I go there once a month, the meeting place, bar is excellent. Food is pretty good. Better than Denny's.

The service was OK, but the pizza was quite tasty (chile verde). Its a great place to take your baseball/softball team after a game, or just to catch a ball game one one of the many flat screens. They offer Firehouse pale ale @ 2.25 a pint, a well seasoned chile verde pizza and you can grab a lunch consisting of a salad, a slice of pizza and soft drink for under 8 bucks. Not the best pizza in Kern county, but definately one of the better places in town.

This is a great place to quell late-night munchies (particularly after the races at Bakersfield Speedway). I like the chicken-fried steak, but there's always something interesting on the menu that makes it worth return visits.

I always really enjoyed attending and having our parties at Shakey's on White Lane and would have considered us to be regulars at that location. Bob and Kathy have created a fun atmoshpere where people are comfortable to sit around the bar and have conversations with people they just met. Get there early for lunch during the week, but stop by on Saturday for a less rushed pace.

I had to read and re-read the previous posters' reviews to make sure they were actually describing the same Tony's Pizza that I frequent. 'Frozen pizza'? Farmer Boys may be the chain "QSR" restaurant, but Leo's was doing it, and doing it better, before they even got to town. Mexican/American food, quick, friendly, hot, and good. Much better than those jokers at McD's and Taco Bell do just down the street for not much more (if any more) money.

The burgers are smaller than they used to be, and the service seems to be less attentive. Big knock: My girlfriend, who's got bad legs and uses a cane, was led with me to the farthest booth from the entrance into one of the step up booths, whilst we past several ordinary booths. Better than Taco Hell. Good place to spin in and catch a bite. Service is somewhat blah, but not rude or inattentive. Mistakes aren't usually made by the cook crew either.

Delivery was fairly prompt, with the traditional superb Me and Ed's Pizza and wings. Two gripes: No ranch with the wings. I had some, so no real killer. Chicken teriaki was good, but not teriaki. The steak was tender and well cooked, but unflavorable. The pork rib special was really quite good, however, making me wish I had gotten it instead. (My girlfriend ordered it and gave me a sample). Seems like any other diner. Not to be a first choice, but not to be avoided either.

Nice, if a little hard to find, hole in the wall buffet. Cheaper than most, only $7.95 for dinner. Excellent tea. Great won-ton soup. Great sweet and sour chicken, brocolli beef, and not to spicy General Tzo's. Great service. Only real knock is the bathrooms were clean, but rather shabby.

I have found that when dining at a bar/restaurant, it is best to sit at the bar for many reasons. The service is better at the bar than it will be at a table, plus a seat is easier to obtain at the bar. Both times I went to this BJ's, I sat at the bar. We found out about this place from this web site. I'm glad we did. Mama Roomba is a place to bring some friends so you can share/try new dishes. I would suggest coming open minded because the food is unique, but definitely worth a try. IT ROCKS!!!

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The item's I usually get is the chicken fajitas, chicken fajita salad, or chili verde burrito. Don't forget Taco Tuesdays either! Fun place. Can be noisy. But, with peanut shells on the floor, what do you expect? Outdoor patio would be nice, but no-smoking laws have forced all the smokers outside. I personally wish they'd just ban smoking from meals altogether. Oh, wait, this is a restaurant review, not a soapbox...drinks are fun, service is good, and I've never had to wait more than two minutes for a table. Its out-of-the-way location may keep it one of B-town's better secrets.

We have a great hidden gem in the Northwest. Thai Kitchen use to exist at the old Fish Grotto on Brundage... I had passed it the few times I was in the area, but never tried it. LOVE this place!!! I have lunch here at LEAST once a week. When my friends come to visit from out of town, we always dine here. They love it too! The chefs use quality ingredients, the presentation of the meal is very good, and the service couldn't be better. When you go, you MUST try the fried bananas for desert. (You'll have to save room, though... the lunch and dinner portions are generous.)

Great Castle Chinese Restaurant
The best real and true Chinese food in town! Just because it's not one of the most impressive due to outside appearance doesnt mean that they dont have great food. Try the 3 ingredient delight, walnut shrimp, and or the shrimp chow mein.

First of all, I LOVE pizza. Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria has a fresh and unique flavor that puts it in a league of its own. The signature crust that is unique to Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria adds to the overall goodness of their pizza(s). The only downside to Me-N-Ed's is that it there are none near my home (I live in Southern California), therefore I only get to eat there when I am in Bakersfield or Fresno. I really enjoy Me-N-Ed's and highly recommend it.

If your looking for authentic Chicago Style pizza, then BJ's is the place your looking for. The pizza is actually the only main dish that I have ever ordered outside of some general appetizers. I enjoy their deep dish pizza with tomatoes. The tomatoes are filled with flavor! You HAVE to try it.

Manning's Yogurt West is a nice place to take a loved one, your kids, or whomever you enjoy spending time with for a nice lunch. Their yogurt is very good and I think that they could get away with charging more for it. The customer service is always friendly and they don't mind if you sample every flavor of their yogurt...trust me, I have done it on several occasions. Romono's Macaroni Grill is one of my favorite Italian eateries. Years before one opened in Bakersfield, I used to frequent the one(s) in Rancho Cucamonga and Ventura. In regards to the food, I have only one word "Superb". The wood fire ovens add flavor to their pizzas and other dishes. Just like Mama still makes! My husband grew up Sicilian and that makes us hard to impress, Sandrini's impresses us on every occasion unlike the WalMart's of Italian restaurants we know in town. Great food, great prices and a great bar. We only wish they were open on Sundays too!

My wife surprised me with an early dinner from Flame & Skewers Mediterranean. I actually wasn't that hungry when she ordered the food, but I suddenly found room in my stomach for more after I took my first bite. I highly recommend Flame & Skewers Mediterranean. The food is above par, the menu prices are very reasonable, and the service is fast and friendly. Order their Baklava if you get a chance.

The Taj Mahal is one of the better Indian restaurants in California. Their menu is filled with flavorful dishes that stay true to authentic Indian cuisine. The best sushi I've had here in town. The chefs are really nice and the atmosphere is clean and friendly. The food is always very fresh. I love the Yellow Submarine roll - shrimp tempura wrapped inside a layer of short grain sushi rice, encircled with a yellow soy wrap and topped with fresh tuna, green onions and the secret sauce I've been trying to get the recipe for. This is a wonderful place to eat, and is always extremely busy at noon. Obviously it is well known how good this restaurant is.

After eating at an Applebee's in San Luis Obispo and enjoying the food and cleanliness of the restaurant we thought that this one would be the same. The food was okay but we were disappointed with the cleanliness. The table was sticky and smelled like it had been wiped with a dirty cloth. The silverware was wet within the napkin. I don't think that we will go back there which is a shame because we like other Applebee restaurants.
