A former, powerful Kern County department head has gone missing, just as the Board of Supervisors and state officials want to question him about his use of taxpayers’ dollars. Last week, Kern County supervisors directed their attorneys and staff to play a twisted version of “Where’s Waldo” — find former Public Health Director B.A. Jinadu and make him pay back $2,325 of the county money he spent on international cell phone calls, mostly to Africa. Jinadu was born and raised in Nigeria. Jinadu’s failure to reimburse the county for those calls was just one of many questionable findings in an audit conducted of the Health Department after Jinadu quit last summer.
