Nice atmosphere. The calzones are great, the pasta and everything else is sub-par for the prices and the reputation.
Its okay. Service is okay, food is okay. I could take it or leave it. Usually only go here when a friend suggests it because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
wow. You can not go wrong. Dress nice!
I thought Bagels & Blenders used tobe the most awesome place. I moved away and experienced Manhattan Bagel (a wonderful chain) and find that the local place just doesn't stack up and I can't eat here anymore. The service ain't so great either, at least the last few times I have been there.
Although this place recently changed hands, it has retained its consistently high quality. The salad bar is expansive and excellent (there are always copious amounts of spinach and other salads, fresh tuna, hard boiled eggs etc) not to mention an impressive array of breads (cornbreads included) But the best are the soups - basque bean, chili, turkey chili, vegetable etc. A very good option for lunch or dinner.
ok yes i am addicted to the super fries and always get them super stink and whenever i say that they know im in the house. yeah and raspberry wheat ale sorry for knocking over my beers the other night guys
Now here's a great place to eat!!! The food is like "mom" makes. You will not leave hungry and for the prices that's a good thing.
My wife Ellen and I have been going to El Portal for over ten years. They have the best Chili Verde and Chicken Fajitas in town. Their Margaritas are very good too. The owner Luis Navarro is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. We eat at this restaurant 5 to 6 days a week. We encourage everyone to give El Portal a try and and do not forget the Chili Toreados. Russell L. Rink, Bakersfield
Some of the best and cheapest lunch specials anywhere in town. Try the hot and spciy shrimp...it's great!
If you want all the benefits of great food and space to mvoe your elbows, try going there for lunch. We usually head there once a month or so for lunch and there's always room at the inn. Plus, without the throngs of the young and the restless the noise level is much lower, allowing for good conversation.
Best thin crust pizza around. I'd give 'em that last star if they'd deliver :o)
Tahoe Joe's Famous Steak House
Want to experience the best of Tahoe Joe's and not have to wait? Try going Sunday for lunch. Every time we've gone it's the same wonderful service and great food, but without the wait. The railroad shrimp are incredible and their salads are always top notch.
This is my favorite with regards to Chinese food and a top three as well. I’ve been going Grand China since I was 5 recently my girlfriend, which has also been going to there about for about the same time, and I tend to stop by twice a month. Great ‘mom & pop’ atmosphere, nothing too fancy here just great service and delicious food. Julia's great...and all the gals as well. Best Orange Chicken in town! Love the Tea, Hot & Sour Soup. All around Great place. Don’t forget to try...
This is a great alternative to your lunchtime sandwich. I really only get one thing: the chicken kabob sandwich, which is grilled chicken, grilled tomato and onion, lettuce, and a wonderful mayo sauce all wrapped in a fresh pita bread. Very filling. The baklava is great too.
I clicked 3 dollar signs because if you order a salad (which is a la carte) and dessert your total per person will be over $20. Great food, nice place for that 'special' dinner.
Sorry, I've never understood the appeal of this restaurant. I know it's a staple of Bakersfield culture but there are so many better places to get Chinese food.
Great authentic German food. Wonderful daily specials like roladen and meatloaf. Get the 'Hausplatte' for two: schnitzel, bratwurst, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage, potatoes. Wish it was located in a different part of town but definitely worth the drive.
Two words: stinky fries. And three words if you count the great beer!
WOW! Great stuff. Kid's loved the songs.
I am a huge fan of Baja. I love their burritos enchilado style.....lots of cheese and sauce. Their tacos, taquitos and anything else I have tried is really good. When they say Fresh, they mean Fresh!
I love this place! I went there my first time every eating sushi! My recommendation is to go with someone who knows sushi if it is your first time. We ordered the Chef's choice and my date didn't even know what they were. I am not that adventurous but I tried quite a bit skipping the scary looking ones. I still to this day have no idea what I tried. I went there again recently for my niece's b-day and we sat at one on the grill tables and they put on an awesome show for us! This time no sushi...
This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. Uricchio's is also a very good Italian restaurant, and offers dishes with a bit more "pizzaz." But if you want hearty traditional fare, Frugatti's is the better place to go. They offer lots of good pasta dishes around $10, and other dishes for between $15-20. There's also good pizza and calzone. If you're on a shoestring budget like me, it's also a good deal since I've never been able to finish my food in one sitting. I always have leftovers for...
Slightly more pricey than most Chinese restaurants, but their food and atmosphere are worth it.
The best "I am stressed and need to eat something to make me feel better" place ever.
Dagney's is one of my favorite places for Soup the Tomato Basil is wonderful, its the perfert cold day lunch.
Very good food, and a great place for a nice lunch. Good selection of appetizers which seems to be a lean option at many restaurants these days.
Love this place. They catered my wedding and my guest were delighted. Artichoke Chicken Penne Pasta is a must try!
If my husband ever asked, and money was not an object, this is where I would spend every special occassion. Wish they advertised once in a while in the Californian or maybe the Northwest Voice so I knew what specials they had coming up. I love the lemon cheesecake and hate it when I go and they do not have it on the menu that week.
Perfect start to the day--cheddar bagel, toasted dark and a cup of Sumatra with a bit of cream. Excellent mini-vacation before the start of reality:)
I love the BBQ chicken & thai chicken salads at CPK and I think our CPK has the most atmosphere of any that I have been to in this chain. In comparision to other CPKs, I have been disappointed in the pizzas, they have always been either way under or overcooked. It's worth a try though. The Peking Duck, Pear & Gorganzola & Garlic Shrimp pizzas are awesome.
I think it has a great atmosphere and outstanding service. The dining room is actually not that large, but it feels majestic with its extremely high ceilings, dramatic light fixtures and towering wallpaper murals. Everything I have had here has been great. I particularly enjoy their lettuce wraps appetizer and their noodle dishes. They have a special non-alcoholic mojito style drink which is delicious and refreshing. The only pitfall of PF Changs is that their bar area is kind of awkward...
Love the hamburgers and fries. My folks of 95 and 94 go there for lunch, because of the price and the great hamburgers. A late lunch is good for them...nothing else to do. It is quick and easy....menu is simple and better for them.
This place was my old addiction........double chease burger and fry........they have a good and simple food!!
Love their food! And Yes! they do have a good beer. I am not a beer drinker, but I usually try some when I eat here.
Cafe Med is one of "it" place in Bakersfield, and food is good and wine list is very good. You will see and meet many of "faces of Bakersfield" when you dining here (if you are deeply tied into this community) I would give them 5 star rating 6-7 years ago, but as the restaurant become popular and price went up significantly, I just don't see much of value and new surprise any more. I could be completely wrong but it is my opinion that this place is becoming more "status quo".......
If you are "experienced" sushi-eater and really a "picky" on quality and freshness of your fishes, Sushi Kato is the place to go in Bakersfield. Although their price is bit higher than other sushi restaurants, but it is certainly worth it!
The only item I have ever had here is their Taco salad with tortilla chips, beans, salsa, cheese, chicken. It is delicious! Although it's a lot for a salad, it definitely hits the spot for someone craving a great tasting salad! Also, I have heard a lot about their desserts but I have yet to try any. Pretty much after the salad I'm completely full.
This is the only Chinese restaurant in Bakersfield that serves for DIM SUM on weekend! They open at 10:30am in the morning on weekend!
Best place to go to for breakfast. Love there omelette's and chicken fried steak.
Tasty, creative food in a fun downtown setting. My favorite thing on the menu is the sweet potato fries, served with a spicy chili sauce. I usually get a side salad with an order of jerk chicken skewers for lunch and it's the perfect amount of food. I also like the empanadas and don't forget to order a glass of sangria! The tiny bar is a great, cozy spot to hang out, too.
This is a very unique restaurant and has great food! It is better to go there with 3-4 people so that we can share and try many different dishes! Their savichi is "must to try"!
Dagny's gets 5 stars mostly because there seem to be very few coffee shops like this in Bakersfield (as far as I know.) It's just a very relaxing place to sip your coffee or tea or whatever thanks to the sidewalk tables, comfy couches, visually soothing decor (with enough quirk to avoid making the place look generic like Starbucks.) Other pluses: I've never brought my laptop there but apparently there are places to plug them in. Also, there are a lot of different newspapers available for...
If you like authentic Thai food, this place is pretty good! Mke me wanting to visit Thailand again
This may be the most unique restaurant in a town known for blandless and franchised food. This tiny little Caribbean-Latin eatery features everything from sopa de tortilla, fried squid, Cuban sandwiches, a WONDERFUL warm spinach salad, dessert flan ... .need I go on. This is locally owned and we can only help he makes it. Located in the heart of town, it's a perfect lunch place.
This is a terrific downtown (and locally owned) coffee shop, a nice change from Starbucks. There is always an ecletic mix of folks hanging around: local politicos, gaggles of young people in Bible study, local business people, artsy types, cyclists in their Lycras. Go there enough and you will certainly run into someone you know. They also sell wonderful lunch sandwiches made by the caterer Lisa Borda. I think the coffee here surpasses Starbucks.
Arguably the very best restaurant in Bakersfield. This is high cuisine with a terrific wine list. There's not other place like this in town. Very small and intimate, make sure you make reservations. The only worrisome factor: apparently there is a change of ownership under way. Let's hope it keeps its high standards. If you havent' tried this place, you should. Always good service to boot.
This joint is always consistent and the service is always top notch. Terrific linguine vongole and make sure to try the lettuce wedge. The family that owns this place always makes you feel welcome. As good at lunch as it is at dinner.
Saturdays are the ABSOLUTE BEST days to go to Luigi's....roll into the bar about 10:30 for a bloody, and Margo (the bar maid) will tell you, "What are you doing here so early!?" "Well Margo, I gotta beat that 45 minute wait!" Seriously...plan on getting there early, or not at all....because if you get there hungry...it's all over! You'll be chewing that arm off! But the atmosphere is fantastic and you're always sure to run into someone you know! My favorites dishes on Saturdays are: THE...
T L Maxwell's Restaurant & Bar
I went for dinner with my sweetie and now think this is the cat's pajamas of romantic places to have dinner. Several other couples were celebrating anniversaries/birthdays/engagements the night we were there. The food was fabulous and the service was everything you hope for when going to a fine dining establishment. Very much recommended.
Always on the list of Bakesfield's top restaurants, the food is always consistent, if not the service all the time. Weekends are a hoot and the martini bar is a draw for singles of all ages.
