Denny's

Once again, there is absolutely NOTHING special about Denny's. Sure they are open 24/7, but why would that matter? Jack in the Box has better food, and they also are open 24/7.

As far as prices go, you really don't get what you pay for. On average, lunch or dinner at a Denny's store like this one will cost around $12 per person. If you dine-in for a morning breakfast, take 2 dollars out of that average.

Food quality lacks here, which is typical. For one thing, the plates are as uncreative as possible. If you get a dinner salad, they will just dump a pile of veggie toppings onto a dish of lettuce and serve it out with a cup of dressing on the side... wow! Oh, and it doesn't stop there. Order some toast for an afternoon snack, just to find out that it barely got toasted at all. I could go on and on about the food, but then we'd be here for eternity. Simply keep this notion in mind: the food is terrible.

The 7th Standard store's service is horrible. 50% of the time I'd come here, there would be only 3 people working in the whole building. And since this location is near numerous gas stations and hotels for families on vacation, Denny's Inc should have put more workers in their team. Too small a working crew prohibits customers such as myself from having a pleasurable dining experience. How is it fair for those 3 employees to run the whole building by themselves? They have all this work to do because of low labor, and us consumers have to wait 3 times longer than we should be waiting.

As far as the dining interior goes, it's alright. The architecture itself is quite nice, and you've got some windows here and there... if only there was more to this place than that.

In conclusion, while this store does offer a passionate crew, food quality and low labor prevent this store from getting my 2 thumbs up. If you're in the area, go to Jack in the Box instead. Leave Denny's for the birds.

T L Maxwell's Restaurant & Bar

Maxwell's is easily my favorite restaurant in Bakersfield. The wine selection is always fabulous, the gorgonzola filet mignon is melt-in-your-mouth lusciousness, and the Mulva(sp?) African sponge cake is the the perfect touch of sweetness to end the night. I urge anyone- GO NOW! You won't regret it.

L.A. Pizza Veloz

I have read several reviews about this place and finally had the chance to try them out this last weekend. I have to say that this is among the best pizza that I've had in Bakersfield.

I have not been there since the early '80's, I have since moved away from Bakersfield. I still have a moment when I crave the French Burger or one of the fried fruit pies...used to order one "ala mode" mmm, best fast food and so cheap, it was affordable when I was a poor lil nursing student. I also remember the little sparrows that would come and sit on your side mirror..some where too fat to fly..great memories! Surprised to see that it is still in business. :)

Papa O's Pizzeria

Great food. I have been there in the past and it was OK, but I heard that they had new owners and it was great! If you have not gone in recently, you should. We had a party there and did not have to spend money to reserve the food. Our kids loved the games and we will be telling our AYSO coach about the party rooms for end of season awards. Give them a 2nd chance.

Bakersfield Museum of Art

This place is amazing. It is an awesome place to hold a wedding reception or large gathering of that kind, either inside or outside. having great at to frame your event, no pun intended, just makewse it that much mroe special. The grounds, too, are beautiful, lush and green so that even in the Bakersfield heat, it is cooler outside.

Highly recommended, but not cheap. Rentals usually top $1500 for four hours, although they will work with you about setup times and clean up, too.

Very easy to get along with staff, and they are very helpful.

Peking Palace

We have been going to this restaurant for years, and it has always been very good. We often share entrees for dinner - the Mu Shu Pork or Chicken is one of our favorites. The lunches are delicious and inexpensive. It's always quiet here since it is in the NE portion of Bakersfield. Service is always quick and the food is always fresh. I took my extended family here and they were very impressed with everything we ordered. Most of Bakersfield does not know what they are missing!

Camino Real Restaurant

Went there with some friends before heading over to Rabobank Arena. The food was very good, loved the salsa and desert was "flantastic!

All I have to say is that I always leave with a smile on my face and great feeling of well being. I can't say that about anywhere else. I try to go at least once a month. At least.

Jimano's Pizzeria

Been there several times now and have never been disappointed. Had their stuffed Beast last weekend. WOW!! Excellent. Just be hungry. they are always friendly. Went there the first time because they put out an advertisement. Ads do work!! I recommend them to everyone. In fact, I plugged them on my Facebook home page. Way to go Jimano's.

El Pollo Loco

Lolz, I love how adog262 talks about the "heavenly plaza." Win-Co is so-so at best, and below fair on average.

As far as this El Pollo Loco goes, it's very good. Its dining room is pleasantly small, but the service is good and the food is great. My favorite is just a good plate of grilled chicken with some tortillas, and creating my own tacos.

For the most part, me and my husband don't care much about this gas chain. While they do offer special discounts once in a blue moon, the quality lacks. We are more than fine just stopping at Arco, they have nicer buildings.

Good lord... you see, this is the extreme of what Fastrip has to offer. Their food mart is horrible, and the place is disgustingly filthy. That's why this store gets one star.

Jimano's Pizzeria

I've been coming to Jimano's since it opened many months ago. In my opinion, it is the best pizza in town! We moved here from Chicago a few years back and were upset that the only "real" Chicago deep dish pizzas that we could find were in LA or when we go to the coast. My only suggestion is that Jimano's switch the names of the "deep dish" and "stuffed" pizzas. The first time I ordered from there, I asked for the deep dish pizza and it was definitely not what I expected and what most Chicagoans would expect--that's the "stuffed" one. So now I have to mentally remember that I need to order the "stuffed" pizza since we always want the Chicago style deep dish pizza. Just a suggestion.

Otherwise, I've always had great service. We've never eaten in the restaurant but always get it for take out so that we can enjoy it at home. They have awesome appetizers and pizzas to die for. When you walk out with their massive pizzas, they're stuffed so much with ingredients, cheese and sauce that it feels like they weigh a few pounds.

Great job, Jimanos! We hope you continue to be successful and that Bakersfield supports you. I always order pizza from there for parties so that more of my friends can try it and see how real pizza should taste.

Romano's Macaroni Grill

Recently had a very good experience at Macaroni Grill. It was mid-week and the restaurant was not very crowded. The decor inside was nice and the restaurant was clean. As many other reviewers mentioned, I too like the paper on the table that you are encouraged to draw on. Our server Josh was very attentive and even brought a replacement dish for my picky daughter when she wasn't happy with what she ordered. I was also quite impressed not only with the service, but their table wine (Chianti). Most table wines aren't nearly as good as this, and to compare it to the table chianti at olive garden is like comparing a $20 bottle of wine with 2 buck chuck. The food was delicious and we all left full. I think the best part was when our server sang Happy Birthday in Italian. I don't know where else in town you can get something like that, but I would definitely recommend Macaroni Grill as a great place to go for a birthday meal.

Jimanos owner and staff really are responsive to customer feedback. It is clear from the conversations I've had with everybody in the place that they are excited about their product and that they are hustling all day each day to deliver it. I am a native Chicagoan baking my own stuffed pizza at home, before Jimanos came to Bakersfield. There are so many ways to spice and flavor a Chicago pizza, you couldn't possibly please everybody. Each time we have presented Jimano's at the office lunch, though, the reviews have been great. Regarding the "salty" taste I've had that experience myself a couple of times. And I did ask about it. It might be in the sauce or perhaps in the parmesan cheese on top. Not sure. Sometimes I have not noticed at all. When it does taste a little sharp I've mixed some honey into the sauce and all is superb.

Mr. Reed thank you for your passion and 2am response. We also enjoy your ribs and the tiramisu. You have a great group of people working for you and I always feel my money and business are valued in your store.

Wings Pizza N Things Sports Grill

I've been there twice and had good food both times. We had bbq chicken pizza, wedges, zucc, jalapeno poppers, a burger, and a quesadilla. All the food was very tasty. This place was a little dirty but there were only 2 employees working at the time. The service was good and the waitress was pleasant and let us know that we could have half off of appetizers. I've heard bad things about this place, maybe it is bad during busy times, but I've never had a problem.

As far as "allegations"...anyone can make an "allegation"....particularly those who are storing sour grapes.

The trouble brewing around this new business is reason enough not to go.

Allegations of fraud, wellfare fraud (!), mortgage fraud and bouced checks or unpaid services don't just happen for no reason. This restaurant will be closed by February.

Fastrip Food Stores

Hello everyone! Today I will be posting my summary review of the Fastrip gas station chain. Visits were paid to several of their joints, so I thought it better to just summarize everything I personally experienced from them. Feel free to visit my profile for more reviews! J

Fastrip is a gas station chain that is mostly local to the central valley, but they do have a few scarce locations in Northern and Southern California . All of their locations have a food mart, as well as an option to purchase cigarettes. You know the usual stuff: purchasing products while on the road. Their chain mostly promises on being fast and efficient, with a variety of reasons to come if so.

However, promises are truly just “promises.” What really matters is the execution, and if the premise was actually executed. To be fair, some of it did work; but there is so much need for improvement for a gas station that claims to be “fast and efficient.”

What did work was the gas: my car never exploded after filling at a Fastrip station. That’s a good thing! ;) The only problem with mentioning this is that not only IS it the only pro of the chain, there are countless competitors that also offer gas; and less expensive at that. Gas War and Arco are good examples of economic competitors; their prices for gas are at least 10 cents cheaper than Fastrip.

As far as what doesn’t work, a lot of it boils down to the food mart itself. IT SUCKS! They have way fewer products than a Chevron location, plus organization is absent. I swear, almost 50% of the products they would sale are still packaged in boxes.

What could Fastrip do to make families more welcome? How about getting their workers off their behinds and actually putting their products on their shelves. It’s a simple job, and one that is a no-brainer. This makes 7-Eleven look like a Vons supermarket!

Normally, I don’t get picky about gas stations when it comes to customer service. Usually, it’s pretty good with almost all joints. Nonetheless, the Fastrip “Food Store” chain needs to focus on this area. Not only are the items placed everywhere at random, the rudeness of most of their fellow employees is unacceptable. Rudeness is a key word, it means “not friendly.” When I say not friendly, that refers to actions such as: not greeting guests, not smiling, ignoring our needs, etc. Sometimes, a worker would glare at me, probably just because I walked in. Very strange, huh? :?
