For Immediate Release: In order to remind citizens not to drink and drive over the holidays, the Delano Police Department will be conducting a " Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint," during the evening hours on Saturday July 5th 2008, weather permitting from the hours 1800-2400. Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see informational signs advising them of the impending checkpoint ahead. Once stopped by an officer, motorists will be detained for a few moments while the purpose of the checkpoint is explained, and drivers license's are checked. If traffic volume permits, all vehicles will be screened. If traffic volume is to heavy or congested, vehicles to be screened will be selected by a pre-set standard, such as every other vehicle, or every third vehicle, ect. This is to assure objectivity. All drivers that are found to be unlicensed will be cited and their vehicle will be impounded. Please Don't Drink and Drive. Sgt. Donald "Charlie" Flores ...
