The size of proposed twin high-rise towers near Cal State Bakersfield is being scaled down, developer Carl Cole announced. And the original idea for a Nordstrom is being replaced with smaller retailers such as Coach and J.Crew, he said. When first proposed in January, Cole talked about 31-story towers, but now he's looking at 24 stories — still 50 percent taller than Stockdale Towers. The towers would house 500 condominiums ranging from 700 to more than 3,000 square feet. Hilton Hotels is interested in its own facility with a convention center at the site just west of Scarlet Oak and Camino Media. Do you think this is a good idea for southwest Bakersfield?
