In a move that speaks volumes, the Condors have added collegiate goaltender Jared Kaufmann to their roster.
Kaufmann, 24, just completed his fourth year of play at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he was 9-10-3 for the Mavericks with a 2.31 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.
Kaufmann signed with the Condors on Monday and was placed on 3-day IR. He will be eligible to be activated on Thursday.
Kuafmann’s signing likely means two things: One, the Condors are looking toward the future; and two, there is little confidence in David McKee, who is assigned to the team by the Iowa Chops of the American Hockey League but is clearly in a back-up role to Yutaka Fukufuji.
The Condors have battled back into playoff contention with a 16-4-1 mark over their last 21 games with Fukufuji going 12-2 (2.85 goals-against average, .910 save percentage) during the run while McKee is 4-2-1 (4.17 GAA and .863 save percentage).
