It's hard to find good help. Sheriff Donny Youngblood found that out after discovering a part-time "extra help" employee was allegedly involved in the theft of 20 handguns from the sheriff's department's property room. Edgard Leon Nava now faces felony charges including 19 counts of grand theft of a gun. In 2005, the Delano Police Department experienced a similar situation when a property/evidence officer was charged with grand theft and embezzlement after being accused of taking $20,000 from the police department. The property officer, Sylvia Pimentel, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and receiving stolen property. The embezzlement charge was dismissed.
