The smooth-yet-subtexty council meeting ended later than expected, mostly due to a long closed session.
Most interesting was the lack of fireworks over two items: Weir's planning commission pick and the hillside ordinance EIR.
Maybe it's fitting or symbolic or (fill in the blank) that both were on the same agenda and both wrapped up with little ado, at least publicly.
After all, they share the same Canyons/Maggard/Weir/Abernathy/Downs/etc backstory.
That chapter is just about over. The Canyons EIR has yet to get the council's OK, but it sailed through the planning commission without a stir.
A few fun items popped up during council comments:
• Sue Benham asked staffers for action and follow-up on a letter sent by school kids to public works director Raul Rojas A YEAR AGO (and apparently never answered).
The kids' request eventually made its way to I'll-take-care-of-that Supervisor Michael Rubio (whose office is taking care of it). I didn't catch everything, but...
