I feel so sorry in my heart for this poor little boy Sam. He knew a bad place when he saw it.

Now, first of all, the location is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find! Even when one looks it up on google maps (viewer's moment to shine, try it), you can't see a dam thing! All you see is a great Blockbuster and a horrible Carls Jr. Lines go out of their doors onto the streets with wait on fries because of koopa-slow servicio (Oh, I'm so sorry! No hablo americano!).

I have done a review of that gunky of a food-stop already, so let us get on into this pizza parlor in more detail.

So I walk inside, and there is quite a positive mood with the size of the room; however, there is ONE television.

Uhhhhhhh... why just one? Jack in the Box locations are fast-food oriented, and they often have two or three per capita! What a great state of a proposed phony pizza parlor place to be in! No alcohol is going to make me be THAT blind!

I am sorry to disappoint those who believe in paying more to "get more," but the service of this place to customers is as what corn feeding is to horses.

Ah, just freakin' perfect! A front counter with someone behind it with no common etiquette! Where are my smiles? Where is my "good morning Bill Gates?" Where is that charming greeting that I should get when demanding food? Without me, this place would rot! How miserable!

Not only that, while sitting at one of the horribly dirty tables (yes, I said ONE of them), a manager with a tag named "Mr. Monkey-head" dumps pizza in front of me, mumbles, and then walks off. What the heck happened?

Man, do I love their pizza from this corporation. Too bad they can't make it right at this location. This location is as good as bananas in pajamas when it comes to preparing meals.

The dough is real soft, barely baked. The toppings do not taste as good as the toppings of other pizza places. The cheese is pretty good, so it's a mixed bag... YEP, JUST LIKE A TRASH BAG.

Imagine Sam throwing his socks away in the morning, his dad "Jorge El Imposible" throwing away rusty nails around noon, and then Karen getting sick in front of the same trashcan. Sorry for being gross, but that is a what people mean when they say "mixed bag."

Prices are pretty expensive here, that's for sure. $18 paid just to have my face spat at and my money stolen in exchange for a pickle and a french fry.

Brothers and sisters, it is never a good idea to eat here. Go somewhere else instead. Try Wienershnitzel or Taco Del Mar near the same area. You will miss nothing coming from this hole.

Javi's Supertortas

I love this place for a quick lunch. The super torta is all you need, it's huge! I always get the chicken mole. I honestly savor every bite, it's fabulous. The owner is so nice, the place is clean, service fast, food is delicious, and it's definitely affordable. I tried the tostada, just for something different, but it didn't compare with the torta, of course, their specialty. Stop by for lunch, you won't be sorry.

Downtown Deli Mart

When I'm in need of a pack of gum, energy drink or a cold beverage I come here. The sandwiches average, but Pankaj, the owner, is the best!

Kowbel's Custom Catering

I have nothing but good things to say about this caterer! I used him for my wedding on Nov. 15th and everything was absolutely perfect. I did all the arrangments over the phone and through e-mails so it worked well with my busy schedule.

We had the: Tri tip, Chicken, red potatoes with green beens, chili beans, salad, whole wheat rolls, and these amazing sausages for appetizers.

Everything was cooked on location and fresh. His staff was extremely nice and very professional. The woman helping in the kitchen even helped me hide from my groom. They even carved the meat for my guests and cut and served my cake for me.

I highly reccomend this caterer for any function if you love good food and great service. I only caution that the chili beans are very spicey! I can usually eat things that are mildly hot and it was too hot for me, so I reccommend discussing this with him if you end up getting this item.

La Mina Cantina

My husband and I went to the La Mina for the first time a few years ago. And we loved it. Loved how they served the drinks in little glass jars and we fell in love with their little corn cakes. We hadn't been there in awhile and decided we would go back.

We decided to go back there on our anniversary. Well the first mistake was that our waitress made the mistake of acting like she knew Spanish. My husband is Hispanic and speaks fluently in English and Spanish. He ordered the Shrimp Cocktail in Spanish, and the waitress went and put the order in like it was no problem. So when our food comes he gets his HUGE bowl of soup. He calls the waitress over and asks her what this was, and she said that they didn't have shrimp "soup" on the menu but the cook made it since that is what he ordered. He said he thought she knew Spanish since she didn't say anything, in which she admitted she didn't. He corrected her and she gladly went back to the kitchen to get his order in for the shrimp cocktail. No big deal, kind of inconvenient as i was already eating my dinner and we had other plans that night. As my husband is eating the cocktail he realizes he is having a hard time swallowing. He thought it was maybe a cilantro stem. Come to find out it was a rubber band they didn't take off the cilantro bunch. After that our dinner was ruined. The manager gladly paid for my husband's meal but after almost choking on a rubber band well that kind of ruined his appetite.

We ha vent been back to La Mina since.

T-Bones Steak House

I just had the best chicken fried steak I have ever had! My friends were in love with their rib eyes, but I do not remember having a better chicken fried steak in my life! It had the perfect crunch to it, never was the batter a soggy piece of wet flour on the bottom of my plate.

I have generally been disappointed with chicken fried steak in Bakersfield, but it will be a long time until I try another. I know this sounds like a BS attempt or something, but go in and see if you are not happy.

Frugatti's Italian Eatery

Definitely a MUST VISIT on all future trips back home to Bakersfield.

We have always LOVED Frugatti's! We've been going there since they opened. My husband and I were born and raised in Bakersfield and moved our family to Southern Oregon 6 years ago. We soooooo miss Frugatti's. One of our fav's is the garlic chicken calzone. My husband has tried to re-create this for so many years. Hasn't happened! It's fantastic! Definitely 2-3 meals by itself!!! If you order it, be really bad and get it deluxe (with alfredo and freshly grated parmessan on top). That's a must! We also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the creamy garlic salad dressing (house dressing). Just thinking of it makes my mouth water. Be sure to grab a peppermint on the way out if you get it!

RALPH if you're reading this, I'm the one that called you from Oregon and begged you to bottle this and sell it!! You and I were going to put our heads together and see if it could be frozen to take back to Oregon. I skipped that and just bought a ton of it and took it home last trip down here. IT LASTED FOREVER!! I also took a few calzones (in ice chest) to share with friends in Oregon!!) I also begged you to move the family to Oregon and open up a restaurant in Medford. They'd go nuts for it there!! You said you thought Oregon was beautiful but Bakersfield is where your heart is. UGH!! I tried!! For now, when we want Italian we'll make do with the Bella Union ("The Bella"). A family owned italian restaurant in Jacksonville, Oregon YUM!!!

The fettucini alfredo...... OMG!! I'm pretty picky about a good alfredo sauce. Theirs is great!! I got that and a house salad this week but the salad was HUGE!! I may have ordered wrong and maybe should have asked for a side salad??

The bread rolls (made fresh in house) are fantastic and great dipped in creamy garlic salad dressing (yes, I'm really bad!).

My youngest (now 8) usually gets the spaghetti with meat sauce and really likes it. Our oldest (now 10) has graduated from that to the fettucini alfredo. As a matter of fact as I type this, she's begging to go there now (on our way out of town!). Sorry, daddy says In-N-Out.

Fortunately, Frugatti's is one of the few locally owned restaurants that we love that hasn't drastically deteriorated. (Sinaloa's coming to mind here).

Ralph, stay true to your roots and don't ever change!! But, maybe come to Oregon?? Oh come on puuullllease!!! Love your food!!!

City Sandwich Co

No longer a must visit.

I remember this place as having great sandwiches. Not sure that I can say that with yesterday's visit. We ordered a hot pastrami and a hot turkey and had to look twice to find the meat. I do like the cabbage vs. lettuce. That's nice and makes them unique. I'm not a fan of the potato salad. Theirs had an overwhelming mustard taste. I prefer more mayo and less mustard. Just personal preference. Our order wasn't brought to our table like an earlier reviewer's was. They called our name from the counter for us to go get it. No big deal would just be a good way to go the extra mile for customer service if they really want to shine. We were kind of irritated as the owner or manager's child was there with her grandma. His little girl was adorable by the way. We were seated right next to the door and the grandmother went to a table outside that was positioned right next to the door and started smoking. The door was propped open. We're not into cigarette smoke ESPECIALLY when we're eating. My husband got up and closed the door. I must say this won't be a must visit on future trips back home (born and raised here, moved to Southern Oregon 6 years ago).

McDonald's

Located inside a great Walmart? That's sad for a pitty restaurant location.

Okay... people... don't go here. No, I mean it, don't. This place is as good as a monkey house of bananas.

I have been to great McDonalds locations! No really, I have been to ones so much better than this garbage of a store! For instance, did you know that some locations have video games inside? Put the service aside for now, just look at the entertainment! Mckee Dee home stores with a wide variety of things to do!

So what we got here is a monkey house of bananas with no video games located inside Walmart... oh just dandy!

And oh yeah, the video games inside Walmart don't count. Why? Well, because their controllers on them consoles have a tendency for breaking. With crowds of people, it can get a little hard to stay in one place while playing.

Service is always an issue for this place. The schmucks in hats have no taste of class within them, plus it takes forever to get ANYTHING. For example, if you order a caramel sundae, they will write your name down and get it for you 10 minutes later. Fortunately, I brought a book with me at the time. It was entitled "How to Use Common Sense for Dummies." I read it all the way through and discovered the problem: not everybody has it. What a disaster for society.

The product? Don't bother, they can't cook. Well, I'm sorry, but they cannot cook one patty right. I have heard from close friends of them getting sick in there. I believe it, because I see cooks behind the grills picking their noses and scratching their heads.

Oh yeah, and did I mention that it's in Walmart? That means no drive-thru! Not only that, but there is a fast and efficient Del Taco right outside, not to mention Tom's Famous Burgers. That's right, Tom's Famous Burgers, and with a drive-thru as well. They taste alot better than this McDonalds store's products, plus they ARE CHEAPER! So, what's the point of even coming here? If there are cheaper competitors with better tasting food outside of Walmart, then there is no point.

In conclusion, all I can recommend to my friends is to go elsewhere. If someone is about to walk in here, stop them. No no, PAY THEM to stay away! That is how serious this Very Mad Fast-Food Geek is!

Sinaloa

I can't believe people can truthfully say Sinaloa's has not changed! I'm 38 and ate at Sinaloa's frequently while growing up. I moved my family to Southern Oregon 6 years ago. At times I get very homesick for family owned businesses here (Sinaloa's, Hodel's, Pyrennes, Smith's Bakery, Frugatti's, Luigi's). I took my husband and 8 and 10 year old back tonight (practically dragging them in). I have the fondest memories of Sinaloa's from my childhood. It is DEFINITELY, without a doubt a different place now than it was then. I've heard the original owner passed away a few years ago. I'm sad to see that his restaurant has deteriorated so drastically under the new ownership.

Our total was $44.40. My husband's carne asada was $10.95. The meat had absolutely no seasoning on it and was dry and tough. Everyone's rice and beans were very bland and tasteless. His meal (and my daughter's small beef fajitas $9.95) came with sour cream and guacamole. The amount was that served from a melon baller scoop. The size you'd see for butter or sour cream for a baked potato at other restaurants. My 8 year old son ordered a cheese enchilada, rice and beans and was still hungry after dinner. IT WAS SERVED ON A BREAD PLATE!! I am not exaggerating here. The meals that used to be served on medium sized platter style plates are now served on very small dinner plates (as also noted by another reviewer below). I have always loved, loved, loved the pyrennes bread, butter and salsa (and frequently serve this at home!). My son is used to chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants so he ordered a bowl of chips (no extra charge) and received a bowl of cold chips that I would bet my life were from a bag. They were terrible. I've had bagged tortilla chips that were better. When we were ordering our drinks the menu listed small and large sizes for soft drinks ($2 and $3). I asked if both sizes included free refills (as almost all sit down restaurants do) and the waitress said yes. Obviously I ordered the small. I felt that was a good way to bring in some extra $$ by letting the customer think there was a benefit to ordering a larger size. I wouldn't have known about the refills had I not asked. I think the single item combo meal I ordered was $9 something. I got the cheese enchilada, rice and beans. I used to love their enchiladas, WHAT HAPPENED???

When we walked in and saw the Health Dept (?) score card with a B on it, I got a little worried. B isn't bad however everywhere we've eaten over the last few days had A's.

That neon sign that someone else said they liked was 1/2 burned out when we visited tonight. I will say our young waitress tonight was nice enough (barely) I don't think she went overboard with the friendliness. I seem to remember the waitresses being friendlier in the past but could be wrong about that.

In this day and age it would also be nice if they'd get rid of the cigarette vending machine by the cash register that has been there since the 70's!

As I said above, It saddens me to see a person's wonderful restaurant ruined by new owners after his passing. If it is truly possible to roll over in one's grave, I'm sure he is.

No matter how fond your memories of Sinaloa's are, don't go back! It is not the same and you will truly be disappointed. Wish I'd have believed the reviews I read here earlier today and went somewhere else for dinner.

Wienerschnitzel

Since moving here, I have been able to see new sights. The store came to my view and I was very interested.

Viewers might be wondering, "Well, why would this fast-food place be different from others?" Curiosity is good to have! Well, this location is different just with one thing: chili dogs.

How many places has you been to that has served chili dogs? Not that many really. There are places here and there, but they aren't really fast-food. This Wienershitzel location, however, begs to differ.

So like I have said, they severe chili dogs, other hot dog types, sodas (fine, soft drinks! Whatever!), fries, and desserts.

Most of their food here is pretty good I must say! They have an excellent dessert menu especially. The "Tastee Freeze" menu offers cones, blizzards, and sundaes. Each one tastes alright!

The atmosphere is limited, but in a good way. Have you ever gone in a place that was too spacious? Some McDonalds locations are like 10 acres wide inside. Geesh, is this big enough? All I want is service with friendly people! Because of that, this place being small is rather great, just don't bring 30 people with you.

The drive-thru is also good. Cars fly by at fast speed. This is an example of a perfect speed time for pick up. The Carl's Jr. and McDonalds nearby are very, VERY slow. No, I am not jerking folks! It took them 10 minutes just to make my chocolate shake! Fortunately, this restaurant does not fail at speed at all.

Friendly service as well! However, sometimes I will come in and see an employee get all upset at something and leave the restaurant. Doesn't matter me really, but sometimes I wonder, "Uh, is he okay?" XD But the service itself is very nice here with friendly smiles.

As Arnold Schwarzenegger said in Terminator: "I'll be back!"

Serenity Salon & Tanning

I was really excited to finally be able to
go to an "upscale" salon to get my hair done.
I went to my appointment at the scheduled time and
was greated by no one. I thought they were closed!
Finally a girl came from a side door and I told her
I had an appointment. She retreated again, came back
shortly and waited on someone else that had come in.
I stood there, awkwardly a few moments, and asked if
she had told my stylist that I had arrived. She simply
stated "yes, she knows you are here". I stood around
a little while longer and then decided to find somewhere
to sit. (The Front desk person never indicated that
there was a waiting area around the corner.) I sat down,
waited some more, then my stylist finally peeked around
said she was ready for me. Great...

I told her that I wanted color etc that went fine. She never offered me a book, coffee, nothing while I was being
worked on. She basically just slapped the color on me, getting it on my face and ears, then wrapped the mess around my neck and again, left, not offering a magazine,
nothing. The towel was wet, and my hair just fell out of it. When I tried to fix it, one of the other stylists shouted out "your client needs attention" loudly to my sheer embarrassment.

This is not my idea of an upscale salon in any way shape or form. If you want to toss out some money for shoddy service go here. By the way they charged me $100 instead of the $80 I was quoted.

The store is located off of Rosedale near Shell gas station n' deli. With plenty of stores to walk in after a meal, there is much to do and yet so little time. Well hey, what can I say? It's Thanksgiving Day kitties! Gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble!

I have been to this store not once, but several times. This store is great! I will explain why:

Unfortunately there is no children playground, but the inside is so wide that one could bring several people inside for a group gathering.

KFC sells chicken, sides, and desserts through their excellent service at front counter. Sometimes it may take a while to get your order ready; however, they write your name down so that they can keep track of their customers.

Soda fountain with refills, huge seats, good food, what more could anyone ever ask for? In addition to that, they are more than willing to make up if the order went wrong.

One time I went into drive-thru and was dissatisfied with my food. Somehow the chicken did not taste right. I called them (yes, the actual store), explained the situation, and was given free food coupons in the mail.

This, my friends, is service. The service given at places like Hageman's Taco Bell or Coffee's Carl's Jr. is a joke. Those places always frown at you, even when you give them $$$ for service. In addition to that, they have an attitude if my food is wrong?!

Hey, I am paying you to serve me! Come on, I am in a hurry here! [edit.] Grrrrr! X(

This KFC location, however, does care for its customers. That is the kind of motive a guy like me desires.

Taco Bell

You know what? I agree with adog262 on this one you guys. I myself have worked in the fast food industry for 3 years, and this restaurant is a joke.

89 cents for one taco? Well, it isn't the fact that I have to pay that that bothers me. What bothers me is when I go in a place and their food is all ice man.

Their drive-thru moves way to slow. I am in a hurry here, I have no time for games. If it takes this long, I'll go to Jack in the Box and have their tacos. They cook them well done, and I can get 2 for 99 cents.

I know guys, it is hard to rate restaurants sometimes, but when someone is on a budget and has to work for a living... I don't know, I can't help but be picky of where I wish to swing by.

Go to Jack in the Box or Checkers for sure, but don't bother with this location. :(

Taco Bell

Taco Bell rules. They have a very large customer base that continue to return. They must be doing something right if Paris, Britney, and myself eat there. See you at the Bakersfield downtown Taco Bell sometime, and don't mind me as I eat my 89c burritto. Hey we could even make it a date!

It is Taco Bell, I don't feel I got ripped paying under a dollar for a meat and simulated cheese burrito. It is Taco Bell.

Little White Dress

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Little White Dress. The owner was so helpful and accomodating to all of my needs. She went above and beyond to track down colors and styles for my bridesmaid dresses. I found the perfect wedding dress! All of the gowns are incredibly gorgeous! All my life I have dreamt of choosing my wedding dress. I am so happy that my mom and I had a better time than we could have ever imagined. We have memories that we will cherish for our lifetime...all thanks to Little White Dress.

Tom's Famous Burgers

This is a great place to take your friends! The burgers are excellent, the fries are crisp, and the soda tastes fresh! And what's the best part? Fairly priced food!

Now, as my followers might have seen in my other reviews, I never call food products of any restaurant or fast food joint "cheap." No product from a business owner is cheap.

For instance, would you think that 89 cents for 1 taco at Taco Bell is cheap? If you would, then you are dead wrong! 89 cents is a rip-off, especially when coming from that ugly, horrible store off Hageman and Coffee. I can get 18 taco shells at Winco for $2, and extra $2 for meat and lettuce, totaling $4. Which is cheap: $4 for 18 tacos made in your own style or 89 cents for 1 tiny taco made by a schmuck in a hat? Yeah, I think I'll pick the 18 taco deal! XD

But anyways, back to my review. The food here is delicious. Most of everything here is made right, just for you. "You are our customer, you are our friend, you are our saviour." Leave them a tip, anyone can do it! If a quarter pound burger costs under $2.50 with tax here, then why would you be stingy? A Whopper at Burger King costs $3.19, not including tax! And if a Whopper is 1/4 lb. just like this burger in my hand, then why would you not leave a tip for these wonderful crew members here at Tom's Famous Burgers?

Service here is pretty good! I will say this though, while it is great, it isn't authentic. Think of this place as what Carl's Jr. used to be, except much better. You order up at the counter, and then they bring your food to your table. Because of this alone, and of how much better the atmosphere and food is, please don't forget to leave a tip! Even a small tip works. Whenever I go, I take change out of my pocket and put it in the jar.

Not all the food is great here, I will be honest on that. For example, while the pastrami sandwich is pretty good, I have had much better pastrami sandwiches in Jewish delis. It is usually best just to order what a place is good at. Remember, it is "Tom's Famous Burgers," not "Tom's Famous Pastrami Sandwiches."

I am not attacking them because of that though. Variety helps bring customers in. What is up with these old farts who still go on and on about IN-N-OUT and Original Tommy's? Why are they so overrated? I will tell you what I think of IN-N-OUT and Original Tommy's! I think that these 2 places suck! They have no food variety, no class, and no service, period, end of story!

(Must calm down... huh... huh...)

There is a drive-thru here at Tom's also. That's right, they have it! The speed is quick, plus the food comes hot and fresh. So dump your habit of eating at places with poor customer service, such as the McDonalds and Carl's Jr. on Coffee and Rosedale. Those places don't care if they rip you off. At Tom's, however, they care for your every need! And that's a good thing! :)

In my summary of this review, I conclude this: eat here if you have not done so yet. Everything is perfect here, you will not be disappointed. :)

Burger King

No, let me, the expert of Burger King, go over this in more detail. While most of you out there probably don't care about fast food stores much, all of us expect three things: good location, good food, good service.

Location= bad. None of us can really see the store. Would you guess to check behind a paper store and a shut down mexican restaurant? If yes, then you are a liar. And why is the children playground located outside the store? That makes no sense! What if it rains? What if it is windy? What if it was evening with darkness all around? You see the problem!

Food= bad. I eat Burger King, I freakin' know Burger King, thus I am the God of Burger King. The food here is made all wrong, plus they are cold. And don't worry, they microwaved your sandwhich for you. Did I miss something?

Service=bad. It is bad because it is disorganized. Why can a reviewer comment on something like that? You know, when things are different every time someone comes in? Sometimes they were good, sometimes they were bad. It tells me this: that no one behind that counter cares about their customers. They want you to leave, and they will show that to you by giving bad service.

In conclusion, don't eat here. Save your money and go somewhere else like, I don't know, a different Burger King. :(

Taco Bell

This restaurant stinks by all standards, even the food is bad.

Just look at this place, no children playground? What does that tell you about the owners? Do they even like children? What a shame! It would have been nice if they created something personal!

Why would we think about a children's playground? Well, it isn't that it is required, but it is that Bakersfield has a varied weather pattern. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's windy, sometimes it snows, etc. Therefore, parents out there may want to go to a place that has a park inside. Fortunately though, there are many places around here that do, but this one doesn't.

There is a Burger King across the street with a playground. There's a playground inside Del Taco at Rosedale and Coffee. How come this place doesn't? Just off that, location is quite a failure. Dang nang duty!

The only reason there is a Taco Bell here is because someone built it. All someone needs to do to build a location is to have a permit from the corporation. From there, they do everything themselves.

Remember folks, there are thousands of Taco Bells around the world, and most of them would beat the heck out of this place. No playground, cold food, expensive prices. I'll go to Del Taco on Rosedale for cheaper tacos, plus they actually have a children's playground. Or, I can always just find a different Taco Bell.

Taco Bell is a corporation of tex-mex type food. While offering tacos and burritos to customers, they still are not cheap. Why? Well, because Taco Bell is usually good. Forget the bad locations, the good locations make very authentic meals, especially compared to some other places.

So, at this location of no playground and slow drive-thru, a taco is still for 89 cents. Uh, what? Customers pay that much? Way too expensive, especially for this store!

89 cents for 1 stinkin' little taco is ridiculous for this kind of service that we get! Not only is the service horrible, the prices are too expensive!

89 cents... right! I can go to Winco and get 18 taco shells for 2 bucks. That's right, 2 dollars for 18 taco shells. Just add the meat and lettuce and you pay an extra 2 dollars. 4 dollars for 18 tacos sounds waaaaaay better than 1 taco for 89 cents.

As a result of the prices, which are nowhere near inexpensive, there is a need to be selective of which store in town serves you best. It's like finding the best supermarket, you know? Find the location that best suits your every need. It won't always be near work; however, it doesn't have to be. Travel, go around and explore! You will be amazed!

And, just to shut down my opponents who may want to argue with me, let me bring another example into view. McDonalds sells double cheeseburgers at $1 dollar each. Now THAT is a good deal!

Winco, which is one of the cheapest markets in kern county, sells beef patties. Weight-wise, their double cheeseburger, with bread and cheese included, would total about 75 cents each. So, with this in mind, it sounds like McDonalds cares for its customers more just through their prices than Taco Bell. Some McDonalds locations have horrible service, but I would rather pay $1 for the huge double cheeseburger than to pay 89 cents for one, tiny, cold taco.

Speed? How is the speed at this particular Taco Bell? Forget it, there is none. They are so slow here that you might as well bring a book to read. Why? Because "the computer doesn't work." Well, who cares? WRITE down my order, you freakin' idiot!

This place ticks me off. It makes me want to vomit just to see other humans get ripped off by these monsters. Taco Bell corporation released their products into supermarkets because they knew that they had some bad stores, that is for sure. Makes it all the more convenient too. :)

Let me explain: one can get their refried beans for 89 cents in a can. So, which would you pay for: 1 bean burrito for 99 cents or 89 cents for one can of refried beans that makes 4 burritos? In simple words, 99 cents for 1 or 89 cents for 4? Yeah... I think I'll do 4.

Taco Bell corporation itself does not run their stores. Running them is up to individual owners, not the company. All the company does is ship the ingredients and make money of stock, that's it. They don't even make new products, that too is up to individual stores.

I know, I know. Some of you really wish to argue with me. You wish to defend your own error of eating here. Well, I guess all I can say is... sorry. I am sorry you do not agree.

Drive-thru sucks as well. I cannot get one thing without worrying about getting something messed up. What a load of poop! Not only that, the food comes cold as ice. I tell you my friends, I make better mexican food than these hombres!

Poor service, bad food, slow times, eyc. I give this store a -2/10. Don't eat here, get better food elsewhere. ;)

Buck Owens Crystal Palace

Always take in the Crystal Palace everytime I'm in Bakersfield and have been since 2002. Have NEVER had a bad experience there, have never had to wait (even without a reservation) and the food is always great. Highly recommended for any visitor to Bakersfield. The food is great, the museum is always nice to take in, the staff is great and there's always sometime of entertainment in the evenings which is always nice. Look forward to my next trip!

The new owners have done a Great job in renovation with new floors, painting, decoration, 6 new plasma TVs, new video games, Menu and more. The Pizza & food quality and service is far BETTER than before. Recommend it for family & sports fans.

Ladies and Gents Bridal

I wear a size 10 at Banana Republic and my dress was ordered a size 18. I don't care about the number at all, that does not matter. I care if it fits. My dress arrived so large I had to spend $ to have it fit to me. When I complained I was told I don't understand how the system works. My sister in law bought the same dress, our measurements are ONE inch apart and she was ordered a size 14. On top of it all I was charged for being plus size. I have two daughters who will not be getting their dresses through Ladies and Gents.

Desi Cafe

A friend and I had the lunch buffet a couple weeks ago and in her words the best Indian in Bakersfield. An adventurous eater I'm not but, I thought it was really good too.

I tried and liked the Tandoori chicken, chicken Makhni (in sauce with fresh cream amd tomatoes), Daal Makhni (a spicey lentil dish), Saag Paneer (mix of cheese and fresh spinach), Bhindi Masala (fresh okra w/onions and tomatoes), saffron rice, onion bhaji (kinda like onion rings but not), I scooped some of the above with warm garlic naan bread and saved the plain naan to put honey on for desert. The dinning room is small, the workers are pleasant and the cooks are out in the open.

Had dinner last week there and enjoyed the feel of the place even more. I'll be making it back soon.

Azul

Azuls was a fun place to go out but it took FOREVER to get a drink and it wasn't even that busy. It seemed like the bartenders were too busy talking to other patrons. The dance floor was fun if you had a spot, otherwise I felt like I was packed in a can of sardines. :-(

Lusaak Pre Owned Motorsports

Had first experience 11/15/08 when I purchased a racing car tire for the rear of my Gold Wing. (after much debate and reservations) made the plunge and needed it mounted. Someone mentioned the Honda Dealership who not only refused but absolutely insulted me for it. I've been doing my home work and talking to other Wingers for the last year who have had over 30 thousand miles and over 3 years experience on them and love them. I went up the street to Lusaak's who asked me many questions with obvious concerns but could not see the reason why not when they did some investigation on their own. Not only the owner but the workers themselves got very involved and were interested. Just the prior week I had got a recommendation to stay away from our local Honda dealer for a full service, you know change all fluids, radiator, brake, clutch and drive line etc. so I got a quote from Delano, While I was in Lusaak's (tire issue) I decided to get a quote from them for my extensive service and they not only said they would do a few other things they thought it needed for free or at least cost while I was doing such a large service. I am having them check on a little known racing tire listed as a rear tire that is the same size as my front. They are enough lower than Delano that this would actually pay for my front tire if I decide to do it. All this was done by Kyle, not only with a very friendly attitude but was asking questions that I didn't even think of to ask. Making suggestions that would save me money in the long run. I'm scheduling my work for next week or two and will report back. If all goes as I expect, I will gladly pay a buck or two more or in this case less to have a personal relationship with someone who is touching something i love and needs to be taken care of with only two tires on the ground.

Maui Pho Fusion BBQ Grill

I'll admit that I have been a China Bistro fanatic for nearly a decade. I'm into the "cheap eats". Give me a lot of good taste for little money. Where else could I feed my family of five for $20.00 and close to home?

Well, I found a new favorite for my orange chicken fixation. Maui Pho (pronounced "fuh"), I like to call it M.P. This new location is a match to China Bistro on price, but wins the war on portion size, and taste. After you look over the menu and its many items and place your order with the smiling young lady behind the counter, you can sit down at a table or a cushioned couch and watch some television on their large flat screen TV. Hit the soda bar (pepsi products) for refills until the tasty food arrives at your table. The food does take a little longer than the China Bistro express line, but its worth the wait, as they are cooking it to order.

I've ordered the triple combo for all three of my visits, changing up the entree each time. My last visit, I ordered the teriyaki chicken (my 3rd favorite of the choices, great sauce and good pieces of meat), orange chicken (my favorite with the homemade orange sause recipe), and sweet & sour chicken (comes with green peppers, my 2nd favorite). My fourth favorite, but not ordered on my last visti, is the sweet & sour pork that comes with real pieces of pineapple in the sauce. I received a mound of each plus great tasting rice (with large pieces of egg, which I like, inside) and choimein. All of this arrived on a large, real plate (not styrofoam). My wife has tried the egg soup (HUGE bowl) which comes with some wonton sticks, potstickers, egg roles, and a few other dishes and has enjoyed them all. We were even treated to their salt/pepper shrimp. DELICIOUSLY flavored and large portions. Unlike other cheap Chinese places, every piece of chicken was edible and delicious. None of those "chew-forever" and spit into your napkin pieces at The M.P.

On each visit, we noticed the owners working in the back and coming out to say hello to some of the customers. Some of which seemed to be regulars due to the young lady behind the counter greeting them by name. Others who have been to The M.P. have recommended the Boba drinks. Guess I'll have to try those on my next visit.

M.P. has the taste of PF Changs, but the pricing of China Bistro and in between on the atosphere and decor. 2 triple combo meals and I can feed my family of five for $20.00 and be full at the end of the meal. You can't beat that in today's economy.

Give Maui Pho (M.P.) a shot when you're on Ming avenue doing some shopping. The place is located in the new Home Depot/Zody's shopping center) If you're a China Bistro fan, you may find yourself switching over to The M.P. I did!

I knocked off one star for their parking lot. If you don't own a Prius, parking is very tight.

I wanted my daughter's third birthday party to be very special so I decided to order a special cake for her from here. The cake was supposed to be a three tier cake with pink polka dots and they were supposed to re-create a princess crown that was printed on her invitations as the cake topper. I payed $250 for this cake! When we picked up her cake, I was very disappointed. The cake topper was nothing but a paper copy of her invitation! They made it stand up by putting a glob of white chocolate behind it! It was almost time for her party so I didn't have time to stay and talk to the owner about it. I took the cake to the party, and set it up. The bottom layer of the cake completely crumbled! This was even before the guests arrived. I had set up a special table because I wanted this cake to be showcased with lighting at the party. I ended up hiding the cake. We had to run to the supermarket and buy some white and pink frosting to try to fix the cake. The next day I went to show the owner some pictures and she said that she had not worked on the cake so she had no idea what happened. She promised me another cake for any othe ocassion free. Why would I want to go through that again? This place is definitely not worth your money!

T-Bones Steak House

Disappointing at best!! The steaks werent too bad....but certainly not worth the price!! We were there opening night and after finding "Made in China" and price tags on the bopttom of our plates and bowls, I asked the owner [edited by admin] if they had been washed. He assured (lied) me they had and that the "manufacturer recommeneded they not remove the tags as it would leave a residue on the bottom." (CLEARLY ANOTHER LIE) We were also served an appetizer platter of meat and cheese that had spolied GREEN meat and cheese on it. Again, the owner assured us that the platter had just been prepared and it was merely a "reaction" the meat and cheese was haveing with the plate itself. We will be sticking to Tahoe Joes and Outback. Too bad!! I was really hoping it would be good. Just as [edited by admin] Amigos failed.....Im afraid he will sadly fail here also!!!

Folks this is a warning and I cannot stress enough to "RUN and hide" from this organization. The following phrases come to mind: Unethical, unprofessional, and unscrupulous. These are the "good" things I can say about this firm and the people there. Don't take any chances with your loan approval and risk getting your credit damaged. I made the mistake of recomending my clients call for an pre approval for a purchase of their home. This organization promised the world and even offered some rather "questionable" methods.

Look for another organization to do your loan.

Dingy. Dirty. Dimly lit. Absolute dynamite! The store is jam-packed with used clothing, accessories, and home furnishings. Large fans blow from each corner. Dressing rooms are non-existent. And Saturdays are half-off everything.

I have a dollar in my pocket. Let's go shopping.

Uricchio's Trattoria

This was my first time to this place. It was recommended from the staff at Luigi's as an option because they only serve lunch. We found it looked real busy for a Tuesday night. The only thing I cared for was the appetizer of Calamari. I have tried 4 Italian eateries here in the last 12 months all sub par. I will say this has been the best service of the four though. All seem to have average food quality with average ingredients. Where can I find classic Italian fare in this town? Give me traditional osso bucco with risotto milanes not penne pasta or seaonal vegetables. How about a simple made to order risotto with mushrooms. Is there a restaurant that changes menus at least 4-5 times a year? And uses ingredients grown in the centrall valley?

Since my m-i-l is a wedding planner and had ordered many cakes here and had wonderful experiences, we decided to order a cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. The theme was Elmo and the lady said she would design a cake of Elmo holding a goldfish bowl and make crayons to put around the cake. It was going to look like those you see on tv. We were very excited with the proposed plan.

The day of the birthday party, the cake was dropped off to my f-i-l before the rest of us showed up at the party. He was given 5 dollars back because they didn't have time to make the crayons. I was very disappointed when I saw that the cake was nothing like we'd been told it would be. They delivered a flat cake and just airbrushed Elmo with the goldfish bowl. The cake was definitely not worth the $150 that was paid. My m-i-l got on the phone and called the owner right away. She said there must've been some miscommunication about the design of the cake and promised a refund for half the price. She was the one who designed the cake so I dont' know what the miscommunication was. We left the cake on the cake table and continued to enjoy the party. About 3 hours after the cake was dropped off, we sliced it to serve it. It was frozen! It was absolutely the worst cake ever. This year, we went with a Costco cake and it was way better.

I would never recommend this place to anyone. Suffice to say: my m-i-l no longer uses them for her business.

Casa Munoz

Casa Munoz is one of the finest Mexican restaurants in town. My family has been regular customers every since they opened. The staff is very friendly and proficient. The food quality and taste is always consistent. The Munoz family are very community connected and always make you feel welcome and like family. The prices are good for the amount of food you get. The margaritas are exceptional and always a bargain on weekends. We love to take out of town family and friends there to eat and we like to introduce Casa Munoz to new friends who have never had the opportunity to eat there. It always becomes their favorite Mexican restaurant as well. I highly reccommened this restaurant to anyone looking for good mexican food at reasonable prices. Paula Bertolucci

This thrift store is so clean and bright, it literally sparkles! Quite a rare thing to find at a thrift store.

They have the store completely organized not only by the standard type of garment, but also by size, which I have never seen at a thrift or consignment store. It makes for fast shopping, but really takes away from that thrift store thrill of the hunt feeling. The selection is limited, but they have overall a higher quality of item than most thrift stores as well. Their great "boutique" section with their nicer, brand name items. The asking prices are very reasonable.

Sub-Station Stockdale

I love Sub Station! I've only gone to the Stockdale location, mostly because I've been going there since High School. Now my Mom and husband are fans too. it's one of the best sandwich shops in Bakersfield, and I've been going there since they opened! My favorite is the #9 cold (Roast Beef and Turkey). Yum, so good! Everything always tastes fresh. Honestly, I've never had a problem with service, and I can see that they hire students, but I'd love it there even if I had to make the food myself, because it's that good. It's a walk up counter, what are people expecting, service like a four star restaurant? I try to stop in whenever I'm back in town visiting, I live in LA now, and wish there was Sub Station there!.

Smith's Bakeries

Smith's is the best bakery anywhere! I try to stop in anytime I'm here visiting my Mom! I was raised in Bakersfield and have traveled quite a bit, nothing I've tried comes close in the USA. Smith's is a regional TREASURE, and it's because their products are consistently delicious. My husband, who is a more recent convert, agrees. Our favorites are the Thumbprint cookies, the Brownies, the Halloween Jack-O-Lantern cookies (and Seasonal decorated), and the Dutch Crunch Bread! That's the four basic food groups right there! And they make the best birthday cakes, beautifully decorated! It's something I still look forward to every year!

Kakes By Karen

Kakes by Karen is the local Gold Standard for wedding cakes and special occasion baked goods. She did our wedding cake 12 years ago, and it was nothing short of breathtaking. Oh, and it was the best tasting wedding cake I've ever had, still. We order a small cake from her every year to celebrate our anniversary. It's that good!

Creative, beautiful results, and actually delicious to eat - what more could you want from a wedding cake or other special occasion? Besides reasonable prices, of course, which she definitely has. The cake was the ONLY thing under budget in my whole wedding! But it sure didn't look or taste under budget!
