Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the picture of the people's politician last week as he vetoed the latest gay marriage bill. After all, he said, California voters spoke loud and clear on the gay marriage issue five years ago when they approved a ballot measure recognizing marriage as between a man and a woman. He then went on to sign a cluster of bills that will, among other things, make it mandatory for public schools to incorporate curriculum that promotes homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality and financially penalizes state-funded programs and even some private organizations that don't. Maybe we voters should have spoken a little louder when we had the chance. Schwarzenegger appeared to have a handle on the issue last year when he vetoed a similar set of bills, saying at the time it wasn't the Legislature's job to micromanage curriculum.
