A story recently moved on our wires about the tactic of driving a few miles per hour slower to save on gas. Here's an excerpt from the story. "Researchers say today’s cars are most fuel efficient at speeds between around 30 and 60 mph, and mileage drops sharply at speeds above 65 as engines work harder to overcome wind resistance that rises exponentially. If drivers were forced to slow down — and lower speed limits were enforced — the thirst for fuel could be significantly reduced, which could ease prices." (read the whole story here) The story doesn't go into whether racing (not literally) from light to light uses more gas than cruising along at a sensible speed, but I imagine it does. I'm also pretty sure that Bakersfield drivers aren't likely to lower their speeds in an attempt to use less gas. But I might be wrong. — Andrew Mockett
