  • Marie Callender's

    3 stars from mwill15

I go there once a month, the meeting place, bar is excellent. Food is pretty good. Better than Denny's.

  • Tony's Pizza

    4 stars from n2boca

The service was OK, but the pizza was quite tasty (chile verde). Its a great place to take your baseball/softball team after a game, or just to catch a ball game one one of the many flat screens. They offer Firehouse pale ale @ 2.25 a pint, a well seasoned chile verde pizza and you can grab a lunch consisting of a salad, a slice of pizza and soft drink for under 8 bucks. Not the best pizza in Kern county, but definately one of the better places in town.

  • Ethel's Old Corral

    1 star from JustAThought

Good place for Harley riding cowboys.

  • Milt's Coffee Shop

    3 stars from lmolen

This is a great place to quell late-night munchies (particularly after the races at Bakersfield Speedway). I like the chicken-fried steak, but there's always something interesting on the menu that makes it worth return visits.

  • Ethel's Old Corral

    5 stars from crazyladie

Best darn place in town to just kick back, have some good old fashion cookin and wash it all down with a cold beer. Then there's the music, cowboys and dancin that can't be beat. Kat

  • Shakey's Pizza Parlor

    1 star from kamcguir

I always really enjoyed attending and having our parties at Shakey's on White Lane and would have considered us to be regulars at that location. However, after this past weekend, would not recommend this location for birthday parties. It was very rushed and when we asked if we could purchase extra rental time (ahead of time) we were told it was against store policy. We had a very small party and after the cake, presents, etc decided to leave the party rental area and grabbed a table in the...

  • Lie-N Den Bar & Grill

    4 stars from imadaleion

Bob and Kathy have created a fun atmoshpere where people are comfortable to sit around the bar and have conversations with people they just met. Get there early for lunch during the week, but stop by on Saturday for a less rushed pace.

  • Tony's Pizza

    5 stars from alidoremi

I had to read and re-read the previous posters' reviews to make sure they were actually describing the same Tony's Pizza that I frequent.  'Frozen pizza'?  There's no way Tony's Pizza tastes like frozen pizza.  Another reviewer spend 5 minutes looking for the place.  Huh?  There's a huge sign out front, can't miss it.  It occupies the former space of a previous pizza place.  The theme inside is that of a firehouse, with all kinds of memorabilia and decor.  True, it doesn't have the...

  • Leo's Burgers

    4 stars from dougglendower

Farmer Boys may be the chain "QSR" restaurant, but Leo's was doing it, and doing it better, before they even got to town. Mexican/American food, quick, friendly, hot, and good. Much better than those jokers at McD's and Taco Bell do just down the street for not much more (if any more) money.

  • Red Robin Gourmet Burgers

    2 stars from dougglendower

The burgers are smaller than they used to be, and the service seems to be less attentive. Big knock: My girlfriend, who's got bad legs and uses a cane, was led with me to the farthest booth from the entrance into one of the step up booths, whilst we past several ordinary booths. Way, way too expensive for the experience, especially the dreadful tea at $2! This is probably good for trendy people to meet or out-of-towners to feel comfortable, but those who plan to stay here should get...

  • Del Taco

    3 stars from dougglendower

Better than Taco Hell. Good place to spin in and catch a bite. Service is somewhat blah, but not rude or inattentive. Mistakes aren't usually made by the cook crew either.

  • Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria

    4 stars from dougglendower

Delivery was fairly prompt, with the traditional superb Me and Ed's Pizza and wings. Two gripes: No ranch with the wings. I had some, so no real killer. Second, and not exclusive to Me and Ed's: Do any pizza places give change anymore? The driver owed me some small change and just walked away. If I don't get my quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies, I'm not giving my usual $5 driver tip. I was a Deliverator once, so I remember...

  • Lorene's Ranch House

    3 stars from dougglendower

Chicken teriaki was good, but not teriaki. The steak was tender and well cooked, but unflavorable. The pork rib special was really quite good, however, making me wish I had gotten it instead. (My girlfriend ordered it and gave me a sample). Seems like any other diner. Not to be a first choice, but not to be avoided either.

  • Panda Buffet

    4 stars from dougglendower

Nice, if a little hard to find, hole in the wall buffet. Cheaper than most, only $7.95 for dinner. Excellent tea. Great won-ton soup. Great sweet and sour chicken, brocolli beef, and not to spicy General Tzo's. Great service. Only real knock is the bathrooms were clean, but rather shabby.

  • Cottage Sandwich Shop

    5 stars from scastillo

I finally experienced this place after seeing it on the Inside Guide. I never even knew it existed. I went on a Saturday around 2:00pm and there really wasn't anyone there. Which was great because it is small. But the place is great. The staff was unbelieveably friendly and just really warm and welcoming. The item I chose was a cold sandwich, roast beef with provolone cheese along with the works. I have to say it was fantastic! I like the fact that my sandwich actually had more meat than...

  • BJs Restaurant & Brewery

    4 stars from djgirl

I have found that when dining at a bar/restaurant, it is best to sit at the bar for many reasons. The service is better at the bar than it will be at a table, plus a seat is easier to obtain at the bar. Both times I went to this BJ's, I sat at the bar. The second time, we actually waited for a table (about 30-45 min wait on a weeknight) and after all that waiting when we finally sat down, there was no waitress, no silverware, no anything. We sat and waited for about 10 minutes until we...

  • Happy Jacks Hamburger & Pie

    5 stars from maryrusso

I went to Happy Jacks because of all of the positive reviews I had seen on the Inside Guide. It was great. It has a warm small town feeling and fantastic service. I had a cheeseburger which was 100% sirloin and it had amazing "special sauce." The best part about the meal was the slice of pie. I had the "Rudy" - a layered pie of peanut butter & chocolate & whipped cream. Surprisingly it was light and super fluffy! If I were to say anything negative about my experience it would be I was...

  • Happy Jacks Hamburger & Pie

    5 stars from djgirl

Happy Jack's is a very friendly place; reminds me of a small town diner. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was great! They serve 'patty and salad' which is something like what I'd make myself at home when i don't feel like eating the hamburger bun. The salad dressing tasted like a homemade French/catalina (slightly spicy, tangy and sweet), which I was quite impressed with. The patty tasted like high quality beef. My friend and I split a piece of the Rudy's pie (layers of...

  • Chili's Grill & Bar

    4 stars from KATTBC

Most of what I have had here is really good bt my fave is their nachos. You get alot, definitely enough to share! Plus, they are really good!

  • Mama Roomba

    5 stars from g1fishn

We found out about this place from this web site. I'm glad we did. Mama Roomba is a place to bring some friends so you can share/try new dishes. I would suggest coming open minded because the food is unique, but definitely worth a try. IT ROCKS!!!

  • Cottage Sandwich Shop

    5 stars from g1fishn

If your ever downtown this is a place you have to stop at. I personally love the cashew chicken sandwich. Great place to stop before the Condors game. Try the green iced tea.

  • Los Aguacates Mexican Grill

    5 stars from g1fishn

The chicken fajitas rock at this place. We dine here at least once a week sometimes twice. A must if your out for lunch.

  • Don Pepe's

    5 stars from scastillo

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The item's I usually get is the chicken fajitas, chicken fajita salad, or chili verde burrito. Don't forget Taco Tuesdays either! They have a great special that includes one margarita and three tacos for 5 bucks! There tacos are delicious and the margarita is especially a favorite of mine. This place is very family oriented and I love that the family all works together too. Very comfortable and friendly place with excellent food to go...

  • Tina Marie's Cafe

    5 stars from scastillo

This place has really great tasting food. I always leave full and happy!

  • Logan's Roadhouse

    4 stars from nooneisabovethelaw

Fun place. Can be noisy. But, with peanut shells on the floor, what do you expect? Outdoor patio would be nice, but no-smoking laws have forced all the smokers outside. I personally wish they'd just ban smoking from meals altogether. Oh, wait, this is a restaurant review, not a soapbox...drinks are fun, service is good, and I've never had to wait more than two minutes for a table. Its out-of-the-way location may keep it one of B-town's better secrets.

  • Logan's Roadhouse

    4 stars from mhatfield

They have a fantastic Express Lunch menu here. It has great variety and I think all the items are under $10. Even better, the quality is consistently top notch.

  • Mama Tosca's Italian Restaurant

    4 stars from Steve4FB

I hadn't been to Mama's in a while... I use to frequent it more at it's old location... but the new location is much more elegant... and a great place for an escape from Bakersfield. It's not your everday restaurant... you go with a purpose... date night, anniversery, business lunch/dinner, a special event... you don't get in your car and just go one nite. My wife and I had a date nite last week and ended up at Mama's... I was surprised to see Mama still working away there... She...

  • Jake's Original Tex-Mex Cafe

    4 stars from Steve4FB

I find people either love Jakes or they hate it, though most love it... I went yesterday for lunch... which is always crowded but lucked into a great parking spot, so I knew I was going to have a great meal. Even with a long line, they move through it pretty quickly, unless of course you have a first timer who gets overwhelmed with all the choices. I hadn't been in a while, so I went for a 2 meat plate and had the pit beef and garlic chicken, with Cowboy potoates and broc parm. I...

  • Los Aguacates Mexican Grill

    5 stars from Steve4FB

This is now my wifes favorite Mexican restaurant. We were out looking for something new for lunch and I remembered a review a while back in the California for this restaurant... I had tried to go then, but it was a small, 6-7 table eatery with lines out the door. My wife is always looking for "perfect" fajitas so I decided to chance that they were still there... It was a surprise to not only see that it was still there, but expanded and actually decorated (the old place had plain...

  • Thai Kitchen

    5 stars from Steve4FB

We have a great hidden gem in the Northwest. Thai Kitchen use to exist at the old Fish Grotto on Brundage... I had passed it the few times I was in the area, but never tried it. Well, they moved to the NW and am I ever so happy. I have dined there 4 times now and have had a great experience everytime. My fear of course is too many people will go try it and overrun the place. It is small, but well decorated. The atomosphere is great... the table settings are top notch, gold rim...

  • Jake's Original Tex-Mex Cafe

    5 stars from gbrott

Live in the Bay Area now, however look forward to my trips to Bakersfield and the wonderful food at Jake's.

  • Thai House

    4 stars from carolynennis

LOVE this place!!! I have lunch here at LEAST once a week. When my friends come to visit from out of town, we always dine here. They love it too! The chefs use quality ingredients, the presentation of the meal is very good, and the service couldn't be better. When you go, you MUST try the fried bananas for desert. (You'll have to save room, though... the lunch and dinner portions are generous.)

  • Great Castle Chinese Restaurant

    5 stars from amosley

The best real and true Chinese food in town! Just because it's not one of the most impressive due to outside appearance doesnt mean that they dont have great food. Try the 3 ingredient delight, walnut shrimp, and or the shrimp chow mein.

  • Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria

    5 stars from KennyTenny

First of all, I LOVE pizza. Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria has a fresh and unique flavor that puts it in a league of its own. The signature crust that is unique to Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria adds to the overall goodness of their pizza(s). The only downside to Me-N-Ed's is that it there are none near my home (I live in Southern California), therefore I only get to eat there when I am in Bakersfield or Fresno. I really enjoy Me-N-Ed's and highly recommend it.

  • BJs Restaurant & Brewery

    4 stars from KennyTenny

If your looking for authentic Chicago Style pizza, then BJ's is the place your looking for. The pizza is actually the only main dish that I have ever ordered outside of some general appetizers. I enjoy their deep dish pizza with tomatoes. The tomatoes are filled with flavor! You HAVE to try it.

  • Manning's Yogurt West

    3 stars from KennyTenny

Manning's Yogurt West is a nice place to take a loved one, your kids, or whomever you enjoy spending time with for a nice lunch. Their yogurt is very good and I think that they could get away with charging more for it. The customer service is always friendly and they don't mind if you sample every flavor of their yogurt...trust me, I have done it on several occasions. My favorite flavor is peanut butter with crushed Butterfinger topping. My only issue is that some of the yogurt flavors...

  • Romano's Macaroni Grill

    5 stars from KennyTenny

Romono's Macaroni Grill is one of my favorite Italian eateries. Years before one opened in Bakersfield, I used to frequent the one(s) in Rancho Cucamonga and Ventura. In regards to the food, I have only one word "Superb". The wood fire ovens add flavor to their pizzas and other dishes. I highly recommend trying the Pizza Margarita and the Chicken Calzanetto (only available at lunch time). The atomsphere is inviting and you would feel comfortable being dressed casual to your best...

  • Sandrini's Restaurant

    5 stars from Bellasol

Just like Mama still makes! My husband grew up Sicilian and that makes us hard to impress, Sandrini's impresses us on every occasion unlike the WalMart's of Italian restaurants we know in town. Great food, great prices and a great bar. We only wish they were open on Sundays too!

  • Flame & Skewers Mediterranean

    5 stars from KennyTenny

My wife surprised me with an early dinner from Flame & Skewers Mediterranean. I actually wasn't that hungry when she ordered the food, but I suddenly found room in my stomach for more after I took my first bite. I highly recommend Flame & Skewers Mediterranean. The food is above par, the menu prices are very reasonable, and the service is fast and friendly. Order their Baklava if you get a chance.

  • Cafe Med

    1 star from KennyTenny

My first and last visit to Cafe Med was when I was invited to a celebration there. I had spent several years in Naples, Italy (right on the Mediterranean Sea and have had many Mediterranean dishes. One of my favorite places to eat is "The Greek" in Ventura, California. Cafe Med is not only overpriced, but the food is horrible. It is thee worst Mediterranean restaurant I have ever eaten at. I was part of a large group, therefore the food was already pre-ordered. As a result I do not know...

  • Frugatti's Italian Eatery

    3 stars from KennyTenny

Frugatti's Italian Eatery has been in Bakersfield for quiet a while now. About 10 years ago it was one of the handful of Italian eateries in Bakersfield, but now they have some serious competition...especially with Tony Romano's Macaroni Grill on Rosedale Highway. Frugatti's food is average; there is nothing special about my experience that I can think of. My dish of choice for the evening was the lasagna; it was decent. Frugatti's needs to either lower their prices or improve upon...

  • Taj Mahal Cuisine Of India

    5 stars from KennyTenny

The Taj Mahal is one of the better Indian restaurants in California. Their menu is filled with flavorful dishes that stay true to authentic Indian cuisine. Additionally, their reasonably priced buffet is not filled with oily entrees; some Indian restaurants add extra oil to their buffet dishes to make the customers get full quicker with less food. My personal favorite menu items are the vegetarian Samosa and the Mango Lasse (a mango and yogurt smoothie). The waiting staff is very...

  • Popeye's Fried Chicken

    1 star from KATTBC

For some reason, this particular Popeye's is really not very good. I have had Popeye's down in L.A. and I really like it but the quality of the food here is really lacking.

  • Elephant Bar

    2 stars from Izimu

Mediocre food + mediocre drinks + mediocre service = mediocre restaurant. The Elephant Bar is generic, safe, boring and bland. If that's what you look for in a restaurant then I recommend the Elephant Bar... until they open a Cheesecake Factory in Bako.

  • Elephant Bar

    5 stars from threegun

have more than a bit of experience as i have lunch at the Elephant Bar about once/week or so. the menu is among the best and unusual of any place that i go. food has been consistently excellent. i find the scripted performance of most servers in all the chain restaurants is somewhat offensive at best. if you can find a waitress like "Anna", who can treat you as a person, the Elephant Bar is arguably among the best the best places to eat in the Central Valley

  • Elephant Bar

    2 stars from alidoremi

I honestly don't get this place. Yes, it's a fun atmosphere and the prices are pretty reasonable, but I've eaten there 4 times (once I paid for, 3 were invites) and the food is just so-so. I had the steak once and it was horrible. Another visit I had the shrimp platter; the ones that weren't fried were still undercooked and inedible. Then another time I had the cashew chicken salad; it was OK. My kids love the appetizer sampler platter, but potato skins and chicken fingers are an...

  • California Choice

    4 stars from djgirl

This is a great place to go for lunch when you're really hungry and especially when you are in the mood for soup and salad. The buffet bar for the salad is rather large, double sided and includes just about anything you can imagine that would be good on a bed of greens. I was quite pleased that they serve French dressing there. They also serve strawberry lemonade, which is another favorite, as well as the usual soft drinks, tea, juices and water. You can find that they normally serve about 3...

  • Miyoshi Japanese

    5 stars from djgirl

The best sushi I've had here in town. The chefs are really nice and the atmosphere is clean and friendly. The food is always very fresh. I love the Yellow Submarine roll - shrimp tempura wrapped inside a layer of short grain sushi rice, encircled with a yellow soy wrap and topped with fresh tuna, green onions and the secret sauce I've been trying to get the recipe for. This is a wonderful place to eat, and is always extremely busy at noon. Obviously it is well known how good this restaurant is.

  • Tahoe Joe's Famous Steak House

    1 star from TooCalm1

First, the wait is ridiculous, we were informed that we should call ahead ... preferably the week ahead. I'm sorry but I don't plan my meals that far in advance, and it's been my experience that even if your name is on a list, you're still going to stand around. Second, I went there with nothing but Peppered Steak on my mind, but by the time we were seated they were out! Apparently they prepare a limited quantity early in the day and then the prep cooks go home!?! Funny thing, an off duty...

  • Applebee's Neighborhood Grill

    1 star from karn

After eating at an Applebee's in San Luis Obispo and enjoying the food and cleanliness of the restaurant we thought that this one would be the same. The food was okay but we were disappointed with the cleanliness. The table was sticky and smelled like it had been wiped with a dirty cloth. The silverware was wet within the napkin. I don't think that we will go back there which is a shame because we like other Applebee restaurants.
