautiful koi pond and a very polite and friendly owner. Customers have the choice of dining at a traditional table or dining at a Teppanyaki grill where the food is prepared while you watch. I prefer the Teppanyaki grill. My favorite dinner at...
mannings yogurt is the best yogurt shop in the world
I AM A REGULAR AT THE HOTEL AS WE CALL IT (3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK ). NORIEGA'S IS THE FINEST FOOD IN TOWN. ! IT IS A BASQUE STYLE FAMILY RESTURANT. FAMILY STYLE SETTING. GREAT MENU.AND LINDA & BERNADETTE ARE GREAT WAITRESSES. ONCE YOU START EATING THERE YOU BECOME LIKE A FAMILY MEMBER. I WOULD RECOMEND THE HOTEL (NORIEGA'S) TO THE WHOLE FAMILY. ROGER ASHWORTH
I will not be returning to Cafe Med. The service was good, but the food was not. My wife and I went and ordered the Fisherman’s choice pasta, and the Eggplant Parmesan. The pasta was the better of the two dishes. The salmon in the pasta was surprisingly good, but the shrimp and scallops were both over cooked. The Eggplant Parmesan was just plain bad all around. It tasted as if someone had just opened a can of marinara sauce and dumped it onto some eggplant. I guess I just expected...
Benji's French Basque Restaurant
Great restaurant. I always order the filet mignon with pepper cognac sauce. It is EXCELLENT. The extensive menu is reasonably priced for a complete meal. You won't leave hungry!.
This is definitely the best sushi place in town, and really on par with sushi you get in places like San Francisco. The seafood is always "non-fishy" (which is really to say that it's fresh), making it a great place for someone who thinks they don't like sushi to become a sushi convert. It's also a lot of fun to sit at the bar and watch the sushi chefs make rolls and sashimi. And for whatever reason, I always manage to strike up an interesting conversation with other people at the sushi bar....
This basement restaurant and bar is a favorite among people who work in the downtown area. Many rave about the food -- which is a combination of Italian and Basque -- but I personally like it more for its atmosphere. In the hot summer months, there's no better escape than the cool, dark, inviting Sandrini's. The staff is always friendly, inviting and professional, but still laid back and personable.
Yeah yeah I know..its Taco Bell.. but still omg I have gotten the worst service at this location! I don't think I have had one order correct! Make sure you check your bag before you leave!! So going thru the drive thru they have a nice screen that shows what you order..great! I ordered the taquitos and they come with a sauce, so the lady asked me what I wanted for the dipping sauce, I told her she repeated.so I know she heard it..she never even put it on the order, they are soo preoccupied...
COCKROACHES!!!! Just as I finished my meal a LARGE cockroach walked across my booth table. I quickly killed it and asked the waitress to hand the manager my little gift. No apologies give by the staff.
Brink's Delicatessen & Fine Wine
Excellent sandwiches, extremely fresh and soft bread. My favorite "hidden" sandwich shop... much better than the chain restaurants!
Brink's Delicatessen & Fine Wine
Fantastic sandwiches -- among the very best in town -- plus a terrific selection of bottled beers and soda. It's hard to find Red Stripe at a Bakersfield restaurant, but that's just one of the many cool beers available. The Black Forest ham is always a good choice for sandwiches, but pretty much everything is good. And it's tough to decide which side salad to get -- they're all good.
If you love entertainment with your food, then you must give teppan a shot. Akira's is the standby in Bakersfield for teppan grill, where the chef/entertainers prepare your meal while doing a variety of tricks with knives, eggs, fire, bowls, and cracking well-rehearsed lines. The experience always seems fresh, perhaps because you're seated with strangers (I've never met an unpleasant person at a teppan grill). My most recent meal at Akira's was a mixed experience. The shrimp were large and...
I go there once a month, the meeting place, bar is excellent. Food is pretty good. Better than Denny's.
The service was OK, but the pizza was quite tasty (chile verde). Its a great place to take your baseball/softball team after a game, or just to catch a ball game one one of the many flat screens. They offer Firehouse pale ale @ 2.25 a pint, a well seasoned chile verde pizza and you can grab a lunch consisting of a salad, a slice of pizza and soft drink for under 8 bucks. Not the best pizza in Kern county, but definately one of the better places in town.
Good place for Harley riding cowboys.
This is a great place to quell late-night munchies (particularly after the races at Bakersfield Speedway). I like the chicken-fried steak, but there's always something interesting on the menu that makes it worth return visits.
Best darn place in town to just kick back, have some good old fashion cookin and wash it all down with a cold beer. Then there's the music, cowboys and dancin that can't be beat. Kat
I always really enjoyed attending and having our parties at Shakey's on White Lane and would have considered us to be regulars at that location. However, after this past weekend, would not recommend this location for birthday parties. It was very rushed and when we asked if we could purchase extra rental time (ahead of time) we were told it was against store policy. We had a very small party and after the cake, presents, etc decided to leave the party rental area and grabbed a table in the...
Bob and Kathy have created a fun atmoshpere where people are comfortable to sit around the bar and have conversations with people they just met. Get there early for lunch during the week, but stop by on Saturday for a less rushed pace.
A great new pizza place in the Mervyn's shopping center, in what was a former Pizza Hut. Redone on the inside with a firehouse theme. The pizza is wonderful; fairly thin, crispy crust on bottom, and puffy-bread edges all around. The toppings are plentiful and the sauce really tasty. It's a little out of the way for us but worth the drive.
Farmer Boys may be the chain "QSR" restaurant, but Leo's was doing it, and doing it better, before they even got to town. Mexican/American food, quick, friendly, hot, and good. Much better than those jokers at McD's and Taco Bell do just down the street for not much more (if any more) money.
The burgers are smaller than they used to be, and the service seems to be less attentive. Big knock: My girlfriend, who's got bad legs and uses a cane, was led with me to the farthest booth from the entrance into one of the step up booths, whilst we past several ordinary booths. Way, way too expensive for the experience, especially the dreadful tea at $2! This is probably good for trendy people to meet or out-of-towners to feel comfortable, but those who plan to stay here should get...
Better than Taco Hell. Good place to spin in and catch a bite. Service is somewhat blah, but not rude or inattentive. Mistakes aren't usually made by the cook crew either.
Delivery was fairly prompt, with the traditional superb Me and Ed's Pizza and wings. Two gripes: No ranch with the wings. I had some, so no real killer. Second, and not exclusive to Me and Ed's: Do any pizza places give change anymore? The driver owed me some small change and just walked away. If I don't get my quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies, I'm not giving my usual $5 driver tip. I was a Deliverator once, so I remember...
Chicken teriaki was good, but not teriaki. The steak was tender and well cooked, but unflavorable. The pork rib special was really quite good, however, making me wish I had gotten it instead. (My girlfriend ordered it and gave me a sample). Seems like any other diner. Not to be a first choice, but not to be avoided either.
Nice, if a little hard to find, hole in the wall buffet. Cheaper than most, only $7.95 for dinner. Excellent tea. Great won-ton soup. Great sweet and sour chicken, brocolli beef, and not to spicy General Tzo's. Great service. Only real knock is the bathrooms were clean, but rather shabby.
