When I called Russell Johnson yesterday to ask if he was going to apply for his Planning Commission seat — you know, the one Councilman Ken Weir tried to kick him off last year, sparking an event that should have been known as the PlanningCommissionpocalypse (or maybe PlanningCommmissiongeddon) — I expected him to laugh and then say no.
He did neither.
I could envision a scenario in which Murray Tragish chose not to pursue a term, and then Harold Hanson chose to appoint Johnson. But Tragish has reapplied, and while I haven't asked Hanson, I would wager a small amount of money that Hanson will reappoint Tragish.
I would also wager a large amount of money that Weir will not appoint Johnson.
I e-mailed Weir late last week to ask whether he's soliciting applications, as opposed to just picking someone from the stack of those who apply of their own volition. He didn't directly answer the question, saying only that he's had a couple of inquiries and referred them to the...
