Bakersfield City School District announced Monday it doesn't have to lay off certificated staff. It's planning for attrition to make room for 75 relocations within the district. Kern High School District, however, will be making decisions by Wednesday on which 33 high school teachers will get a pink slip. It's also cutting all five teachers at the Lerdo Jail education program. Fruitvale School District will meet Tuesday, but the Superintendent, Carl Olsen said the district will recommend notifying six certificated staff layoffs and 15 classified. Rosedale Union School District last week said it would cut 20 certificated jobs. More cuts could come next month for classified staff as boards make decisions on those staffing levels. Districts will be watching out for the May revision of the state budget to get another glance at the outlook for education.
